"If you're an early adopter of PC technologies, you can be frustrated by not being able to get the latest and greatest -- or you can call AVADirect.

They know the manufacturers, they know the hardware, and they're already working on how to put things together when other vendors are still wondering if they should try it.

When I was looking for a dual Xeon x5680 super workstation last month, I trudged through several boutique builder websites and couldn't find anything approaching what I needed. I called a couple and was politely told "no, we can't do that."

Finally saw AVADirect during a Google search, hit their configurator, and thought I had a pretty good system laid out. Joe Mundy, one of the sales reps spotted a potential problem and called me to see what I really needed. A few days later, they were laying those x5680s onto an EVGA Classified SR2.

Hats off to Misha Troshin and Eugene Ploschanskiy in the tech area -- these guys did a superb job on the system and treated me like their only customer whenever I asked questions about the build.

"It's a pleasure for me to report my experience with getting a new desktop PC from AVA Direct. The bottom line is that I highly recommend them. They were easy to order from, professional and courteous in their interacting with me and my questions, and produced the best-built computer I've ever bought or built myself. To be able to exactly specify the manufacturer and model of each component is invaluable, and AVA put those parts together into a very well built system, with meticulous cable routing, assembly, etc. Their service after the sale has been flawless as well--very attentive and quick, and they do an unusual amount of communication and record-keeping. Some buyers who are ultra-itching to get their new system and somewhat impatient might not appreciate the extra time that I think AVA takes to build and test their systems, but doing that well is what it's all about and what I want.

"I chose Avadirect because of their stellar ratings here and on BBB. Overall, I'd say Avadirect builds great rigs and honestly cares about their customers. That doesn't necessarily mean your rig will be perfect upon receipt, though. Let me give my thoughts on the good and the bad.

The Good.
1. The company and its people really do seem to care about making sure you have a great computer and experience. I had direct lines to folks, Eugene offered to have a tech stop by my house if a particular issue wasn't resolved, and I felt like at least during EST business hours I could always get a live human who knew their stuff. Sales has contacted me after the tech fixes to make sure everything works, which is amazing.

2. Techs know their stuff. If you have a problem, they can fix it.

3. The computer is fast and awesome.

4. The testing before you get your computer is serious and they keep you apprised of the status. For instance, one of my USB ports was bad during testing, I was notified, the part was fixed before shipping.

The Bad.

1. Avadirect tech support is only available from 10AM to 6PM EST Monday through Friday. If you aren't on EST time and have a regular job, this can make it a real challenge. Eugene, the tech that worked with me, told me they are trying to get to 24-hour, which would be a huge help.

2. Custom-built computers may still have glitches. My computer started up just fine the first time; then I could not load. When I could work out a system recovery with Eugene, it turned out that my HDD had issues and needed to be reformatted. I can't currently use the Windows Backup program because the System Reserve isn't large enough (but that may be Microsoft's fault). In any event, my computer required some tweaking. Eugene was very responsive and responsible on this.

3. Avadirect sales requires your delivery location match precisely the information your card. If you are delivering to a different location, this can be a hassle, but I understand the security need for it.

"Build and packing quality was excellent. Prices were as good or better than anyplace else (and in some cases, as good as buying the parts independently). They caught a RAM hardware problem in testing, and notified me about it. They said to expect a possible delay, but were able to ship on time. But the best part of all was that I finally didn't have to bleed on my computer to get it working - normally it's Little Shop of Horrors around here when I build a new box. Kudos to the builder for crafting a solid machine.

The only complaint I had concerned order tracking. Basically, the state of "processing" was a little opaque for my tastes - what stage of processing was it in? However, they're apparently addressing this problem (plans are underway, or it's in the "processing" stage :)).

This is why I'd be happy to shop there again. No stupid fees, no feeling like they're trying to cheat you (which, incidentally, is hard to do online these days...why do some retailers try to get away with it?). Just a good product at a good price, with real people who make sure your needs as a customer are met. "

"Three words....very professional job. I have worked in IT for years and have seen many many computers in my day. AVA Direct did an awesome job in building out my desktop pc. All of the wiring was routed well and cable tied, all parts were snug and correctly installed and it was exactly what I ordered. Can't ask for much more than that! The only thing that they missed was plugging in my SATA 3 drive to the incorrect sata port on the motherboard. (They plugged it into a sata 2 port.) Other than that, they did a great job on my custom machine. Bottom line: I would (and already have) recommended them to anyone looking to build out a custom machine. Fair prices and a quality build have sold me on this company!"

I am very happy with my purchase, and with the progress updates that I received throughout the building of my system. My only real suggestion for improvement (and I know that it is rather unrealistic, but what the heck) is to add additional checks for various configurations. My initial build included a graphics card that was too long for the case I had selected, and I was made aware of this fact several days after placing the order. It would be great if these kind of checks could be included in the selection process, especially concerning more important issues such as heating and power. "

Replies from customer service and tech support are almost immediate and thorough - that's how you distinguish responsible company. Response to additional requirements, requests or changes to the system configuration are also swift and done in very friendly and professional manner - tech personnel is very agile, quick and to the point. RMA for failed HDD was offered without any hesitation and sent immediately after receiving from manufacturer. Build quality is bulletproof and extremely neat from cabling to HDDs placement.Packaging is extremely well done and can withstand any rough handling from courier, which became such a common thing nowadays. As for the website though, it would be nice to be alerted in case of choosing an incompatible component(s) during customization. Overall feeling is that AVADIRECT is the company to do business with and I would recommend it highly to anyone who wants to build high quality system for unbeatable price.
