"Buyer BEWARE! Techondigital. The web price seemed too good to be true. After placing an online order, I was instructed to call w/in 24 hours to confirm order. I was then pressured to buy the "better battery" at up to $200 since the standard only lasted "20 minutes". When I asked about the included AC cord, I was told that would burn up the camera if I used it. After still declining, I was offered the extended warranty at up to $200. (I was amazed how quickly the prices on these extras dropped) After still refusing, I was then told that my camcorder was "gray market" and came with no warranty. I questioned this and why nothing like this was stated on their website. They then suggested that I could cancel the order if I was not happy, which I did.
This was NOT a pleasant experience!
Be warned, DO NOT attempt to make a purchase from Techondigital UNLESS you are prepared to spend literally hundreds of dollars on extras of unnecessary items and warranties!"
"Needless to say, it is always the same scam. Ordered a Sony DSC-T70. Called to confirm and knew the scam right away. I did not buy the upgrades. I got off the phone and told my wife we will never see that camera. Sure enough, order cancelled the next day. This fake company was TECHONdigital.com, but there are many others."
"I had exactly the same experience already described here in RR: I found their very low price on EveryPrice., read their great reviews, ordered the camera (Panasonic TZ3). First got an acknowledgement email. 2 days later got an email, "Please call james from our order confirmation department at ext: 201 to confirm your order at ***-***-****". James tried to sell me a way over priced SD card I said no thanks camera only. Then I got the cancellation email: "Due to the product you ordered being out of stock for 6-8 weeks from today's date. We regret to inform you that the order is canceled due to the product being on backorder. when or if we get the product again in stock soon will send you an email to place an order please do not resubmit your order again . sorry again and thanks for your understanding." I immediately checked their site. The camera was still listed as available.
"
"Like everyone else, I too experienced this company's bait and switch-type tactics. I ordered a Canon G9, as have others, had the phone call trying to sell me an SD card and spare battery. When I told them I already had both, they said okay, the order is confirmed. Then I too received the cancellation email. I emailed back telling them that this reeked of bait and switch. I checked today and the G9 is still listed as available. I think I'll call them back and ream them out via phone."
"Gee, same as everyone else! I just found this site after I got an email that they were "out of stock"! I tried to order a Pentax W30 Camera, got the email to call to confirm, did that. Was also given the same treatment, tried to get me to buy a battery and memory card! I told him I already had SD cards, just wanted the camera! He told me the camera was not under warrenty because I would have to send it to Japan for repairs. I said no problem, and he was rude and hung up on me. About 2 hours later I get an email that it is out of stock and they have cancelled my order. If that was true, he would of told me that when I was speaking to him and he was trying to get me to buy the extra things. Wish I had looked here first. Scums."
"Placed an online order for a Canon G9 from TECHON Digital,TECHONdigital.com. Received a confirmation email and then got a call from 'sales' to 'confirm' my order. The sales person tried to sell me additional items. He did not want to answer any questions about the add-ons (seemed very overpriced). When I said I just wanted the G9 as advertised and nothing else, he said 'OK, if you don't want anything I'll just cancel your order' and then hung up! My credit card was not billed and I received a 'cancellation' notice via email.
