"Like previous purchasers, I received the e-mail needing the call for "verification purposes." My original order was for a Canon SD-100 Digital Elph camera. The original order price was $205.99. When I called the phone number and extension in the e-mail and spoke with the salesman, I was told the camera wouldn't ship for 6-8 weeks unless I purchased the "2-hour battery" for an additional $20 (the original battery with the camera only lasts 15 minutes, according to the salesman). I figured $20 wasn't too bad a deal. The camera shipped, via UPS ground, 2 days later 6/21, and I received it today, 6/24. I find it interesting the battery in the box (which *should* be the optional 2 hour battery) and the battery mentioned in the user manual have the same model ID number (NB-3L). I did fare better than most people who have dealt with this company, and still got the camera for a significant discount (new camera, supposedly). The total order was $255.98 (with a charge of $25.99 for S.H.I.P. Fees. "

"Same problem as all that I read on this forum. Professionnal arrogant unpolite scamers. After being put on hold 5 times, the price on the phone was all of a sudden 25% higher than on the web site. Even though I had a confirmation for the camera that I ordered, I could not get it without the cheap unprofessionnal accessories thay added to by bill withtout my consent. When I said "So, you try to rip me of?" The guy said "Of course. You don't think you will go away with a cheap camera without buying our accessories. You need them and will get them with the camera or you will not get the camera." Then I asked them to cancel the order an I received an email stating it was canceled. I lost 2 hours of my precious time with those crooks. This web site should be shut down, they do not reflect the great customer values of America."

"Don't buy anything from A&M Photo World.

I had a terrible experience with these scammers. They sold me a Nikon D70, a grey market version for a USA version. They mailed me accessories I had never ordered. They overcharged me $697.00 on my credit card.
I called their customer service, they hunged up on me eight [10] times. I will report them to the Better Business Bureu. So they revoke their license and stop scamming more customers. Besides they called themselves "Friendly customer service."

"This place is a scam!!!! Just like everyone else, I ordered a product (Nikon D70), received the email to call for verification, I was given the sales pitch about accessories and, since I don't know much about the cost of accessories as I was getting the camera for my husband for a gift, I said yes to some of them and no to others. Then, the sales rep of course asked whether I saw their "special package" on the website - which I hadn't (and which they don't have as I later discovered) - that includes all of the accessories for a mere $100 more than the cost of the accessories I just agreed to. Like an idiot, I agreed to this "special package". When it arrived, the camera was as described, but the accessories included a cheap camera case and various other accessories that cost less than half of what the "special package" price cost. Of course, I received this more than seven days prior to father's day and cannot now return it according to their policy. My husband is trying to find a way to recoup what we lost in the scam that ended up costing twice as much as the camera would in any reputable store. It was a very expensive lesson learned! "

"I had a horrible experience with this place even without fully buying anything. Just like everyone else - placed an order because they had Fuji S7000 for like $199 after rebate, which is WAAAAAY below the average price. After that I read the reseller ratings and realized that if you type in A&M Photo World into Google you get all kinds of Fraud websites. That made me wonder so I decided to cancel the order. I call them up and after 15 minutes of waiting, I have the following conversation:

rep: "What's your order number?"
me: *give him the order number*
rep: "Why do you want to cancel the order?"
me: "A little suspicious that your prices are like 2X below the average"
rep: "This has nothing to do with what I just asked you. Why do you want to cancel?"
me: "I believe I don't *have* to explain why I want to cancel, do I?"
rep: "Ok. Bye."
*rep hangs up*

What the hell was that?? No confirmation number, no asking whether I want something else, nothing! I don't even know if he cancelled the order or not! I have never heard of a more rude customer service in my entire life...

I can only imagine the poor quality of their products, but the customer service is definitely awful.

"I placed an order for a digital camera, and was told it was in stock. I did not order any extras as I was replacing a lost camera and already had accessories and a transferable extended warranty. Within a few days I checked on the order, it was on backorder. Predicted delivery 4-6 weeks. I called them and asked if they had this same camera in stock, I was told they did, so I asked them to send out the one I had ordered that was on backorder. The customer service rep then got nasty, saying that if my order says its on backorder then it indeed is. I asked why he just told me they had it in stock, he told me he wanted the order. They are still showing that they have the Olympus C765 "In Stock" on all sites. I tried to get out of him why they can't be honest and he ended hanging up on me. I wasted 2 weeks waiting and calling on my order, and ended up cancelling it. The advertised price is a scam, cuz unless you order the expensive extras (which I had ordered much cheaper elsewhere), you will end up on the backorder list. I had even explained that I already had all the extras and only needed to replace the camera, and they had said it was not a problem. I can't even give a sales reps name, because when I asked him for it he would not give me his name, what is that? PLEASE, DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE PEOPLE, THEY NEED TO BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!"

"I had the same experience as everyone else:
1. I placed an order on their web page.
2. Received an e-mail stating that I need to speak with their customer service department for "verification purposes".
3. My wife's BS sensors kicked in and warned me that this is a scam....I didn't believe her (darn it).
3. I spoke with a guy in their customer service department that started preasuring me to purchase over-priced accessories. I would have purchased one or two but when the price jumped well over the cost of the same unit from a reputable vendor, I told him that I would have to hold off.
4. I called back the next day and told them that I would like to purchase only the camera and lense.
5. The guy told me that the camera would not work without the accessories. I told him that I understood. He said that he would process my order.
6. The next day I received an e-mail stating that the camera I ordered is on back-order.
7. It finally occured to me to look for some reviews and discovered that others have had the same problems.
8. I canceled the order and will be contacting FTC and as many news organizations as I can.

