I should have researched this company before purchase

"I ordered an expensive bottle of champagne to send to my daughter at Fort because she announced they are getting married just going down to the courthouse before she gets deployed. I’m in Los Angeles. The order was $70. Fed Ex can’t seem to figure out how to deliver it. I’ve been on the phone with wine.com and FedEx for a week trying to get this delivered. Still hasn’t been delivered to her fiancée’s apartment. I asked them to deliver it to a drop off location. There is a nearby Walgreens. Let’s see if this will finally work. I will update. I wish I never ordered from wine.com."

Shipping practice unclear

"They hold your order until the daytime high temp is between 32 and 85 which makes sense but isn't made clear at purchase. Try shipping to Phoenix and it'll be on hold indefinitely!!! Will never use again."

Horrible customer service!

"If I could give this -stars I would. Apparently I’m supposed to receive a call from one of their supervisors and I’ve been waiting for that call for like 3 days now. I keep calling and the people that answer keep sending me to their supervisors voicemail. I am trying to cancel my order and no one answers!!! Horrible, don’t waste your money on the site. It **** "

Terrible customer service

"They promise delivery dates but do not abide by them. We work full time for a living. I pay for free shipping for them. Then I have to pay fedex to reschedule for the date I originally wanted. When i contact customer service they simply say they dont ship that date so ship a day earlier and its apparently fedex's fault? Do not promise delivery days you cannot abide by. Additionally, when I replied to customer service I received no reply. Hello, there are plenty of places to buy wine. When you receive hundreds of dollars a month for wine, you should also give excellent customer service. Wine delivery and liquor stores are not a rarity. Three times with poor customer service is too many. I gave them chance after chance and have been continually disappointed."

Do yourself a favor, go to a different online wine merchant

"So as wine.com pricing continues to go up, I started to click the found a lower price link to ask them about certain bottles. After taking the time to send them the information they requested so they can assumedly get back to me to either offer a lower price or not....now they just tell they don't participate in price match. When questioned about the above link and its purpose, they simply say its a seperate department that takes care of that, and as customer service reps they simply know they don't participlate in price match. I waited 3 days to hear something from the "independant" pricing desk, they never even responded...and I sent 2 follow up emails!!! This company has clearly derailed, their pricing is not competive, their customer service is a joke....and when asked about it they give off the cuff careless responses. With many other lower priced options, why stay at wine.com?"

TERRIBLE customer service.

"My experience with 3 different Customer Service reps was atrocious. I was simply trying to use a valid discount code on one 2+ case order, and was advised to split the order for faster delivery. I asked IN ADVANCE via online chat if I could apply the code to both orders and was given a 'special one' that would work for both. It didn't. I contacted online chat again, and was told the original discount code DID NOT EXIST. No one looked at my existing order to see that it DID exist, and DID work. They just told me I was out of luck. I then wrote to Customer Service via email and was told another 3 times that I was out of luck. WHY would I buy from these folks again?!??! I wouldn't. AND I just found out the continue to use FEDEX, even though FEDEX supports the NRA with their discount program. We Are DONE. "

Great Wine Cellar!

"I love being able to purchase the wines I want. Paying a fee like Amazon is brilliant for free shipping for the year! I can check my order status online, I realize there can be a wait for some wines to come in, and in the winter, weather can slow shipments. Have had a very positive experience!"

Horrible experience

"I did't receive the delivery order after couple days of the scheduled date. I contacted the customer service and was told that my order was canceled because the shipping address is a forwarding company address where my friend work at. But I never received the cancellation notice until I contact them.
Horrible customer service! Horribel experience!

AWFUL SERVICE - DID NOT DELIVER PRODUCT AND LIKE PULLING TEETH TO GET REFUND

"this company is awful. I bought 5 bottles of wine from them that was supposed to be delivered Saturday, and no delivery. Nobody calls me .

I have to track down through Fedex only to find that it was returned because it was damaged. Then I was told I would have my $100 + dollars returned Monday morning, only to find out tonight, Tuesday night, that my refund has still not been processed.

I will NEVER order from this company again, EVER

I try to chat with service only to be put on hold with nobody to help. They only care about getting your money.

This company couldn't care less about you! Terrible!

"I ordered a couple bottles...my first transaction with Wine.com....and the ETA date changed a couple times. They probably got word that their shipment was destroyed while in transit before I decided to check the tracking to find out what happened. Well, that was in December so in early January I started calling for my refund not seeing it show up as a refund on my credit card. Each call, the customer service rep had a different spin to the issue. The third call I made, I was told "you received your money in the form of Wine.com credit". Really? That's your policy? And you don't bother to inform the customer? I made it perfectly clear that I wanted the credit to be refunded to my credit card. So, after two more calls being told it is in process and and takes 5- 7 days (even though it has now been about 25 days) I never received the refund so I called a sixth time. Amazingly, this Customer Service rep tried to explain that it takes time because the credit and billing department are in a different parts of the country and it takes time. I somehow must have slipped into a time warp where phones, email and internet didn't exist yet and the Pony Express was hijacked! Come on! Who are you kidding? They just don't care and hope you go away or will use your credit on the next order. Fat Chance! This company is a sham! Go to your local wine store and if they don't have it, they can order it and you don't pay until you receive the merchandise. "

Not reliable

"This was my first time ordering from wine.com and they used fedex for delivery. Because it's alcohol, I had to be at home and sign for the delivery, so I made arrangements to work from home and waited for fedex. They never showed and informed me they could not make the delivery because I wasn't home. I called fedex and as they are useless (and actually acknowledge that!), I now have to drive to a fedex office to get my wine. I contacted wine.com and told them that their delivery failed. Their attitude was - sorry, we'll do better next time, and a smiley face. I replied and expressed my disappointment at their lack of interest in doing anything to make up for my bad experience (e.g. refund shipping, $5 off next order, nothing!). They acknowledged fedex issues are not uncommon but took no responsibility or made any attempt to reverse my bad experience. I know they can't control fedex, but they chose them, not me. I honestly think good customer service is dead - I always think of Mike Holmes - Make It Right. I will not be using them anymore"

Prepare to wait for you wine!

