After explaining that I canceled my AMAZON Shuffle pre-order when they had processed my order, and now I'm on the bottom of the queue again in Amazon, I got a quick though vague reply (within the hour) from a CS rep:

Unfortunately the item on your order carries restriction from the manufacturer and requires authorization which we do not have now. It came into force just a day ago. So your order was processed and then canceled by our distribution. We did not reflect any changes as were sure that the order had gone through. Bottom line is that I don't think a store should make these sorts of mistakes, ESPECIALLY with items in high demand such as the IPOD shuffle.

"I ordered the Best Data PCI dial-up modem (Model 56FW92) from Monarch Technology by internet. I ordered the product on January 15th - and received the shipment on the 18th (which is pretty good because it was a holiday weekend). The cost of the modem was $16.69 and shipping by ground is free. Amazon has this for $15.95 but adds s&h for $7.54.
Monarch Technology's website was easy to use. I will probably use them again when I build a custom computer on my own.
The product by Best Data works fine. The only problem is that the PIC Fax feature; which converts windows documents to fax's does not work and apparently is NOT compatible with Windows XP. This is not Monarch Technology's fault though."

Finally I decided to take a chance coz they offered free shipping. Surprisingly the order was processed better than expected, experienced the same as from the top-ranked merchants like Amazon or Dell. They are located in CA and I ordered from NY. I expected the order would arrive at least 9 days (2 days for order processing + 7 days fedex ground shipping). Yet, the order arrived much sooner. They do have a warehouse in NJ, so it took only one day to receive my order from the ship date. Their order status page is nice and clear. Order status is updated often.
