"I dont normally do reviews but because this computer turned into such a nightmare I did. Frist let me say I don't belive they intentionally tried to cheat me. I purchased a raptor z-90 gaming rig in june 2011. I paid $3433.00 for this machine. The salesman was okay, but the service leaves much to be desired. I got the machine out of the box and it would not start up. I called them and told them the problem. They had me try to unplug the cables and different components. I had informed them that I am disabled and I have a difficult time doing these kinds of things, but I would try. It took some doing but I mannaged to unplug all cables and put them back on and the machine and it still did not work. Then they had me remove parts one at a time and try to put them back in. This wasn't the easiest for me to do. I finally got the machine to start, but from there it went down hill. The machine kept crashing all the time. I called them back again and I explained what was happening and they ran me through cmos hoping to fix the problem. It did not. The machine ran speractically off and on for two to three weeks. I had to reinstall windows because I kept getting the blue screen of death as they recomended. This went on for quite a while. I called them numerious times about the same problem. The man I talked to did not seem to know a whole lot of what he was doing. Finally they got one man that did seem to know what he was doing. After another week of faliures they recomended I send the machine back for repair. Durring all this time before I got the machine back two months had past. That's with the time to repair and talking to them on the phone trying to get the machine to work. I called them on occasion for updates on my machine. They told me they found the problem and that it was a networking card. At this point I did a little research which I should have done in the beggining and found out that this networking card has been having issues. They sent my machine back to me and it seem to correct the problem. When I got the machine back they did not run cmos correctly so I called them back and asked how to set the cmos properly. I paid extra for extreme tweeking which was never done. Now my sound card is having issues. I called back again they were arguementative and saying I was being arguementative with them while I was just trying to explain to them the problem. I will say I am pretty frustraited by this time with this machine. So I finally gave up trying to deal with these people. I called a local tech. He told me to reinstall the sound driver. I paid for an Audio Creative Labs SoundBlaster® X-Fi™ XtremeGamer. So I tried to install the driver, but it said my hardware does not support this driver. I called the tech back and he looked at the machine and told me I didn't have an Audio Creative Labs SoundBlaster® X-Fi™ XtremeGamer. I had a different sound card than what I paid for. So he got me the driver for the one I had in the machine. Then my video card started to lock up. I called the local tech back again and he was able to fix the problem. It was a fan issue. Now low and behold my monitor failed on 10/05/2012. So now I have to buy a new monitor. All said and done I had no faith in their service department. This is why I had to call the local guy because all they wanted me to do is keep sending the machine back. And because all they were willing to do is arguee with me I was no longer willing to do that any more. I believe the sound card issue was human error, but when I asked them about it they assured me that I had the Audio Creative Labs SoundBlaster® X-Fi™ XtremeGamer which was bs. I can not blame them for parts failing. I understand it happens, but I do blame them for the poor service that i recieved. You would think paying $3433.00 I would get a working machine without all the attitude. They should have sent a tech out right out the get go. On their site they said they had in home service for x amount of time if problems arose. It would be one thing if I was able to do these things myself, but because of my disabilities it makes it very difficult. My brother bought the same machine from them a month before I did. His machine runs fine. And I took his word for the service there. My bad. The only thing I can say is buyer beware. The parts I believe are of quality but because of service I would not recomend dealing with this company as I will never again. I wish I had done the homework myself instead of listening to my brother. Lesson learned."

"I have owned 2 Velocity Micro desktops.

First of all, the quality of the components and the craftsmanship of the assembly is outstanding.

But if you have a problem with your computer, all that doesn't matter.

What makes Velocity Micro awesome is what happens when you call them with a problem!

It's really nice to dial an 800 number and wind up in Richmond, VA, not somewhere in South Asia where the phone voice reads from a script. Built in America, tech and customer support in America. And every tech I have interacted with has been superb: knowledgeable, pleasant, and helpful.

First machine, I started getting graphic glitches when the machine was 11 months old (yep, almost out of warranty). VM agreed it was the vid card, and since they no longer had the one in my machine, they sent me an upgraded one. Free, of course... pre-paid return form to send the bad one back.

