"Crucial SSD direct from Crucial: predicted delivery the 16th and received on the 12th. Wonderful! I never use Windows so the Acronis software included was never used. I installed the SSD (I had a spare SATA cable) using an adapter that came with my case (I assemble my own computers).
I installed the Linux Mint 17 on the SSD and mounted the two existing HDD as directories in Linux. Now my Music, Pictures, and Videos are transparently available from the HDDs while the SDD handles the other stuff. I did use the Linux version of TRIM by putting "discard" in the options of the fstab file for mounting the SDD.
The SSD is working fine, no problems at all. Booting up dropped from 46 seconds to 23 seconds but some of that time may be software pauses built into the OS. Launching Chromium web browser takes just under ONE SECOND! Libreoffice takes longer, almost 3 seconds. Very very fast response. Only when something must be taken from the web does the response slow down - definitely not the fault of the SSD.