This company need to be shut down....it is truely a SCAM !!!!

"TERRIBLE ALREADY. DONT DONT DONT BUY HERE! Bought a camera. They tried to sell me the standard equipment listed on their web as accessories. Email confirmation said I had to call and confirm. First big mistake for an internet order. HIGH PRESSURE SALES JOB to buy what Minolta includes as the base package. They even take the included battery out and try to sell it back to you. When I tried to cancel without buying more the customer "service" goon said call back tomorrow and hung up! "

"I'm really not sure how this company makes any money. They won't ship the item unless you buy $250 worth of accessories and by that time the price is so high that you could have bought the real retail kit cheaper from any number of reputable dealers. I actually read the reviews here prior to placing an order. I placed the order as an experiment because I couldn't understand why a company would act in this manner. I still don't understand why. If you think you wasted your time placing an order, imagine how much time these guys spend on the phone and computer cancelling them.

I guess if they repeatedly charge $40 for shipping and in reality shipping costs around $5 then they make about $35 per returned item.

"Don't Buy From This Company!

I wish I would have read the reviews here before placing an online order on June 6 for a Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel. As others reported, the standard scheeme is:

1. I placed an order online.
2. I received an email message to call them for "verification purposes".
3. Rep. (Paul) tried to sell me warranty and accessories. I declined.
4. Rep. said he would have the unit shipped out.
5. Received an email that camera is on back order.
6. I called and got evasive answers. Person answering did not itentify himself. He said I could cancel my order so I did. I asked if I could have a cancellation number, he said they don't do that, so I asked for his name and reluctantly he said "Mathew".

"I have ordered an Nikon70D (body only) from amphotoworld.com with the price of $729 plus $35 S&H. Too good to be true ? You've got it. I got an email from them telling me this order has been cancelled. I called the customer service and asked them why they cancel my order. They said with this price, you are only get the "body", no recharger, no battery, no software,... Just A body. And, if you want those required accessories, buy the $1099 package.
I feel so regret that I wasted my time to deal with them. I should check their review rating first !!

"***NEW UPDATE***

It's June 3rd the day after, and it was time to see what kind of service I could receive. Here goes:

I placed a call in the morning and it goes something like this:

The woman answered without acknowledging what company I had called so I had to confirm that I was calling the right place. After stating that I had a huge problem and that I received a non-working unit she asked me to hold...then click. Yep she hung up.

So I called another number which is listed on the invoice/packing slip and got through to customer service. After hearing him ramble on and on about how I was crazy for wanting to return the unit instead of do an exchange (which would have taken an additional week or two) I would rather take a loss on the restocking fee and shipping than deal with them. He assured me that he could ship a new one...a new WHAT??? You mean an almost new refurbished camera. No Thanks! I'll take my almost full refund. Well let's just say he still was trying to convince me that I was crazy. He did offer me a $20 credit if I was willing to do an exchange, only after questioning why I would have to pay for shipping back to them when they sent me a piece of crap to begin with...hmmm how about, NO!!!

Well let's just say the refurb is on it's way back to them and I now plan on contacting the FTC, State Governors Office, and all Consumer Affair Agencies that are out there.

We need to put these guys out of business.



STAY AWAY, FAR FAR AWAY - DON"T EVER ORDER FROM THESE PEOPLE

I made a HUGE mistake and didn't check out the ratings on this dealer before purchasing.

Well let's say my experience has also been quite similar to the others who have complaints upon complaints.

Well here goes...

Placed an ordered for a Canon EOS Digital Rebel (300D - Body Only) and got the same email that other cutomers have gotten where you need to call them to confirm your order. This is clearly their way to get you to buy into whatever it is they want to sell you at the time (upgrades, accessories, and warranties???). This did not bother as much as what you are about to learn since the price was better than most.

Interesting how they tell you that you ordered an "international model" which does not come with anything, even a manufacturers warranty...??? Should have seen a scam coming from that statement.

It wasn't a big deal since I was getting a fairly good price, right???

Received my order as promised (next day air) on June 2nd. Opened the package and plugged in the charger and attached the battery to the charger (all of which was an extra charge - no big deal since I need it for the camera to function anyway) and attached the camera strap.

Battery was quick to charge and as I go to place the battery in the battery compartment of the camera - the entire battery cover is missing from the body??? The battery is still able to lock into place but without the cover it leaves that part of the camera exposed to dirt and dust. So I emailed them to see what can be done. No big deal, right???

Well after placing the battery into place the camera doesn't work at all!!! Nothing!!! No sign of life from any of the functions or switches.

Here's the best part so PAY ATTENTION...

Upon further inspection the camera has noticeable wear - nicks and scratches located on the built in flash, around the eyepiece, top of the CF card compartment cover, and a small worn abrasion near the AE Lock/FE Lock button/Index/Reduce button, all indicating either poor FACTORY handling by Canon (not likely) or (which is now obvious) a model which has been REFURBISHED and sold as NEW. This is in addition to the already missing battery compartment cover. Oh yeah, can you say REFURBISHED!!!

To confirm my refurbishment suspicion I contacted Canon USA directly through their website. Received the quickest response I think in the history of big companies online. Within 3 minutes of me sending the email a response came back which clearly states that most likely this was a used piece of equipment because the only other explanation that was given was that it was damaged in shipment (it was perfectly packaged and sealed). Also the camera appeared to have been factory sealed but it is obviously a used non-working unit.

I have contacted them by email several times as soon as this came to light. So tomorrow will be interesting to see if I receive any response.

I'll keep everyone posted to see what happens.

Just remember to never buy from them no matter the price.