Second machine, brand new, I actually managed to break Windows 7. Yep... BSoDs no matter what I tried, no matter what John, the great tech support phone voice, guided me to try.

It was all because EverQuest, being a 13 year old game, still uses DX9. Attempting to install DX9 so totally bollixed up Windows that I could not even reinstall it from the DVD. Yep, BSoD.

I hand-delivered the machine to VM (I live about 90 min away.) and then had ongoing emails with them while they fixed my problems. I was frantic because there were 2 Excel files on the machine's desktop which I had not backed up before I BSoD'd. VM saved all my data files for me while restoring Windows to operating form. Wowsa!

John suggested I might want to add a solid state HD for Windows and other programs. I took the suggestion, but I need not have; he was not *selling* me anything. He said his was perfect for a particular software we both enjoy.

And when I thought I had messed up again, once I got my machine back (in a *very* timely manner!!), John once again got me straightened out :)

My next desktop will be another Velocity Micro!

"I ordered my new mega computer from a sales e-mail. The OverDrive Big.Block.GTX computer was just what I needed for my 3D CAD work. The delivery was delayed and when I asked, the guy who was building it (Iggy) said they had a small problem with a new better mother board they were going to use and he wasn't going to release the computer until it was perfect. Iggy kept me up to date with progress and when I finally had the nous to enquire what the problem was, he said it wouldn't go to sleep. It going to sleep was the last thing I needed so I told him to ship it. He said he would run another overnight burn in cycle and ship it next day and as I had waited patiently it would go overnight.

The only disappointment I had with this machine was everything was rated 7.9 on microsofts test, except the processor, which was only 7.8! Microsoft is going to have to raise it's standards to keep up with velocity micro. This thing is blistering fast on the 3D cad work, rendering is instantaneous. The Big 500GB SSD drive lets me work entirely in the SSD drive and then transfer the finished files to the 1.5TB HD for storage. USB3 gives me fast easy backups so they can be done at the end of every work session. This is my 3rd Velocity micro machine and it wont be my last. They are not the cheapest, but if you want the best, you gotta pay a little extra for it.

"Purchased a Velocity Micro Raptor system a few years ago and it was not cheap. It was, however, the worst PC I've ever owned. Power supply, video card, hard drive. All went bad in short order. It became so unstable, even after being wiped and reconfigured several times that it wouldn't stay up for more than 40 min at a time. Even after sending the unit back (at my expense) for a complete diagnostic and re-fit, it did not improve at all. Eventually I just had to abandon it and buy a new computer from another company.

I'm frankly shocked to see so many positive reviews, especially about the customer service because I was not impressed at all. I had to call back all the time and explain the same problems several times to different 1st line techs who would ask me to do the same diagnostic steps over and over. And yes this was with a case number, etc.

On top of everything else, even during the few brief periods where it was running at all, I never got the level of performance I expected out of such an expensive computer.

Maybe I just had a lemon, I don't know. My advice, though, would be to look elsewhere for your gaming pc needs.

"I have worked with, or dealt with many computer companies and software vendors. I would rate Velocity Micro one of the best based on my experience with them. I had a power supply problem and shipped my computer to them. They were always responsive, answered all my questions and were very pleasant to deal with. Also I do like their PC's, a great value for the money."

"Just received my first VM PC and I am delighted. During the course of customizing and ordering this PC, I made numerous changes and spoke to two members of the sales staff (Jay and Chip) and an engineer (Iggy) and they were all uniformly pleasant, professional and helpful. Ultimately, I was able to configure the perfect system for my needs.
Two minor glitches must be mentioned: One, the PC wouldn't boot up on arrival. A quick call to Ellen at tech support revealed that the SSD containing the OS had come unplugged (thanks UPS). A simple fix, and I was up and running.
Two, the PC shipped without the Firewire adaptor I had ordered. Again, Ellen took care of it immediately and shipped it out to me and offered to send a technician for the install. On the whole, I feel this was an appropriate, customer-centric response to an oversight that was understandable, given the numerous changes I made to the configuration after the initial order.
So, if prompt, "real humans" service and a killer product are your needs, why would you even consider the Dells and HPs of the world?
My experience so far has justified my decision to support the little guy.
Great job, Velocity Micro! You've got a new customer. A+++ all the way.

