"DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I placed an order on a Canon S5 IS at an incredibly low price. I received an email for confirmation. Then another email to say I needed to call to confirm. When I called, they tried to up-sell me to other products. When I declined, I was told on the phone I would receive it in the 2 weeks they promised. I hung up and looked at my email immediately after the call and it stated that my order was out of stock and it would be a minimum of 4 weeks before I would get it even thought their website said that the item was in stock. I called and politely asked about my purchase and was given a very nasty reply and they hung up on me, TWICE. I cancelled the purchase. I also contacted my credit card company to stop any charge that might come through. I had exactly the same experience as most of the other reviews on this site. I'm leaving this message as another dissatisfied ex-customer. "
"I wish that I would have known about this site before I ordered. This is the worst web experience ever! I ordered a Canon SD870 and of course received the message to call for confirmation, then had to endure the abuse, hearing how the camera had no battery - or next to none. Said that I wanted to get the camera before I was going to consider accessories. Before I knew it, I had an email message that my camera was back-ordered, I couldn’t access my account, etc. I immediately realized what had happened and that I probably never would get a camera. I cancelled my order immediately and received no apology. I guess the process of learning never ceases."
"Dealing with this company has been the worst of any of my internet shopping experiences. Like all the others I received an email to call Steve at 1-***-***-**** Ext. 203. AND like all the others I was told I would need to buy extra accessories because the camera didn't come with batteries and a sd card. I said I couldn't believe what he was telling me because according to my research the items shipped in the box included batteries and SD card. He assured me I was wrong that batteries and sd card were only temporary and would produce very inferior pictures. I asked to cancel my order but he continued to high-pressure me into doubting my own information. He said shipping would be free ..it wasn't. Needless, to say I caved and I'm sorry. However, all is not lost...I learned a valuable lesson...one I knew but had forgotten....BUYER BEWARE!!!
I wish I had seen this site before I ordered. Never again will I do any business with this company.
Thanks to the site owner for providing this outlet to warn future shoppers.

"Just confirming what other reviewers have said... this store is 100% bait and switch. After I "confirmed" my order by calling Jason and declining to purchase overpriced add-ons, my camera became backordered (on the phone 7-10 days, in an email 3-4 weeks). I called again and told the customer disservice rep that the website showed the item ships in 1-2 days -- he quickly pointed out that the website says "usually ships in 1-2 days.""
"Consumers please do not waste you time with these scammers. First they advertise that they have the best prices and what you are ordering is in stock, that's a lie. They play a game. There game is that they will send you an email to contact them to complete your order, then when you call them they say your CCV number on your card was entered wrong or they will say that you inputted the wrong expiration date ,when you know that you put the correct info. From this point they will try everything to up-sale on things that go along with the item . Things that you really do not need. Then when you refuse to be sold additional items, they say that your order is complete and thanks for your purchase. Shortly there after you will receive an email from them saying that your item is in backorder and it will take an additional 3-4 weeks. I really don't know how or why they are still in business. I wonder if they are using all of peoples info to make fraudulent purchases. Lets all do a Class Action Law suit and get these punks."
"The very same story here -- the "bait and upgrade" bill of goods whereby I ordered, then the next day received an email to call them (for "incomplete" mailing information - False), they told me there was a 2-3 day back order, that the price went up $30 overnight, and that it was _necessary_ to get an SD card for the Nuvi 680 to the tune of $180-599 (False). I said no, and was promptly sent an "out of stock" email for 3-4 weeks. In order to then get an email cancelling the transaction took 3 phone calls and over 40 mins!
DO NOT USE this Vendor!

"I ordered a Sony Cypershot DSC-T200B online on March 5th, 2008. I called 86th St. Photo after placing the order because it was not appearing on the "my account" section of their website. I spoke to Jason and asked if this item was on backorder. Jason told me it was and after hearing this I asked him to cancel the order. He then told me he would. Shortly thereafter I received an e-mail stating my order was cancelled and my credit card would not be billed. "
"I so wish I'd known about this site earlier. I never would have tried to order from this "store". Long story short: Pushy, rude salesperson to "confirm" the order. I'm thinking that because I didn't order anything else, my camera was then "backordered". My order also never showed up in my online account with them. When I called them to ask about it, the sales people were rude (one was chewing gum loudly over the phone) and would only repeat that my camera was backordered. When I asked further questions, I would be "transferred" -- which I finally figured out meant they were hanging up on me. I've cancelled my order and I'm calling my credit card company to make sure 86th street cannot attempt any charge.
I should also have checked the BBB online. The BBB notes that 86th Street is not a BBB member and has several complaints against it. Fool me once, shame on me."
"The worst online shopping experience ever! I also trusted LOWPRICEDIGITAL.COM's five star and "Certified Merchant" ratings of 86th Street Photo. I place an order for two cameras, a Canon S5 IS and a Sony DSC T70. The prices were unbelievable! I received and email stating that I needed to call ext. 213 and speak with Jason, before my order could be "processed." I knew what this tactic was and I was furious. I called and waited for about ten minutes and hung up. I began emailing them and Jason called me back. I immediately began telling him that this was all very inconvenient for me and I knew that the purpose of the call was to try to sell me accessories. He laughed and said he was not going to hide that, but was calling to let me know that if I wanted to purchase accessories, he could give me a good deal. I told him if I had wanted to waste time on the phone, I would not have used the internet to place my order, I would have called my order in. I told him I did not want any accessories, I just wanted my cameras. He said he would process my order. However, I immediately received and email stating that my order was on "back order" and would arrive an 3-4 weeks and gave me an option to cancel. I signed on to the website to cancel, and my order was not there. I called and waited five minutes, and someone hung up on me. I called, again, and it sounded like Jason that answered and he told me that my order was on "backorder" for 2-3 weeks. So I canceled. When I placed my order, the site showed the camera in stock. After I canceled my order, the camera is still showing it is in stock. When my order was immediately delayed after declining accessories, I knew it this company was a scam!"
