"My experience with Velocity Micro was pleasant from beginning to end. Selecting and upgrading my system of choice was very easy. The process was well laid out. When I received my PC it was well packaged and all the contents were nice and organized. Last but not least, my system runs like a dream! "
"Well-organized and easy to navigate website. Top-notch equipment choices. Very personal and interested in designing a system to meet your needs. Actually cared enough to counsel me against certain upgrades that they didn't believe would work for me.
Reasonable delivery. End-product is exceptional!"
"My last 3 PCs were Dells and I’ve always been happy with their reliability and figured I’d be a Dell customer for life. My last Dell is 4 years old and was beginning to show its age, so I went shopping for a new Dell. I wanted something fast, a dual core AMD or a similar Intel for my graphics design and development work. Dell did not offer a dual core that was comparable to AMD X2 and I found they are still selling their boxes in same boring grey case as my old Dell.
So I went off comparison shopping and found Velocity Micro. Their web site is clean and effective just like the PCs they sell. Their prices were middle of the road between high end builders like Falcon and the many discount shops you can find on the web.
I live in Virginia and even with a sales tax “penalty”, VM stood above the rest when I did a price to quality comparison. One comparison I used was quality of cabling and Velocity Micro stood out. VM prides itself on getting the details right and they followed through flawlessly on my order.
My PC came with everything I asked for and their quality shined through from order processing, shipping, packing, delivery and build. My applications are now run blazingly fast and the PC’s silver case, side window and blue lights look so good I moved my PC from the floor to the desktop. I’m not a gamer, but I think these PCs look and perform great for a designer or developer.

"First, The support and shipping were great. I recieved my gaming laptop in a matter of 3 weeks, right on schedule. This is where things went bad. Four days after opening the computer, the ethernet adapter simply stopped working. No error messages, no system messups, just a complete and utter stoppage of a four day old adapter. I decided not to return the computer as I decided that buying a pcmcia ethernet adapter for 30$ was more viable option then losing a computer for a few weeks. Then, 3 weeks later, the hard drive stopped working. The load up screen would start, then turn black and load nothing. The velocity micro tech support people were baffled. One week later, on a whim, I turned the computer on one last time before sending it back in and it loaded fine like nothing happened. Then the computer worked great with no problems for a few months. Then the Motherboard had a serious problem, and wouldnt let me play or load any sort of game and even stuttered on flash games and banners and loading Itunes was a chore for it. I finally turned it into repair on December 17th, 2005, and now it is February 8th, and they still tell me its being repaired. It nears two months from the send-in date and their only response is that laptops are hard to repair. Being a college student with no computer is a sad situation, and have already missed 2 physics assignmnents that were sent through email. I will be happy once the computer comes, but until then, as my grades suffer, I am angry. "
"I decided I wanted to buy a brand new gaming computer and looked at every possible site. No where could I find exactly what I wanted for the money I wanted to spend. Then I heard about Velocity Micro and I heard nothing but good things about them. So I decided to give them a try and bought a Velocity Raptor 64 DualX. The specs:
600 Watt Enermax Noisetaker
Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe Motherboard
AMD Athlon FX-60
Velocity Micro LiquiCool 2 Fluid Cooling
2048MB Mushkin PC3200 DDR400 Low Latency
2 x 512MB eVGA NVIDIA® GeForce 7800 GTX SLI
Audio Creative Labs SoundBlaster X-Fi
Western Digital 2 x 200GB RAID 0 Stripe(400gb)
17" Philips® LCD Display
I placed my order on January 20. The whole process was simple and I couldn't wait to get my computer. I recieved emails about the status of my computer every few days and was never left in the dark. I finally recieved my computer Feb 1 which was a full week ahead of schedule. The packaging was perfect and there was no damage done to the computer.
The computer is absolutely perfect looking and I can't believe how well put together it is. I recieved a whole bunch of free software along with all of the manuals to the hardware in the computer. They even included a bag of the left over wires and parts from the installation. I can play any game on the highest settings with no problem and I absolutely love it.
I would recomend Velocity Micro to everyone. Alienware stand no chance against them especially since Velocity's prices and service are so much better. I will definitely buy from them again in teh future."
"I really can't say enough about my Velocity Micro experience. The ordering was a breeze, the shipping was exactly as and when expected, and the computer.... oh the computer... what a magnificent beast.
Also, importantly, they send along about $200 worth of extra goodies - like every possible motherboard add-on imagined, ports, you name it; it came with the computer. (at least mine did; I don't want to box them into something) I have had occasion to interact with both Support and Customer Service sice the purchase (nothing wrong, just my questions) and both departments were fantastic. AND you talk to real people, AND real people answer your emails QUICKLY with real responses, not canned auto-garbage generated by most company email centers.
