"Run away from Alibris! There is zero customer service - you cannot call and talk to anyone. You can send an email but it may take a couple days to get their canned response. 2 of the 4 books I ordered had problems and had to be returned...I hope I get the promised refund.
Stupidly, I decided to give them one more chance and re-ordered one of the correct versions from them, paying expedited shipping again to get it in time for school. 9 days later it hasn't arrived and I've discovered that their "expedited" shipping isn't trackable and may take up to 30 days to arrive. Never, ever again!!! I will pay premium price to buy from a reputable company in the future."

"Paypal just paid Alibris when I received an email from the seller..Applewhite, which was thru Book Emporium. The seller said Alibris would not pay her..offered me the book if I would pay her again personally..(Book Emporium had the item 'shipped')
Alibris would not tell me what was going on, but gave a partial refund due to the delay. Then advised me to wait longer just in case the book was shipped. Such inconderation. Like they are dealing with electronics and not human people."
"I ordered a book from Alibris which was described as good. I noted that a book described as fair "may not include cdrom or access codes." Relying on the descriptions, I purchased the more expensive copy that was described as good book because I was purchaasing the book for the CD. The book did not contain the CD and is useless without it. Alibris refused to correct this saying " We can’t make any guarantees on items listed as “used,”"
I have been a good customer and relied on what I thought was a reputable company. I discovered that when a problem with a book did arise, they were unwilling to correct the situation.They refuse to reimburse me for the incomplete book although represented to be in good condition. So if you buy a book from them know that there is no assurance that the book will be in the condition described and they will make no effort to remedy the defect. I was very disappointed in a company that I thought was reputable.
Be very careful if you buy a book here. I used to buy many books from them but when a problem arose with a book that was not as described, they refused to make any effort to fix the failure to send a book in a complete condition. Dust jackets and markings or bent pages don't matter as much as the completeness of the book. I didn't contract and pay for a book which was not all there especially when described as in GOOD condition.

"I ordered 11 books from Alibris. Each book came from different vendors. Ten of the books arrived and were in good condition and I was pleased. The 11th book arrived in good condition but I could not believe it was a free book that anyone can get from a box of Cherrios. I know because I got this book out of one of our boxes of Cherrios. It is a free book. The print is so small you need a magnifying glass to read it. As a teacher, I wanted to share this book with my class and that is why I ordered it, thinking I was getting the full sized book. I cannot get over that I was charged a price for this book and then shipping and handling for it also. I will think twice before ordering a book from CarpePMbooks again. "
"I ordered a new book and received a used copy. The seller asked for the books description, the address from which it was shipped and also requested pictures. I answered all his questions and sent him photographs after which he disappeared. The customer service representative suggested that I send the book back to the seller at my own expense and wait for a refund. Um, I don't think so. Something tells me that once I do that (at my own expense!) I'll have no book and no refund. Run away from this website! "
"alibris cancelled an order though Buy.com. I had ordered a blu ray movie at a very good price, but a day later, Alibris had cancelled the order. When I went on line to check to see why, they just said the order was cancelled.
They have a history of doing this with other customers and the did this to me about 3 years ago. I wished they would not cancel orders.
BTW, the price of the order was $5.92. They canceled the order and jack up the price to $29.99. I'd call that bad business"

I sent them an email stating that it had been FIVE WEEKS since I ordered my book and had yet to receive it.. never even got a response. "Alibris took money from paypal for my order, did not use paypal shipping information like 99.9% of every other company that uses paypal. Please note; I have been with Alibris since 1998. This is the worst treatment I have ever received. I got an instant email letting me know that the books were being sent to my old address. I contacted everyone: alibis, (changing address), both sellers of the two books I was buying. One book seller got hold of me immediately and I got the book, no problem. I got a dunning message from Alibris "ooh your bad, you should have given us your new address before sending, there is nothing we can do." The second seller, I sent an additional email through alibis, since they do not give out ANY information on their sellers. I asked for a phone call confirmation: no phone call, no email. in a day I contacted Alibris complaining that I could not get ahold of the seller, that "yes indeed it was my fault in assuming they would use paypal shipping information..and that sorry I had not updated my shipping prior to order, but I have almost 40-50 companies I do business with online you fell through the cracks. I got back a message from I assume India judging from the name of the service rep, "so sorry to hear that they never contacted you, that is not usually our sellers way of responding."...whatever that means..."we will refund your money if we get the book back(!)" my problem is: how do they even know the damn seller had sent me this book? 2. How do I know this seller is not scamming both Alibris and me for charges of a book I never received? Today Alibris wanted 'feedback' on my order. I gave a neg. review. We are so sorry for your problem we will contact you later to try to fix this...I have since contacted paypal demanding mediation and payment back."
"Alibris sucks! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! If you are trying to get a text book for your class don't bother ordering from them. Find it anywhere else. They show that they are in California but my book was shipped from the UK. Do you think I got it in the required time for my class? I had even paid for expedited shipping and was told that it was shipped later than stated and to expect it to be at least 14 days and if I didn't receive it to check with "my local sorting office" so absolutely no customer service at all and no tracking information, etc. Basically they are just a middle man for other companies. They don't even have a phone number where you can talk to a live person for help. "
"Via Amazon on 1/30/11 I placed an order for 11 items that Alibris had for sale. I got a confirmation within 24 hours that my items had shipped and a time frame for delivery. On 01/10/12 I got an email from Amazon that none of my items were available. Alibris' excuse is that it is too big to have any control over inventory. As though they were dealing - perhaps they are - with 3x5 index cards and one clerk."
