"My order was processed and arrived faster than the timeframe they gave! The order was packed really well - one of the best packing jobs I have seen. The prices are great too."
"The online site uses the same item number for multiple items, ensuring ordering confusion. Items are listed in random sections, with wrong descriptions, incomplete descriptions, hideously misspelled descriptions, photos of other items, and sometimes no descriptions at all. It also lists things in stock that aren't, and also does not list items that are in the store at all. Items randomly disappear and reappear, and the people supposedly maintaining the product information on the site don’t know the difference between a drill bit and a hammer (or at least it looks like that is so). Meanwhile the people who set the prices are sitting on Home Depot’s site to make sure they can set prices to the exact penny of their supposed competitor.
In the stores, the employees try to convince you to buy other items than the ones you want (even when what you want may cost more). Very few of the employees at any Lowe's I have been to have any idea about anything in the store - and we are talking basics like a person at the window and door desk not knowing what a threshold is (they thought a threshold was a deadbolt), or one of the employees in the wiring stating they can't find the wire I want cut in their own display (I had to find it myself) and then standing on the piece of wire that the other employee is trying to cut for me. The cashiers randomly walk away from the registers to talk to other employees, talk on their cell phones, and to stand with other employees at other registers – and then they make you get out of line and walk back to the register they were supposed to be at. The employees also allow people to return items not sold at Lowe’s, return used items like opened (and expired) roof coatings and paints (with part of the contents dribbled down the sides), return lumber that has pieces cut off, return pieces of electrical wire, return used tools (no you really shouldn’t be allowed to return tools like saws and chisels that have been used if they don’t have any defects) etc. They also don’t bother to inventory the items when they arrive, and the people responsible for inventory don’t actually check to see if the items they are counting are actually the items that are supposed to be there. Employees that are supposed to know how to operate a forklift run into shelving and products. Other employees tear up the products they are supposed to be stocking. Meanwhile music blares over the ceiling speakers.
Finally, we have the Lowe’s corporate mentality that appears to be “if it’s not for sale at Home Depot it won’t be sold here either.” The whole point of having different stores is to find different products. As it is, Lowe’s and Home Depot could merge some of their stores together and it wouldn’t be noticeable to me for a long time. There is also the mentality of every Lowe’s must be a different layout, and every product must go where it looks prettiest, resulting in a hunt throughout the store because you can’t expect all the electrical tools and parts to actually be in electrical, for example, and gee, you mean the trash bags shouldn’t be in the paint section?
Home Depot is not any better.
This is an overall review for my many visits over the past few years."