This outfit does not honor its advertised price and I felt scammed. I will NEVER buy anything from TECHONDigital and recommend you run from them and their site! "
"Pretty much the same thing that happened to everyone else happened to me. Tried to purchase an Olympus sp-560-uz for the unbelieveable price of $279.00 (red flag...yeah, now I know). They told me to call them to confirm the order, at which point an utter jerk tried to hard sell me memory cards and batteries. Then he tried to sell me the warranty, since I was getting a Japanese camera...or I could spend a lot more for the U.S. version (he said it was in the description, it wasn't; I told him it was supposed to have a year warranty, he disputed it). I ended the call, talked with my wife, and called back to cancel the order. The next guy was the rudest man with whom I've ever spoken who was trying to sell me something. He congratulated me on being so stupid to pass up such a great deal. Go ahead and tell everyone I know not to buy from them, he didn't care. And so I am. I got a cancellation confirmation email, luckily. Anyone who says they had a great experience with them ("they're just rough-around-the-edges guys from Brooklyn" "it did mention grey market") is (in my opinion) a liar who is on their payroll. Oh yeah, and that one person was right about the grey market items being listed in the return policy. Anyway, VERY FISHY & SHADY, TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS. [I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and recommend you all do the same]"
"I purchased a camera for an online price of $209 on Saturday evening. The confirmation email requested I confirm the order which I was unable to do until the Sunday as they were closed Saturday. I thought it a bit odd but went along with the idea that they were just being certain that the order was genuine. To my surprise they called me and pushed a really hard sales for accessories which I had no intention of buying having seen the prices they wanted on the web site. The bombshell was dropped when they offered a warranty since the online offer was a 'grey model' There was no mention of this on the website. I was almost speechless and should have told them to cancel the order but since I had just recovered from having my last c.c. compromised and all that entailed I felt extremely vulnerable and agreed to pay more ($84) for the USA version, which was $40 more than Amazon.com. The camera did arrive with all the extras but it was a very unpleasant and nerve racking experience. I have been trading online for years and for some stupid reason did not do a Reseller check on this bunch of cowboys. WILL NEVER ORDER from these people again and will stick with Amazon.com whom have always been wonderful.
ALWAYS CHECK > www.resellerratings.com before you purchse online. Very scary transaction "
"BUYERS BEWARE!
www.TechonDigital.com and www.TheDigitalNerds.com are FRAUD!
DON"T BUY FROM TECHONDigital.com or TheDigitalNerds.com FRAUD!
I just filed a serious complaint with the BBB about TECHON Digital ( www.TECHONDigital.com ), and The Digital Nerds ( www.TheDigitalNerds.com) about their unethical and illegal tactics of offering low priced items without fulfilling orders unless they throw in extremely high priced accessories (Their high pressure telemarketers will call you and try to sell you accessories before they even think of mailing it to you.... They'll find some reason not to send it to you if you don't by any accessories.)
On Jan. 02, 2008 I ordered a (JVC Everio GZ-MG555 5MP 30GB Hard Disk Drive Camcorder) from www.TECHONDigital.com . $389 for the camcorder and $14.90 shipping. Full price:$403.90 Order ID: 910***. The site said it would be shipped out in three days. Today, Jan. 3, 2008, I received a phone call from TECHON Digital trying to sell me many accessories. During our conversation the sales associate offered me a "US version of the camcorder I ordered." I was confused. The English only site and description page doesn't say anything about the camcorder not being English: http://www.techondigital.com/product.asp?productid=GZMG555 The associate (James: ***-***-**** ext 201) told me that the camcorder I ordered and they were sending me is a "grey market" item. I told James that it doesn't or never stated grey market, which I never heard before, anywhere in the item description, on the website, or during the transactions, emails, or receipt. James told me the camcorder and instructions I ordered would be in Japanese. I was confused. There entire website is in English. James told me that the "hidden" policy is on their policy page. I looked over the entire website, all my transactions, all emails and couldn't find anything that stated my ordered camcorder would not be in English or the words grey market. After searching awhile, I found the words grey market hidden in their "Return Policy", not their Store Policy. James became very rude and hung up and canceled my order. What kind of scam are they running. I have copies of my order and their policy page with the words grey market only hidden in their return policy online. I even talked with management and another associate. All were rude. It was like they had this grey market conversation rehearsed.
They are using an unethical, misleading, and hidden policy to reach customers they wouldn't normally reach by listing grey market prices under all their items. TECHON Digital's management even told me they weren't an English company to attempt to avoid my reasonable arguments. I found them, via you, to be a New Jersey based company. Although my order is canceled without my permission, I still want to pay for what I ordered: http://www.techondigital.com/product.asp?productid=GZMG555. I am extremely angry with this company and its illegal and misleading way of selling merchandise. I gave them my personal contact and financial information to receive an English item as described. If anyone buys the same camcorder I did, they'll be just as angry. Please tell me what I can do.

"Cons: SCAM! Very rude on phone. Blatantly lied about product description. Tried to force purchase of ridiculously overpriced extras. When i didnt fall for it they said camera was out of stock.
Pros: They dont appear to be involved in credit card fraud."