Yes my Velocity Micro experience was perfect. I bought from them after reading issue after issue of PC Magazine and PC WORLD magazine extoling just wonderful the systems are. All the reports are accurate..... great systems, great company.

"I have purchased two computers from Velocity Micro. The quality has been excellent, and the service has been better than any other computer company that I have ever dealt with. That includes Dell, HP, Alienware, Hypersonic, and Sony. I use my machines both for business and gaming and they are equipped to handle the demands of both. Velocity Micro is committed to being a hometown (US) based company, unlike companies like Dell and all the others. Sales, customer service and 24/7 tech support are run out of Richmond, Virginia by the people who build your company. They do not outsource anything. I enjoy quality from America, and not having to deal with tech support from India. I will buy from Velocity Micro again."
"Ordered 12/3, delivered 12/20. At every step of the build process, I was informed of the progress of the machine.
Like many others, my CPU fan had shaken loose of the rubber mounts, but was easily reattached. Other than that small burp, everything was exactly as I had specified (even though I had asked in their free-form comment field for a particular non-standard configuration, that was done right too.)
Windows was set up exactly as I would have done it (virtual memory settings, etc.) and they DO NOT bog your system down with a bunch of unneeded software like other big-name computer companies. You get what you ask for, and nothing else. Amen!
The packaging was sturdy, and the documentation far above what I expected.
All of the connectors, CD's, brackets, cables, etc. of all the components they used were given to me, along with a "clean system restart" CD AND the original Microsoft Windows CD.
All in all, a completely positive experience; I'd use them again, and am recommending them to my friends."
"SYSTEM PURCHASED
Vision 64
Athlon 64 4000+ processor
1024MB memory
120GB WD hard drive
ATI Radeon X800 XL graphics card
CL SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card
(No monitor or speakers purchased)
I have been putting this computer through it's paces for about a month now and would like to take this opportunity to say "thanks" to everyone at Velocity Micro for a great job. Below are some comments about my purchasing experience.
CONCERNS:
1. After researching and shopping around I had a few questions about the hardware available for the Vision 64 computer. I sent them an e-mail through the contact page on their web site which went unanswered. After five days I configured a system on their web site and sent a proposal requesting that a salesman contact me. This too went unanswered, as did a second proposal the next day. I was a little concerned at this point since my past experience has been that sales people are much easier to get a hold of than customer support. A single phone call got me in touch with Trace Dixon who was more than helpful (and apologetic). So ..I recommend calling Velocity Micro and NOT trying to reach them through e-mail.
2. When I first lifted the computer out of the box I heard the disheartening sound of something flopping loose inside the case. As many others have reported, my CPU fan had come off its mounts during shipping. The fan is pressed into place on small rubber mounts which are excellent vibration isolators but apparently they have not been transit tested. This is really a problem of Artic Cooling's fan design not Velocity Micro. However, since it seems to be a common issue I don't know why the fan isn't secured for shipping along with instructions to remove the restraint before starting the PC. I would just as soon have to open the case to remove a twist tie as to remount a fan that has been banging around inside for days.
3. While the GX case has plenty of expansion bays the included ribbon cable does not appear to have the extra connectors needed and will have to be replaced if more drives are added.
THE GOOD STUFF
1. I couldn't help but notice that Velocity Micro received their lowest ratings here for "Pricing of Products and Services". I couldn't disagree more. The system I purchased ended up being several hundred dollars less than comparable systems from other manufactures. The closest competitor was approximately $400 more for a similar system. I even priced up the individual components using several internet retailers and I'm not sure I could have built it myself for much less.
2. By using boxed "retail" versions of many key components Velocity Micro is able to send the drivers, documentation, and extra connecting hardware with it's systems. For anyone who has experienced the frustration of trying to work on computers with the always mysterious OEM software/hardware this is a welcome departure form the norm.
3. After reading several of the comments here on ResellerRatings about problems with fan noise I elected to purchase the 550Watt Antec quiet power supply and Artic Cooling Ultra Quiet CPU fan. I am happy to report that with these upgrades my Vision 64 is quieter than the Dell Dimension it replaced.
4. Other than the above mentioned fan issue the build quality is first rate. The components were assembled as I requested and all the wires are neatly tucked out of the way. After a month of use everything checks out fine. Just plug it in and turn it on. You can tell these guys have done this before. It even looks cool!
