"Same scam. Great price, ordered online, confirmation email same day 11/24, got call with false info re camera battery & attempt to sell grossly overpriced accessories 11/27, declined, got "begun to process" email same day, then 11/29 got email from ****@**** saying product out of stock but would be available in 5-6 weeks. (Guess the above misspelled - should be slimy). Should have googled them first, there are no 'free lunches.' How do these jerks get product from reputable manufacturers?"
"I guess you can say I have the same story as everyone else. Purchased a canon G9 and an unbelievable price and call to check and see if it was for real. Ordered on line and than checked back twice. You call customer service Ha Ha and they make you wait until some scam artist gets on the line and trys to sell you more than what you want. Oh and if you purchase it now they can get it on the truck today for shipping. Yah right!!! So when I said I just wanted the camera that was ok too, but than received an email that the order would be processed in a couple of days. In a couple of days your recieve a email saying that it's now on back order for 5 to 6 weeks and if you want to continue with the order do nothing but if you want to cancel do this. To make a long story short you know what happens than it just contuines on and on until you cancel the order and they never have to sell the camera at the advertised price. It's all a scam. Be aware and do not purchase from these scam artist. "
"WHAT A SCAM. I should have read everyone's reviews on this merchant before I bought. I ordered a Canon SD870 IS Camera on the phone that was listed at $209. Quite a deal, so I thought. After having to push # to continue to hold for about 10 minutes, I finally reached someone who told me to order over the phone, rather than online, because of the website being backed up. He was nice, and tried to get me to buy the over-priced accessories, which I told him I would get somewhere else. Later that day, I received an e-mail stating that the camera was on a 3-4 week backorder. I called back and was on hold for 30 minutes to make sure that the other color camera was also on backorder, which was bluntly told to me, yes. I decided that the price was worth waiting for, until 3 days later, when I received another e-mail saying that it was temporarily out of stock for 5-6 weeks from the date of that e-mail.
This is when I started reading about the company from reviews online. I saw that they con you into buying the overpriced accesories to make up for the low cost of the camera. If you do, they can call it a bundle and get it to you right away. If you don't, they basically force you to want to cancel your order by saying the camera as an individual sale is out of stock, when they have the camera the whole time, only to sell it as a "bundle".
So, I cancelled my order like the instructions in their e-mail stated, informed my credit card company and proceded to order the camera from a five-star merchant; buydig.com. It shipped with in 2 days and was still a bargin at $309, which included my shipping.
The thing that really set me off about this 86th Street Video is when they sent me another e-mail, after I already cancelled, saying that from the date of the e-mail, it would be another 5-6 weeks for my order, but I already cancelled... which I'm glad I did. I sent back another e-mail in oversized font stating once again to cancel my order and that it was the second time I was doing this. This company is a scam indeed. NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM! I just hope that my personal information hasn't been compromised. BUYERS BEWARE!!!"
"received same treatment as others. Ordered a camera, after phoning to confirm I was told that it was sold out and would be available in 2-3 weeks. then was told it would be available in 5-6 weeks. Called in order to find out why and was told it would be sooner. the next day received yet another mail saying it would be available in 5-6 weeks. Its clear they don't want to sell at that price. I had enough and canceled the deal. a sheer waste ot time, money and phone calls. Keep away!"
"Did not receive any communication even 72 hrs after placing order. Made several phone calls & waited on hold for 30 minutes, before hanging up, on both calls. They say, wait some body will be with you soon, but nobody will pick the phone for hours.
This company uses really cheap online camcorder prices to bait the customers in. I ordered a camcorder, actually on the web they say battery is included but actually the battery is not included. The person try aggressively to sell other products.
Finally, i cancelled the order. Waste of time to deal with these merchant.
They talk very rude.
DONE EVER come to this merchant in life. "
"I called to order the Canon SX100 IS on Wed 11/21 after seeing it on www.86photovideo.com for $204. I spoke with Jason at ext. 231 and he assured me that the camera was in stock and that it could be shipped and received in time for a charity event to be held on 11/27. Jason was very aggressive in trying to sell me accessories for the camera repeatedly, which I declined again and again. He became very rude and short with me and finally I got an order number from him and was hung up upon. Now today 11/26, I call to find out if the camera had shipped, wait on hold for 1 hour and told it is on backorder. When I state the assurances Jason made to me about receiving the order by 11/27, I was told the camera would ship in 2 weeks and then was hung up upon when I tried to cancel the order. I find the company's misleading and aggressive sales procedures deplorable. This company should implement better customer service with less wait time on the phones, better inventory tracking to ensure accurate stock and not least of all better salesperson training to be courtious and helpful. What I really think is that 86th Street Photo and Video advertises deceptively low prices on cameras then tries to force customers to buy the accessories at highly inflated prices to make up for the loss leader. When a customer declines to purchase the exhorbitantly priced accessories, the order item becomes suddenly on backorder with no notice by email or phone. The salesperson hung up on me when I tried to cancel the order that I now have to fulfill with another merchant in order to receive it by tomorrow. I sent an email through thier website to cancel my order. I will call my credit card company and tell them to decline any payment to this company. Then I will forward a discription of my 86th Street Photo experience to all websites that rate online merchants, the BBB, NY Dept. of Commerce and also to Canon."