"Well, this IS the stupidest thing I've ever done for the year of 2007! The TechonDigital has the lowest price and availability for one digital camera, then I placed my order of course without any super-expensive accessories. When I tried to confirm it by the phone ( ***-***-**** option 1), I was told it's "sold out" by a man reading well prepared statement. I didn't have any chance to ask about the false information on its website b4 he hanged up on me.
I was angry but more concerned about my personal and credit card information I gave to them while placing the online order. I then logined the website trying to delete or at least modify my information, but I can't. SO I called them second time (same # but option 2 for customer support), well, not suprised now, the SAME MAN answered my call. And he disrupted me before explaining my purpose of this call and just assumed it was about the order(he can see my phone #, I guess) and said "it's sold out and bluh bluh" and hanged up AGAIN! OMFG! I called the 877 # again (the third time), and I had to ask the SAME MAN if he can understand English to stop him telling me "sold out" BS! Well, at last, I got a extension number and a name to call for to delete my info but not before he told me it's New Year Eve and something about party. I then just realized he was probably DRUNK!! #@$#$*^&&^$ (censored cursing)!
Well, I will update my comments to let people know if I can get my account and info removed from their system. Please, people, check the websites b4 you place your order!!"
"All I can say is, I should have checked here first. After ordering, a co-worker turned me onto this site, and I immediately began to worry. I placed the order for a JVC camcorder on 12/18/07 via their website, techondigital.com. The next screen said to call them to 'verify' my order. Customer service was closed when I called (the website said they'd be open), so the next day I called to verify. I have reason to believe that the same group of people run thecameraprofessionals.com and cameraaddict.com, because they're all the same, and they never say who they work for, just "Hello". After I got the spiel on how I won't be able to use my camera unless I buy an extra battery, and this non-sense about the camera I ordered being a Japan vs. US model, I declined all their suggestions and just asked for the camera.
I called the next day due to the feedback on this site and requested status. They said they have 18,000 orders to ship (which I HIGHLY doubt) and customer service is unavailable. So I called back the next day. They said it would ship the following day. That day came and went, and yesterday I received an email saying my order is on 'back-order' and will be cancelled.
I feel that had I ordered an overpriced battery, warranty, or the 'US' model, I may be receiving a camera. However, this is a crooked business and I hope the people reponsible for techondigital.com die horribly slow deaths for the grief they cause thousands of people. "
"Typical confirmation scheme.
I told them keep the camera. BS tactics. Stay away. What is the worst thing the loser would take no for an answer. When I seen that email come in to call in and confirm, I knew it was BS.
Stay clear of these losers.
Only bad part is they have my CC info."
"Techon Digital was prompt and accurate on their low price. They did what they said they would and when it was a day late arriving they make it right. I highly recommend this company. I love the camera and they didn't oversell the attachements. I am very satisfied.

"Folks; Read the other ratings on this site. TechonDigital (TD) is a big rip-off! Our experience with TD is like the other reviewers. We surfed looking for the best price on a particular Sony digital camera. TD advertised this model as a new camera at somewhere around $100 less than the Sony site. (Should have been our first clue!) We placed our order on-line. Nearly immediately we received a phone call from TD wanting to confirm our order. Yeah right!. The high-pressure SOB on the other end simply wanted to sell us stuff that we didn't want or need, particularly at their exorbitant prices. I got the first bad vibes when the guy was nearly abusive when we said, "No, just the camera, thanks." It was readily apparent that TD had little if any interest in selling us a camera if they couldn't sell us their over-priced accessories.
I had this strange feeling we weren't going to get our camera. And, we didn't. 10 days later, they still hadn't shipped it. So we called to check our order status. TD said it was on "Back-Order". Right... Then why'd TD tell us that they had all models in stock??? We quickly cancelled the order and called our credit card company to ensure TD hadn't already billed it. (They hadn't.)
Additionally, TD said it'd be a new camera but my distinct impression was that they were going to ship us a refurbished one. They must figure that most people will simply keep the used goods rather that pay for shipping it back and messing with their credit card company. Interesting business model.
It's also interesting that one website had rave reviews for TD. Who'd TD pay off??? Proof that you can't believe what you read on sponsored sites.
In short, caveat emptor! I'll never make another internet purchase without checking a legitimate website like ResellerRatings. Thanks guys for saving us a lot of headache with companies like TD. (Are they really a company?)
