Well, I was taken in by the glowing reviews of these people, but I can't much for them at this point. Two things:

1. I ordered a pair of "premium grade" DDR400/PC3200 DIMMs. They sent some DIMMs with stickers on them that say "DDR400", but the chips are Hynix hy5du12822ctp-j's. The Hynix data sheet says that the "-j" grade is rated for 133Mhz/CAS2 or 166Mhz/CAS2.5, which means that these chips can legitimately be used to build DDR333/PC2700 DIMMs, but nothing faster.

I haven't unwrapped them to plug them in and see how the SPD is programmed; I don't know whether they'll say DDR333/PC2700 (i.e., mislabeled) or DDR400/PC3200 (i.e., overclocked by the manufacturer). In either case, they're certainly not for me, and they don't say much for this vendor's concern over the quality of what they're selling in one case, or their honesty in the other.


2. When you pay via paypal, it says that the payment is going to "SMK Superstore". You might want to look up SMK superstore on ResellerRatings and see if you like them as well as "1stchoicememory.com".

Please learn from my experience and save yourself some annoyance.

8/26/09 update:

To be fair to these people, when I sent them back they did a partial refund of the original purchase amount - but they did not reimburse the return shipping as I suggested, so it cost me $3.95 to discover that I shouldn't order things from them. Nor did they provide an explanation. I still can't recommend taking a chance on them.

"I made the order on the 4th of August, and I just received it today, the 14th of August. In order to track the items I ordered, I upgraded to the Online Order Status and Delivery Confirmation shipping option. According to the update emails I received via email, it wasn't until the 11th that the items were received by USPS for shipping. Why was there such a long delay between my initial order and the parcel getting to the post office for shipment to its destination?

It took a bit longer than the estimated arrival date of 4-6 business days, but the items I ordered (Memory Upgrade Kit) came with no problems, and I was able to install them into my system without a hitch. I am very satisfied with the quality of the items, and would be happy to make a future purchase with 1st Choice Memory. I just hope that the next time around, there isn't such a long delay in shipping the items out."