"Did not receive any communication 48 hrs after placing order. Made 2 phone call & waited on hold for 15 minutes, before hanging up, on both calls. What kind of merchant has NO customer service. Obviously, a merchant who has no intention of delivering customer service. Sent email canceling order.
I WOULDN'T BUY A BAG OF PEANUTS FROM THESE SHYSTERS."
""LOW PRICE TRAPED" Order Canon-SD870 Power shoot. MADE VERY CLEAR WHEN PLACE AN ORDER IF ITEM IS ON BACK ORDER DO NOT PROCESS. but stll they email me that I need to call them for info need, call and on hold for 30-min Mr. Todd come to phone and say you need to buy Extra battery and their price is double than what you can get for so I say all I need camera. ok will process order. still did not get tracking#. So I called again on hold for 30-min than Mr.Todd come on the phone take my order# than he transfer to another guy, again I am on hold for another 15-min, when this guy come on the phone and look at my order and tell me this is on back order. so I ask him did see "INSTRUCTION ON MY ORDER IT SAY'S DO NOT PROCESS IF PRODUCT IS BACK ORDER. this is one of the worest company. please don't do business people who does honor advertize product. "
"Just like what others have commented. I placed the order online on Friday evening. Then I got the email on Monday asking me to call Todd at ext.209 to verify the order. I called back several times and got only his voicemail. I called the store again and press#1 for digital photo department. Just like other people had warned, Mr.Tony asked if I wanted to wait since the canon S5 is back-ordered. Surely, I canceled right away. They really wasted my time and I should have ordered from other place to get the black Friday deal. The store should simply email customers letting them know about it instead of requiring them to call back. Don't ever purchase anything from this store. The price is too good to be true."
"Avoid this seller! I ordered on line and then had to call to confirm. Pressure selling to purchase additional accessories. While on the phone they confirmed that camera was in stock. The next day they emailed that it was out of stock and would be 5 week delay. Now the camera is a "featured" item at $30 greater cost! Avoid!!"
"It's Caveat Emptor with this outfit. I received confirmation of shipment within two to three days. The e-mail told me to call and confirm my order which I did. Immediately told that they would transfer me to shipping so the order would be processed more quickly. Sharkey sales person told me I needed a battery pack (even said that Cannon doesn't recommend that the batteries that come with the camera) and charger $119 on sale for $69. Also needed a sd card $169 on sale for $119. Luckily I was suspicious enough to just cancel my order. This place uses highly unethecal business practices to lure unsuspecting buyers with lowest camera prices only to sell very overpriced accessorties. "
"This is organized crime. They needs to be put out of business ASAP. The principals and employees need to be reported to the attorney general of New York, prosecuted, fined and put away. A lot of hard working, honest Internet merchants will suffer because of 86th Street Photo & Viteo's activities."
"Same story..ordered a Panasonic Lumix at a low price, got talked into buying extremely overpriced accessories. They shipped it out the same day so I couldn't call back and cancel. I didn't recieve the upgraded battery as I ordered. Now I'm scared that I'm never going to get it after reading the reviews. They waaaaayyyy over charged on the memory card. I usually research stuff but got sucked into the low price camera. All the same things happened to me. I'll be calling Todd at extension 209 on Monday to try and get the battery that I bought. I'll never make this same mistake again. Stay away from this company!!!!!"
"I had the same thing happen as everyone else stated. Ordered a product listed below resale value. Thought...WOW...getting a great price. Then received email saying to call for confirmation. They tried to upsell. We said no. Then received email saying on backorder for 2-3 weeks. We waited. Then received another email that it is on backorder for another 5-6 weeks. At that point, I googled the company and found others experienced the exact same thing. Now, what are the chances of that! So, today I cancelled and would like to warn others who decide to wait the 2 weeks out. DON't BOTHER! I am not hoping I don't see a charge from them."
"Same story as eveyone else. I ordered a Canon camera. I did not need the extra overprices items. I got an email to call and confirm the order. I specifically asked at the beginning of the conversation and was told it would ship in 2-3 days. I declined the overprices extras. I received an email within seconds of hanging up that saying it was backordered for 2-3 weeks. Follow up emails told me it was backordered 5-6 weeks. I finally canceled.
Stay away. BTW, got the camera in 2 days from another internet source.
