"Same story as everyone else; no outrageously priced accessories ordered, no core product delivery; first "processing" email comes with order but then you get the email for "2 week" backorder; if you aren't smart enough to cancel at that time, you get the "5-6 week" backorder email to make sure you get the message; incredibly, they must sell enough to stay in business - but they certainly don't deserve it."
"Same story here - they basically confused me into buying a bunch of overpriced accessories I didn't need, then sent my camera in a box without packing it properly, so it arrived broken. My saga with them continues as I now need to get it replaced. DON"T BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE CROOKS!"
"I ordered the camera online. They then contacted me via e-mail telling me I had to "verify" the order. I called and spoke to their representative and went through the standard verification...which of course is already done on the website when you place the order (why companies do this is beyond me!) I was then prodded to purchase the "extended" battery and I explained that I wasn't purchasing any batteries until I knew my wife was happy with the camera that was for her birthday next week....again, they said it was cheaper to buy now, and I explained again, that I understood, but wasn't going to purchase things until I knew she was happy. They then asked if wanted to buy memory sticks. I have all the memory sticks from a previous Sony camera and I knew they do work with this camera, so I did not need to buy more. They said the camera would be processed and shipped today. An hour later I receive an e-mail that with, "This message is regarding your order placed on our website. We regret to infrom you that, unfortunately the item you ordered is on a current 2-3 week backorder, we have not billed your credit card and we will notify you when tracking number is available. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank you, 86th Street Photo & Video." Of course I cancelled the order since I needed it next week for my wife's birthday. How it went from, "Processing and Shipping" to "Backorderd"....sort of makes no sense... I would suggest being vary wary of what happens with them when you place an order...if you elect to. I will never call them again."
"I placed an order online, and when i received an email confirming my order, it had no particulars of my order, so i contacted the company on their 1800. i was told by todd, that i had purchased a lovely camera, and that as a first time shopper, i qualified for a $30 coupon, and that i could use it to purchase some high speed memory which retails for $169. that i was lucky, because they were having a special on it right now, and together with my coupon, i would get it for only $119.00. when i declined and said i only wished to purchase the camera, he informed me that my camera was on its way, and that it would ship today. i would receive it in 2 weeks time. after i hung up, i checked my email, and i noticed i had received an email from 86th street which informed me that my order was on backorder of 2-3 weeks. this was the second time this exact sequence of events had taken place in two days. yesterday this happened to me with a company called techondigital.com. So, a red flag went up, and did a search on google, and found this amazing website. i have just contacted 86th street, and cancelled my order. i have also notified my bank. they are SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! beware. also beware of TECHONDIGITAL.COM, same MO"
"I had a bad experience at 86th Street Photo & Video when ordered digital camera Sony DSC T-200 from their website. This store did not publish Description, Specifications, Included Accessories, and this one allowed the phone representative (from their email, it was 1-***-***-**** Ext. 207 Clark) to manipulate with the price. So, I was told that that camera had a non- rechargeable battery and I had to pay for a rechargeable battery additional price. To my happiness, they delayed my order and I had some time to learn that those cameras arrived with rechargeable batteries; so I just cancel my order. I do not recommend anybody to buy something from this store. It is so awful, you feel that you are deceived"
"Scam...scam...scam!!!! Please do not order from this company. You will never receive your product. I had the same service as the other legitimate posters. These people should, at the very least, be put out of business. Why they are not in jail I do not know. The worst online "purchase" I have ever tried to make.
"
"Same thing happened to me that has happened to many others mentioned here.
I was shopping for a Canon HV20 and found one at this website that was $700 below retail and i am thinking: "Wow! what a bargain"! Nobody else came close to this price and i am thinking again "what a deal i am getting". It seemed like such a great deal and the website led me to believe it was a legit company, with their testimonials, 5 star rating, etc.
I ordered on a friday night and on monday I received e-mail stating i had to call the verification department to complete my order. i did and was asked to buy a lot of overpriced accessories. i refused and asked to just have my camera shipped asap. i was told the camera was on its way and hung up the phone.
i later checked my email and found out that the camera was back ordered for 2-3 weeks. I got suspicious and found this site and realize that it is to good to be true. how can a company be allowed to operate th like this?
i will be canceling my order and alerting my credit card company. STAY AWAY!!"
"Please......I repeat.....PLEASE do not order anything from this company and if you have already, please cancel your order and credit card. This company is fradulent and you will not get anything in the mail. All the reviews that have been posted prior are all true except for the positive ones. I beleive the positive ones are posted by the workers of this fradulent company.
They send you an email and want you to contact them, I refused to contact them and demanded tracking information.... They kept insisting that I contact them, when I didn't they canceled my order.
Pure crap and I beleive that kharma will get the best of them. Also please if you have dealt with this company please report them to the BBB, I have.