"I have always received my wine, but it's always been a nightmare experience with fedex. I remember one time fedex lost my package, then after wine.com reshipped it, I still had to wait over a week on fedex to deliver after they kept returning it to the warehouse everyday(not attempting delivery). If you pay for something like overnight, next day, or 2 day shipping... FORGET IT! You will be losing your money and they won't refund it. The real problem with this company is that they choose to exclusively use fedex, instead of offering other alternatives, like UPS, and they refuse to hold fedex to the fire. You WILL end up on the phone with fedex and wine.com trying to get you stuff, and I believe I'd rather put my hand in a wood chipper than to call fedex "customer service" department again! The only reason I've ever used wine.com is that they usually have a decent variety and they get new releases pretty quick. Don't be duped. If you like to order wine online, go with smaller shops, like the ones on winesearcher.com. They actually care about their customers and will do everything they can to assist you. Most of them use UPS, and I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience over there, after numerous orders."

Decent selection, average prices, convenient

"I have been ordering wine from wine.com for no less than 6 months now. I first started ordering from them when I considered buying Bordeaux futures. Since I planned on purchasing a great deal of Bordeaux 2015 and 2016 futures, I contemplated getting the Stewardship, and I eventually got it. It has paid for itself. Since that time 6 months ago, I have spent around $10,000 on wine -- about half of it Bordeaux futures and the other half for wine that is in stock. I didn't approach wine.com with the intention of buying $10,000 worth of wine; it just happened. My Bordeaux futures haven't been shipped yet, but I have received multiple other mixed cases of wine over that time.

First: the website. It has an >average selection of wine. It doesn't have in stock some of the smaller boutique Napa vineyards that I like, but I wasn't expecting that. You can find just about all the major French, Italian and Californian wines that you want. Other sites have larger selections; others have smaller selections. The search engine is great. I like how all the ratings are immediately visible and when you dig deeper into a selection, you can read the actual professional reviews. I agree with some that the way the website handles cookies and the shopping cart is annoying. You definitely have to be sure that what's in your cart needs to be refreshed. I also agree that adding the coupon codes sometimes doesn't work; you just have to try a few times, refresh your browser, etc. Yes, annoying, but the coupons work for the most part -- other than for things they specifically say are ineligible (like futures).

Second: the Android app. It's terrible. It's not a big deal. What I think is a bigger deal is that the website is not terribly mobile responsive. It's functional, but not on a great level. I make all my purchases when I'm sitting down at an actual computer.

Third: the prices. They're not very competitive. They're more average. However, for my needs, with the Stewardship, discount codes (I never order until I see the 10% off code), I can get a case of wine for less than what I would pay for that case of wine locally. That's a win for me.

Fourth: the choice of FedEx. Yes, they do require an adult signature, otherwise, every teen in the US would be ordering wine. Doesn't that make sense? I agree it's inconvenient, but I made an account with FedEx and have all my wine.com purchases shipped to Walgreens (the FedEx local drop-off site). I stop by Walgreens on my way home when I get notified that it has been delivered. I learned to do this after I had multiple delivery attempts with my very first purchase from wine.com when no one was at home to sign. Yes, it was annoying, but I was more annoyed with FedEx than with wine.com.

Fifth: the shipping. I have had one incident with shipping. I ordered a mixed case of Napa cabs and whoever did the packaging forgot to put the top guard in the case, so when I opened the box, the bottles were strewn about and some of the labels scraped up. As many of you know, Napa cab bottles are THICK, and there was no damage to the glass. I didn't lose anything, so I had no real claim; it was just to notify them. The next case I received (ordered at the same time) was well protected, so I think it may have been an isolated incident.

Sixth: customer service. I really haven't needed to reach them except on two occasions. I contacted CS once for the shipping/packing issue I stated above, and I also contacted them about what I thought was two missing bottles from an order. I ordered two Barolos as part of a mixed case (12), and I received only 10 bottles. As it turns out, by the time they processed my order, the 2 Barolos were out of stock. They charged my card for the 10 bottles and eventually emailed me (after reaching out to them) that the wines were not in stock. I would have preferred to have received an email proactively that the wines were out of stock and that my credit card was being adjusted. Instead, I had to comb through emails and my CC statement to make sure I wasn't crazy and to make sure that I wasn't overcharged. They should have informed me when they shipped that what I was receiving wasn't precisely what I ordered.

Summary-----

With respect to the other reviews here and elsewhere, I think many of them are pretty ridiculous -- people complaining that they ordered too late for the coupon, didn't refresh their browsers after leaving/logging out or couldn't get an $8 discount for ordering more expensive wine. Some of them sound pretty serious -- switching expensive wine for cheaper wine or taking weeks to over a month to deliver. Honestly, if I read the reviews before I ever ordered, I probably never would have touched wine.com!!! However, I can say that what has been stated in these other reviews really hasn't been my personal experience -- the vast majority of orders and shipments has been very good.

I plan to keep buying from them for the foreseeable future.