If you couldn't tell, I'm very pleased with my purchase. I would recommend that anyone looking for a new computer check out the offerings from Velocity Micro. I'm considering a new laptop as well and have no hesitation of buying from them again. As for my earlier concerns about being able to reach customer service? Haven't needed to!

After shopping around, I learned that Velocity Micro has the best combination of price, quality and customer support. I placed my order on December 5, 2005 and received my computer on December 16, 2005.
This is the first desktop I've purchased. The salesman I spoke with on the phone was patient and friendly and answered all of my questions satisfactorily. He did not try to oversell me, and advised me if I was ordering something I didn't really need. He asked me a few questions to find out what my computer needs were, and matched me up with exactly what I wanted. (Be advised that Virginia customers have to pay Virginia state sales tax, as Velocity Micro is located in Richmond, Virginia).
The monitor and the speakers are shipped separately, and sent quickly after your order is approved. The actual computer was packed in a HUGE cardboard box of heavy-duty cardboard. Velocity Micro recommends that you save this box if you ship your computer back for maintenance and/or upgrades, so I would advise not cutting up the box any more then necessary. The computer fits tightly inside and will probably take two people to get it out without trashing the box.
There was no visible damage to the box or the computer. I opened the panels to both sides of the computer and saw that the CPU fan had fallen off it's mounts. I anticipated this happening from reading other customer reviews. I was able to quickly re-attach the fan. The CPU fan is attached to the CPU heat sink by four soft rubber thingies to minimize vibration noise, so it's easy to see why it would fall off during shipping, just be sure you check this before you turn the computer on.
When I turned the computer on, it booted up quickly with no problems at all. I started installing some of my personal software and learned that I installed two firewalls (I'm new at this). The computer started rebooting over and over. I freaked out and called tech support.
The lady I spoke with first asked me my invoice number, so have this handy if you have to call.
She talked me through a few steps and advised me to reboot with the DVD recovery disk, (a $20.00 option which I highly recommend you buy). The computer was quickly restored to it's "new" state and I started over a little bit more wiser.
One more piece of advice -- the registration number for Windows XP is printed on a sticker attached to the back of the CPU unit. Write this number down and keep it in a handy place, otherwise you may have to access this number when your CPU unit is in an inconvenient location.
One of the neat things when you first turn on the computer was the blue neon light that comes on. The system has at least four fans, and is a little bit loud if you have the CPU unit on your desk. I placed it on the floor on a CPU stand, and the fan sounds are hardly noticeable. There is a port for headphones and a microphone on the front, and I found this very convenient. Another neat trick was when I turned Windows XP off, the CPU unit turns off automatically.
Included in the shipment is a large folder with several CD's for drivers and updates, the motherboard, the display driver, the sound card driver, and the keyboard driver. Also included were Nero software, Power DVD software, and the Windows XP software. Booklets included the Velocity Micro computer users guide, motherboard guide, and Nvidia video card guide. There was also a large plastic bag with assorted wires, cables, and screws that was leftover from the installation process that is useful for future upgrades and modifications.
If you get the Asus motherboard, I recommend going to the MajorGeeks.com website and downloading the Asus PC Probe for motherboard monitoring. There's also a download for Asus Live Update.
I opened my case two months after purchasing my computer and noticed a significant amount of dust inside. (I have a dusty room - this is not a slam on Velocity Micro). If dust is a concern, I recommend going to www.PuraPC.com and check out their line of fan filters.
All in all, I found my shopping experience with Velocity Micro to be friendly, smooth, efficient, and hassle-free. I would recommend them highly to both first time computer buyers like myself, as well as more experienced users. "
"Velocity Micro GamersEdge DualX:

2048 MB Muskin DDR
2 X 256 MB eVGA GeForce 7800 GTX KO in SLI
2 X 200 GB WD2500 HD RAID 0

Placed order 12/27 and received machine on 1/5. Everything works perfectly and I am very impressed with the workmanship and quality. The salesperson, Trace, was very accomodating and professional. I wanted a high-end machine with rock solid reliability and I think Velocity Micro delivered. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone and I will definetely use them again! Absolutely a first rate company."
"Awesome ssystem. I have been using PC's EVERY day for the last 22 years. I used to build my own but that got too time consuming. It's nice to see someone build a box the way I would do it if given the luxury of time.
Components are top of the line and assembled flawlessly; documentation was organized and complete. Delivery was on time and packaging was more than sufficient to arrive in my office safely."
"Velocity Micro Dual X.