Thanks"
"Yep, same story as the rest of the bunch... Found an awesome price on a Sony camcorder, gave my credit card info (it was an https site, so I thought it was legit), and the next day received an email requesting me to call the "Verification department at 1-***-***-**** Ext. 209 Todd so we may verify and complete processing your order." (I now notice that there was nothing about the actual item I ordered in any of the emails I received.) So I call back, get the normal up-sell on the accessories, decline, and get a 7-12 business day backorder spiel. I call back a week later to check the order status, and I'm told it's now on a 2-3 week backorder. In the meantime, I'm still comparing prices online, and find out that many others have had similar "backorder" experiences like mine. Today I called 86th Street Video for a status on backorder -- it's now up to 4-6 weeks. I canceled my order and actually DID receive a cancellation email. But still, just to be safe, I just canceled my credit card.
I still can't believe I got suckered into this!"
"Same thing happened to me that has happened to many others mentioned here. Called because it was the lowest price I could find on a Canon S5. Guy on the phone assured me that they had it in stock. Told me because I was a new customer, I had a $30 credit and would I like to get some accessories. I asked how much for a 1 gig card and the guy said that I really needed a highspeed one and it would be $169, but 139 with the credit. I said no and also said no to a extended warranty. After he took all my information and told me the total with shipping, he said I should receive it in about 7 - 10 days and hung up. I was at my computer and the very second the phone went dead, I received a email stating that my order was on backorder and that it would be 2 - 3 weeks to ship. I have since read the reviews on this site and called to cancel my order.
Avoid at all cost!"
"They won't ship the product I ordered. They say it is on back order though their website shows it in stock. I don't think they will honor theor low price because I would not order their over priced accessories."
"Unless you are willing to buy additional overpriced accessories, your product instantly becomes backordered. This is unethical upselling. The product price is artificially low to get you in, and the web storefront appears very professional, but the business practices are very bad.
Steer clear!"
"I want to thank all of the previous customers who have reviewed this store. You kept me from wasting a lot of my time. I ordered a Canon camera yesterday afternoon. I called the company to make sure they got my order and after waiting on hold for 15 minutes, was hung up on before I could question the service rep about the availability of the camera. That made me suspicious. So I found the store's ratings here at resellersratings.com and read other buyers' comments. I was ready for Steve when I got the email to verify my order with a phone call. Steve told me that my camera did not come with batteries. I said their web site said that it did. He said those batteries were no good. I said they work fine but they aren't rechargeable, and that I was not going to buy any of the high-priced accessories they sold at their website. He said OK and that he would go ahead and send my order in for processing. So I asked if the camera was in stock and he said that it showed that it was. I asked him to please check for me now to make sure. As has happened to others, he then came back on and told me there was a 12 day backorder on the camera. I then asked to have my order canceled. I have received 2 emails since then. The first notified me that the camera was on back order. The second email notified me that my order was indeed canceled. I can only hope that they were not lying when they wrote in the last email that my credit card information had been deleted from their system. I am so glad I didn't waste any more time with this company. Don't bother looking at this vendor's site."
"This company uses really cheap online camera prices to bait the customers in, then attempts to sell them extremely overpriced accessories to make up the difference. If you refuse to buy the accessories, your camera is on backorder for eternity.
I chose to pick up a couple accessories to get the camera I wanted, which was just released and out of stock everywhere else. After everything was said and done, I ended up paying right at retail price for the camera and the accessories I received. However, if I would've bought more accessories, I would've been in the hole bigtime.
The camera I bought retails for $799. I got it for $629 with a few overpriced extras.
As an example, the filters they raved about "retailed for $259" and they were willing to give me the unbeatable price of $159!. When I received them, I plugged the number into google and found them on overstock.com for $22.
$159 - $22 + $629 = $766. Still ahead of retail for the camera.
Next, I opted for the extra battery at $119, found online for $60. I am still waiting on this item to arrive.
$119 - $60 + $766 = $825 for the camera -- just over retail. With free shipping, I call it a wash.
I have had some conversations with customer service that did not go well and I say for certain that I'll never order another thing from 86th Street Photo and Video again. The hassle was simply not worth it. Good customer service would be to simply ship me the items I ordered at the price set online with no hassles.
One final thought: If the battery arrives and is not the mAh that they claim, I'm half tempted to box everything up, ship it back, and refute all charges from that company on my credit card.
The reviews here calling Steve out at extension 203 are probably fakes or customers that fell into his trap. Steve was nothing but a high pressure sales droid to me."
"I will never purchase anything from this place ever again! They are absolutely a scam.
I never recieve my order or invoice, so I call them today requesting status on it.
I was transferred 5 times and had to repeat my order # 4 number times.Customer should not have to be transferred to 5 different people just to find out the status of their order.
The fifth person finally gave me the bad news that my order has been canceled.
I never requested anything to be canceled nor was I told until I call that it was canceled.
If I didn’t make the effort to follow-up on my order I will never have known that my order was cancelled.
The rep. did tell me that that the company will no longer be receiving this product. When were they plan on telling me this?
If this is the case, why do they still advertise this product on the website?
This is very misleading!
I was deceived into thinking that I will receive my product at the given time.
