"The laptop arrived with a major startup error that only HP Tech was listed as being able to fix. THe laptop would not boot - defective on arrival.
As it arrived on a Saturday I used Chat with an eCost rep. In the first minutes I told them the error "System Board OOA Product Information Not Valid for help go to www.hp.comgotechcenterstartup" and that I had researched it and it appeared it would have to be serviced by HP themselves. I explained I wanted an RMA and a replacment.
Their chat person "Girlie" (yes, their name) said "Let me check" and after being on chat for 25 minutes more Girlie NEVER returned. Aaarrrrggg.
So Monday I called eCost phone support who at first refused to let me send it to them for exchange insisting I had to deal with HP. I NEEDED the laptop and was disgusted they would not exchange it. THeir tech guy simply get repeating his script over and over. I insisted on a supervisor.
Finally after escalating and telling a supervisor I would take this up with my c-card company they agreed to REFUND my cost, provide and RMA and UPS label. But I was on the phone for 45 minutes of my time.
And I would have to order another laptop and risk the same bad interaction. I chose a different source...

"I received a damaged refurbished laptop. The frame was bulged scuff marks everywhere and it was dirty!! I was told that I would be contacted in 24 to 48 hours for an RMA. This should have been handled on the spot with a replacement shipped out the same day with an RMA for the damaged one!!!
Needless to say I am disappointed. The gentleman that I spoke with on the phone was professional but did not process this order immediately to keep an ecost customer happy.
Update: I spoke with eCost.com again the next day with a very nice lady Ann. She was extraordinarily helpful with my order. She help me return the item to eCost.com and held another refurb laptop for me so I could exchange it for the exact model. I am hoping it ships out today. She called me back 3 times to let me know the status of my return request. This was excellent customer service hence the upgrade in stars. I am mostly disappointed in HP. I understand what a refurb is but they should have never let this one out the door. To be fare to HP, this also could have been a problem with UPS. As always, the box I received looked like it had been in a war. The inner box (HP box) had a ugly crease down the middle as well.
I will continue to shop at ecost.com because of my experience with their customer service.
