"They deducted $7 from my $49 check, so a 7th of my total. One deduction was for more than $5 for a DVD box set. The reason on the communication I received stated "not received". I knew this was incorrect and so I contacted customer service.
This is the response I got:
"If items are a boxed set they must be scanned under one(1) barcode number and must include all inserts (if it comes with inserts). There are cases where the item(s) are scanned under the right barcode number but has a different title. If wrong descriptions are sent in they would be rejected as "Item not sent" as well."
I disputed that any of this was true as I thoroughly checked the item before I sent it. This was the response:
"With regard to your enquiry, If the item(s) have a marked line through the barcode, a hole punch, split, or gold print wording that says "Promotional" they will be rejected as such. Per our terms and conditions all items must bare the original 13 digit barcode they cannot be searched online. Otherwise they would be rejected as "Item not sent" or "Promotional/ No barcode". If items are a boxed set they must be scanned under one(1) barcode number and must include all inserts (if it comes with inserts). There are cases where the item(s) are scanned under the right barcode number but has a different title. If wrong descriptions are sent in they would be rejected as "Item not sent" as well."
I again dusted that any of this was true but, after this, they did not respond to any of my emails...
What annoys most is that they were unable to tell me what was actually wrong with the DVD box set that Is sent in. Instead, they just explained theoretically why it might have been rejected. This is not good enough. If you are taking $5+ of my money, I want to know the reason and think I am entitled to know why.
I will not use them again!"
"I have sent at least 10 orders to Decluttr. They "seemed" to give the most for several of the CD's & DVD's that I had. The first few orders were a little slow to process, but they got really fast and were sending my checks very quickly.
My main problem with them, is that several of the items I sent them work (in their system) and they won't pay you for them. They'll cite that the are record club versions. Well, why do UPC's work in your system and quote a price? They then refuse to pay you for them or send them back. This amounts to stealing!
There customer service department appears to be based out of the U.K. I am through dealing with them (and will either sell them locally, at a loss on-line, or donate them to charity). It's just not worth my time and effort anymore. I was losing money with Decluttr anyway. Incidentally, don't look to make any money with companies like this. You will receive a fraction of what you paid. They give you about 50 cents or less for DVD's and 40 cents or less for CD's.
Most of what I sent them was new and sealed. There is no distinction between used and new. I have hundreds of items that I am unloading. I admit it...I'm a hoarder. Decluttr won't be getting any of them. It's their loss!
"
"Pros:
They are paying you for old CDs and DVDs that you would otherwise have to just take to Goodwill.
They pay for the shipping, which is good since those boxes of CDs get heavy. They will send you the shipping and packing labels to print at home or mail them to you.
The app is easy to use, just scan the barcodes and you are off.
Cons:
They pay you an average of 30 cents per item. Some only a nickel, very few up to a dollar. You are getting about 2% of your money spent back. Better than 0%, but just barely.
If there is not a clean clear bar code you cannot sell to them. I had several old BMG CDs with no bar codes, could not sell them to Decluttr. I had purchased some used CDs with holes drilled through the bar codes, could not sell them to Decluttr.
I had several promo CDs which they could not take.
BIGGEST CON:
If they determine that they cannot take your item for any reason, they just keep it. Do not pay you for it and do not return it. That is known as theft. Theft of pennies, but theft just the same."
"Overall satisfaction achieved; definitely consider utilizing Decluttr services for future endeavors."
"I love cutting down on unnecessary items on my shelves. Having digitized my music, I can start getting rid of the CDs themselves. This will make it so much easier when I move. Thanks! "
"Declutter is catchy because they claim to except almost any dvd/cd you are willing to sell. However, I submitted 2 orders to Declutter and 4 orders to different companies over the last few weeks & Declutter was the most disappointing when I received my payment. They did process the orders quickly & my check was sent fast as well. Out of the 5 different companies I used Declutter was the only one to decrease the amount of money I initially thought I was going to get. Both of the orders had "items" that were decreased in value or of no value & I did NOT have this issue with any other company/order I used. They do not tell you specifically what items were not up to their standards but both orders were paid out significantly less than originally expected. I have to say, overall, I was pretty disappointed as I inspected each item and cleaned off every case before shipping them out. When I was reviewing the different companies I noticed Declutter said to take pics of your shipment before sending & they may be a good idea. Their pricing is not great to begin with & as I stated earlier I had no issues with 4 of their competition!!! Also, items come up different prices! I tried to put all of my items into one order but when I re-scanned some items they came up much less than the original scan. I contacted customer service but they were of no assistance. Beware!"
"Used their app to scan all my stuff I no longer wanted. They gave me an offer and a label for postage, then received my check. I've used the a few times now and would recommend them to others."
"I am very pleased with this app! The process of entering items is very easy, and I got my check in the mail quickly! I would use this app over and over. "
"I've had some old CDs in boxes since the dawn of the digital age and was tired of lugging them to new apartments every time I moved. Decluttr makes it easy to clear out the old and earn some money at the same time.
I grabbed a stack and used the Decluttr android app to scan the barcodes to see what they would accept and what the price I could get for them. I ripped a few of my favorites to my music library and sent them off by UPS. Decluttr makes it easy to ship the order to them by providing a prepaid UPS shipping label by email (or you can request one by mail).
Processing has been quick but now that they send the funds the day after they get your box, it's even better.
I've used them 4 or 5 times so far and received around $150 for stuff that was just hanging around gathering dust."
"I had been searching for a place that would let me do just what their company claimed to do, get rid of my clutter. I looked at a lot of sites and read everything and I finally settled on Decluttr. For the following reasons: 1) Simple to do. 2) Promise to pay in a timely manner. 3) Everything I needed to complete the transaction was there at my fingertips. & 4) They followed through with their commitment of payment on a timely basis. I can't say enough about this company, more people should use them, I have already sent them two orders since I found them. I only wish they accepted books, since that is my project now, but of course I'm not through with the DVD's quite yet, and they will probably get another box from me soon. Keep up the great work and I am spreading the word from my end of their wonderful business."
"I cleaned out my cabinet full of CDs, and was glad to find that I could sell them back through Decluttr. It was easy to scan the barcodes on each case, print a prepaid shipping label, box up and send them in. They paid a small amount for each CD, and I was glad to get them out of the house."