"I ordered this camera as a present for my husband, chose 2nd day air and was sent an email to verify the order. I called the number, and after declining several extras I didn't want or need, I was told it was going to be a little late by about a week, and that 2nd day was not an option for the camera I ordered, but that they would provide free shipping. Not so bad I thought, but after hanging up, I received an email informing me that the camera I ordered was now 3-4 weeks back ordered and here is the phone number to cancel the order. I would not recommend buying from a retailer that advertises merchandise they do not intend to sell without a lot of extras added onto the bill. I had made a previous purchase from this business in the past and that order was fine. However their way of doing business since then has turned to a not very customer oriented one. I personally will not be back, and have told numerous friends not to shop here."
"Same story as all others. I fault myself for not checking them out BEFORE I placed on order. Low price on Canon Powershot S5 that showed "in stock". After I placed online order, got call to confirm information. Talked to "Jason", he tried to sell HIGH-priced add-ons. Said "no thanks". Next email said my order had been "backordered 3-4 weeks." I immediately cancelled my order.
As someone else shared, I trusted the 5-Star rating by LowPriceDigital.com (Big Mistake, not sure if they are involved with 86photovideo, but I don't trust them either.) I know first-hand that 86Photovideo.com is a SCAM. Do not buy from this company. "
"I wanted to echo all the comments about this pit calling themselves 86th Street Photo and Video. On 2/23/08, I purchased an IN STOCK Canon sd870 IS. On 2/26/08, JASON called to confirm my order and to inform me in a very condescending way that I needed to also purchase a new battery since the one that comes with the camera only lasts 10 minutes. After telling him he didn't know what he was talking about, he then threatened to cancel my order. I again told him that the only thing I was going to buy was the g**d*** camera and to put his supervisor on the phone. He said he would not get a supervisor and there may be a problem with my order. I then told him that after talking to him, I could care less about my order. Buy the time I got home, my order was now backordered for 3-4 weeks. Needless to say I cancelled the order. "
"Rip off.
Buy the extra batteries and storage cards or the item goes out of stock.
And waste lots of time on hold waiting to figure that out."
"Here is what to expect from 86th St Store:
1. Amazingly low price on an "in stock" item so you place an order
2. You get an email confirming your order but asking you to call in to clarify credit card info
3. You call, get put on hold for 30 minutes
4. When you get to a person, he uses high pressure tactics to try to get you to buy VERY overpriced accessories
5. You somehow get him to accept no for an answer
6. He hangs up on you
7. Minutes later, you get an e-mail indicating that your item is on back-order for 3-4 weeks
Fantastic. I ordered a Garmin Nuvi 750 for $319 - awesome price! I was very excited. I called 86th St after they requested I do so on email and was atonished at the extreme pushiness and deceptive tactics of the "customer service reporesentative" (read: salesman). He blatantly lied to me and said that the 700 series has absolutely no memory so that the unit cannot recall any previous searches or even where you live without an extra memory card (over $200). He even had some big story about how Garmin changed things because bad weather would corrupt the memory of the unit and they were sick of having to do repairs. I had to turn him down at least five times and finally he literally hung up on me. Minutes later, I get an email saying that my item is on back-order. I called Garmin to verify what he had said about the memory and they said that that was absolutely untrue and that all of their units have memory built in (extra memory optional). I called back and asked to speak to a manager - got a voice mail and left a message. Now that I know that this is their standard M.O., I don't expect a call back. I called back again, after reading these reviews and canceled.
This company is aggressively deceptive and actively attempts to scam buyers by low-balling them with great prices. STAY AWAY!!!! If a price is too good to be true, read reviews on an unbiased site before purchasing!!! Thanks for reading and good luck!!! "
"I placed an order on Friday February 22, 2008. On Monday, February 26, 2008 I received an email stating that I had to call 1 ***-***-**** ext 213 Jason, to verify my shipping details and that I left a number off of my credit card. I call after being on hold for 45 minutes. Shipping information verified, Jason then wants me to purchase a memory disk 1GB for $59.99, which is much more than say Best Buy, Staples, etc. He also told me the battery lasts only 20 minutes and that he can give me a 3 hour battery for $200.00 and that was after a $100 rebate. I politely declined and within 30 seconds received an email stating that my camera is on back order and it should be in-stock within 4-6 weeks and my credit card will not be charged until then. However, the site said it was in-stock!!! Everyone who wrote a review had the same horrible experience. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. It is suspicious that everyone spoke with a Jason at ext 213 and received the same emails. Thank goodness I read these reviews. I reported them to the BBB, the NY Attorney General, and the Internet Crime Center (www.ic3.gov). I suggest all do the same!"
