GD-77 is a great first radio
"My dad bought me a GD-77 from Radioddity. For under $100US we got a small, well-built VHF/UHF radio that supports DMR with an extra battery and two antennas.
The English manual is very hard to understand, between the weird translation and mystifying organization. But the “code plug” (read: “configuration”) software for the computer is great, once you get it installed. It’s well-organized, and exposes the full capability of this little radio. Would definitely recommend to friends!"
