Do not purchase desktop PC if you plan of keeping it for over 3 years
"My alienware desktop meets all the minimum specs to install windows 10 on it but dell stopped releasing BIOS updates that allow my system to support the windows 10 update. I found my own way to work around it and got the update installed so i am running windows 10. I would not expect the average consumer to be able to do this kind of task. I am catching a trend now that Alienware is not making even newer versions than mine of the Alienware Aurora (mine is the R3) to support further windows 10 updates. for example when windows 10 came out i had to force the installation of windows 10 on my PC in order for it to work through a very tedious process since the BIOS does not support it. Only later versions of the Alienware aurora R3 support the update and any newer version of the alienware aurora support it as well. Now that the Fall creators edition of windows 10 came out not long ago, i have noticed that any computer that is an alienware aurora R5 or newer can support this update https://www.dell.com/support/article/ca/en/cadhs1/sln297954/dell-computers-tested-for-windows-10-fall-creators-update-and-previous-versions-of-windows-10?lang=en. even though these computers that are older meet the minimum requirements windows has set they cannot upgrade because alienware does not provide driver's and a BIOS that can support the upgrade and deem that model "incompatable". I suspect alienware does this to take your money so you purchase a new computer from them once every 3 years or so. I feel that a customer should be able to use their product to its full potential and not be limited from using their product because alienware makes it incompatible through a BIOS that prevents you from keeping your PC relevant. This has just lost them my future business and i regret ever purchasing an Alienware PC and i do not want others to feel the same regret. If alienware wants customer loyalty then allow people to use their products as they please and do not make older products "incompatible" with newer versions of windows when the products meet minimun specifications. If their plan was to make me purchase another PC through them so i can use my windows 10 without any issues then they have lost all my interest. I hope that his post turns people away from alienware."