P.S. Forgot to mention - the PC shipped earlier than expected, a pleasant bonus!

"I bought a T410 Cruz Tablet as a Christmas gift for myself and have been very happy with it for the past eight months. I use it primarily as an ereader and enjoy the 10 inch screen size. Downloading new books from amazon.com is a snap and the account is free. It's also convenient way to keep up with email and facebook when I travel. I spoke with tech support once and the woman had the problem fixed in less than 10 minutes. Last month I bought the newly released T510 Cruz Tablet with the latest android and a few other nice features. So far, so good."

"Bought a gaming computer three years ago. Well made and has worked well. Have had several issues in that time, all but one software related. Always impressed by their customer service, especially as they don't make the operating system software. The one other issue related to the hard drives, and that was fixed by replacing the cables. Would definitely consider buying from them again."

"Received VM Z40 for my wife. Extremely happy and just ordered VM Z90 Raptor for myself. VM40 system is very well made (very high quality all way around), very clean inside (you can see all nice components inside thru a huge window), assembled with greate care with all wires/cables well put together. VM40 is super fast and plays all latest games like CD3/BF3 on 30" Monitor at 2500x1600 settings.

The system comes with nice brochure signed by system builder and Q.C. Also, all brochures from motherboard, graphics card and all discs are included in the shipment. The system came very well packed.

Very impressed overall!!!

"Back in May of 2010 I spent more than $5,000 to build one of their "signature series" machines. I had it designed with games in mind. It has been an unmitigated disaster. I first heard about Velocity Micro on CNET and thought it would be great to support a local company that has a good review from a reliable source. In the 26 months I've owned the machine it has had to go back to the company 3 separate times! The mother board, one of the high end graphics cards and the power supply have all had to be replaced. Additionally, 2x they have had to send technicians to my home.
While the company staff seem courteous and knowledgeable, their product is TERRIBLE.
SAVE YOUR MONEY! Buy from anyone else.
I am now in a fight with them to get a 50% refund under the Virginia Lemon Law.
I wish I had never done business with them.

"VelocityMicro is excellent on the big stuff i.e. they delivered a reasonably priced gaming PC that scores 7.7 on the Microsoft Entertainment Index. However, they muff the small stuff which makes it impossible to give them a top rating.

1. They shipped a defective keyboard(letter keys produce numbers). This is probably just a missing or incorrect driver, but the problem seems to stump their tech support.
2. Their only option for Wi-Fi is a USB N 150 which has very poor range.
3. They sell monitors with integrated speakers which are weak in both range and volume, certainly inadequate for gaming.
4. Their mouse is awkward at best if you are left handed.

Not the biggest or most expensive deal in the world but I had to go out and buy a keyboard, mouse, Wi-Fi solution and speakers to make this system what I wanted it to be.

"From my experience, Velocity Micro is first class operation in every respect. Product support, both sale and service, is not only readily accessible but excellent, and is based directly out of their Virginia, USA location where the systems are built. Product quality is excellent with many configuration options conveniently selected from their website. A recent problem with my system was addressed professionally, courteously, and persistently by service personnel until it was resolved. Highly recommended!"

"WOW what a system my VM z40 is. I wish I had bought this years ago without going threw the pain of junk systems like HP,Dell and the king of junk Cyberpower. This system is clean, sleek and super fast. I love it so much I'm keeping my desktop wallpaper Velocity Micro.
To add a little when I ordered my Z40 I did opt to upgrade the processor from the I5 2300 to the I7 2600k this has made my computer just perfect for what I do with it.
And what is a HUGE part of any computer purchase is if you need help you can call Velocity Micro and talk to someone HERE in this country that speaks real English
.

A rep from Velocity Micro, Velocity Micro, has responded:

“McGee,
Thank you for taking the time to post your initial impressions of the new Z40. The system you selected was a recent Editors' Choice by CNET and PC Magazine. I'm glad that it meets your expectations.”
