Very Dissatisfied
"I attempted to buy Yuasa batteries from JMAC. I was told the battery I ordered was not in stock, so I asked for a substitute which, according to JMAC's Amazon store, was on hand (in stock). Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I was informed that this substitute was not available either — but JMAC would be happy to order either battery for me if I was willing to wait 5 WEEKS. My order was then canceled by mutual agreement. The rep I dealt with was Tim Moran, polite but ultimately unhelpful. This company is, in my opinion, incompetent/unreliable at best and untruthful at worst. I will not attempt to do business with them again. The one star rating might be a bit harsh, but there's no provision for 1.5 stars."

"Prelude: I used to really enjoy building my own systems -- selecting and assembling the components, loading the OS, debugging and tweaking... debugging some more. Sometimes there were conflicts that were difficult to resolve but that just added to the challenge and enjoyment. Maybe I'm showing my age, but for me, the thrill of bringing a box to life is gone. Now, I just want to unpack it, plug it in and have it work. Recently I resigned myself to the fact that I'd squeezed all the life out of my 2005 build that I could, so I began to review potential system-builder candidates. I eventually narrowed my choices to two: Puget Systems and AVA Direct. AVA won out for two reasons, the first of which was price -- they simply offered more for the money. Second, my wife is a network manager in a small office and about three years ago she began the migration from Dell to AVA. She has been quite pleased with the quality of the equipment and the level of service provided by AVA. That was good enough for me. To make a long story short, I ordered a well equipped, powerful machine from AVA to do professional image editing and I am very happy with my purchase. The order process is a little intimidating at first due to the vast number of component choices available, especially if you've been out of the hardware loop for awhile. However, AVA's staff is able and willing to offer guidance once they understand your intended use and budget. The total time from order to ship was a little longer than I expected (hence only 4 stars for that aspect), but I did specify at least one non-stock item that caused part of the delay. AVA also takes the time to thoroughly test (or burn in) each system before it leaves their facility. The goods were double boxed in ample packing and survived the trip to my door without issue. The icing on the cake is a good standard warranty -- something a DIY builder has to do without. I highly recommend AVA Direct."

"I received shipment of a Nikon D200 on Friday, March 30, 2007. Due to my schedule, I was unable to do anything but testing for basic functions when the camera arrived. A few days later, I discovered after thorough testing that it appeared to have banding and front focus issues that do not conform to Nikon's spec. This discovery was made after the return period had expired. I wrote to 17th St. Photo and related all of the above and concluded with, "I understand that you have a 7 day policy on returns, but I am asking for some consideration. I would prefer to exchange the D200, not return it for a refund." A RA# was issued and, after speaking to a rep on the phone, a new camera was sent out immediately (with free shipping) so that I would have the new camera in hand before I sent the old one back. When the returned camera was received by 17th St. Photo, a credit was issued promptly to my credit card. Excellent, prompt service by a professional, courteous staff."