Placed order on 11/12/05, received on 11/23/05. Product was shipped sooner than quoted and a representive called on a regular basis to keep me updated on my order. Configurator was easy to navigate and the componets listed were all top grade(many could be found in various computer magazine's top or best lists). Price was in line with other online gaming computer sellers. Would do business again, and highly recommend Velocity Micro. "
"I really like the computer. It's solidly built with the exact parts I was looking for, and it arrived on the exact date they told me it woul. Pretty amazing, if you think about it. I paid a few extra dollars for this system compared to the Dell I was thinking of, but now that it's here, I know I got a great value with all of the attention to details.
The one thing I was not too sure about was the service. I've read lots about others having issues, but they have helped me with a few issues that I caused with extreme courtesy and professionalism, and I love the southern accent.
I'd suggest Velocity Micro to anybody who needs a great computer."
"I ordered my Gamer's Edge DualX on Wednesday November 23, 2005.
AMD Athlon X2 4800+ (CPU)
ASUS A8N SLI Nforce 4 (Motherboard)
1024 MB Mushkin DDR (Memory)
512 MB Geforce 7800 GTX (VGA)
250 GB WD2500 JD (Hard Drive)
and all the other goodies
($2915)
By the next Wednesday(Nov. 30), they had finished and shipped my system! =) I recieved my system on December 8th (via Ground Shipping, which had me a bit worried since they were located in Virgina and I live in Hawaii - yes they have ground shipping to Hawaii, it goes ground to CA then gets flown here). Needless to say I was happy to open their box and see no noticable damage from shipping. So I plugged it all in and started it up on the boot screen I got the message "CPU Fan FAIL or Too Slow". Upon closer inspection I found the fan had detached from where it was supposed to be. It was a minor inconvenience and I simply opened the case and reattached it. I noticed another reviewer who had the same problem, but much worse as the system would hang and freeze. My PC has shown no signs of freezing or slowing down whatsoever, thus far. In fact everything seems to be perfect and I'm extremely satisfied with Velocity Micro, and I hope I don't run into any problems. All the conversations I've had with their staff were very polite and professional. I would definitely purchase from them again, in the future. I am very happy and ecstatic to have my computer. My only suggestion would be to find a more sturdy mount for the CPU fan. All in all it was a great experience, and I'm glad I chose Velocity Micro. "
"Ordered a basic, inexpensive business system. The PC took 3 weeks to build, and came with a problem out of the box. The problem, which turned out to be with the hard drive, took 5+ calls and never got resolved. I was offered the option to send the unit back to Virgina for 2-week-turnaround service.
The PC is well-constructed, and uses top-shelf parts, but I can't recommend them based on my support experience.
The on-site tech who I had has no training or knowledge of their systems; didn't identify himself as the tech assigned to my Velocity order; broke the power switch during our work; mis-configured the front panel leads; was ultimately unable to solve my problem.
The phone techs were friendly and helpful but were stumped by this problem.
I really, really WANTED to like Velocity. I WANTED to like a business with US based tech support. I WANTED to do business with them. But the support experience has already cost ME one of MY customers and I really can't excuse (or afford) that.
UPDATE 12/13:
I got a new hard drive from VM, this one doesn't work either (the Maxtor that I bought for testing works fine).
VM responded to my resellerrating but has not responded to e-mails that I sent asking for help with this situation.
Because I am now more than 30 days from date of purchase (still a non-working computer), they will not refund my money.
I had bought this machine to resell to a client of mine. My customer cancelled their order with me, so I am now stuck with this machine. I hope the techs in VA have better luck than the phone support folks.
I was hoping for some flexibility on the return process, because I TRIED working thru tech support to get this fixed.
*** UPDATE 1/29/06 ***
I've got a credit on my card. I'm not sure if it's AMEX or Velocity. I don't have return instructions or anything yet.
In case you choose to buy from Velocity, you may want to use American Express because they offer Return Guarantee; if the vendor won't take their product back they will make it right.
Someone at Velocity took the time to reply on this forum but no one helped me fix my problem."
“Dear GregCgen,
We deeply regret your trouble with the system and the difficulty in the repair process. Your system was tested thoroughly prior to shipping, but sometimes we cannot detect hard drives that are susceptible to failure after shipping. The tech dispatched to assist you will not be used again, and we apologize for his workmanship.
We have recently added additional support technicians (graduates from our production department) and are ready to assist you better in the future.
Sincerely,
Velocity Micro”
A rep from Velocity Micro, Velocity Micro, has responded:
“Dear Spraggles,
Thank you for posting your feedback. At this point, you should have received your repaired notebook.
We'd like to point out that you did use your notebook overseas on 220V, which we believed caused your motherboard problems. Our warranty clearly states that we do not cover systems outside the US. However we did accept yours for repair as a favor to a valuable customer.
With our thanks,
the Velocity Micro team”
