Worth the Effort?
"I ordered an LG 55EF9500 online on Saturday morning, April 2. Received a call and email from Alfred the following day asking that I call to "confirm" my order (uh oh -- what bait-n-switch companies do). Gentlemen I spoke with on Sunday asked whether I was aware what I ordered was a "2015 distribution". Claimed there were known picture problems with the TV that LG would not fix. I presume he was trying to upsell me, but we didn't get that far, after I told him repeatedly to just send me what I ordered. Paid for expedited "UPS Rushed" shipping, but item is still in "DS Queue" and hasn't shipped three days later. Buyer beware. Update -- April 5: Called and spoke with the same gentleman I spoke with yesterday. He promised to call or email the wholesaler and have them call me to advise when the TV will ship. We'll see. I'll update when I hear back (or don't). Second Update -- April 5: Out of frustration for the lack of expedited shipping (I had paid for UPS rush shipping), I called Nice Electronics this afternoon to cancel my order and quite surprisingly allowed myself to be upsold to a 2016 production or "distribution" unit that Nick promised was a 2016 unit. For more money, of course (still less than otherwise advertised at the local big box store), but Nick promised the TV would be shipped directly from LG's location in NJ for delivery to me tomorrow or Thursday. I needed the TV this week, that's why I agreed to the upsale. Still waiting for a tracking number. I'll update this review and perhaps its rating when I receive the tracking number and an on-time delivery. April 12 Update -- Okay, after this review being TWICE deactivated by resellerratings for allegedly violating resellerratings.com's "policies" (the first of which reportedly was due to a challenge by Nice Electronics that I was an actual purchaser!), I'll try to edit this review again to make it and stay live. I received the TV on Friday, April 8. Outside box showed shipment was not "directly from LG" as promised or even from Nice Electronics (which likely is just a drop shipment retailer) but from a nearby NJ electronics retailer that itself has received some sketchy reviews (not AD, but...). The inside LG box showed direct shipment to that retailer from LG Texas on March 28, 2016. TV inside the box was as ordered and showed a manufacture date (in Mexico) of March 2016. That was encouraging. Until I set up the TV and turned it on. There is a thin black horizontal line on the screen that is there on multiple sources (cable, BD/DVD, etc.). Called LG and was referred to a local authorized service tech company. Am now dealing with them. So after ALL of this effort and frustration, I have: (1) a 2016-manufactured LG 55EF9500 OLED TV that cost me $600 more than the one I originally ordered (which I admit I reluctantly and perhaps stupidly agreed to pay); (2) that ultimately cost hundreds of dollars less than what I would have paid for perhaps a 2015 model (?) at my local electronics store with sales tax; but (3) has what may be a manufacturing defect. Having not purchased this thing from my local big box electronics store, I can't just throw it in the truck and take it back for a replacement. Am hoping the service tech process won't be prolonged and I'll have a working TV before the end of this month. Would I purchase ANYTHING from Nice Electronics again? Not a chance. Caveat emptor."
