"Final update. I received the camera and lens as promised. I only wish I did not have to go through all of the back and forth with Abe's of Maine.
AFTER I posted this review below, I received a call from Abe's of Maine promising to fulfill my order at the price I originally sought, with a fully warrantied camera AND an upgraded lens. So, CONTINGENT on receiving this order, I am revising my rating. I will update this review again once I have received my order. As of this writing, I have only the verbal commitment of the gentleman who called me - no confirmation email yet.

Bait and switch. Ordered a camera off the website only to receive a phone call a week later saying the model I ordered was an "import" and "no instructions in English" and "no warranty" etc etc you get the idea. Wanted me to buy the non-import for ~ $200 more. Will NEVER shop these guys again."

"EDIT: After posting this review I received two calls, one from the original representative and the other from a gentleman named Frank. Joe told me that he had put me on hold, something I must have missed and am giving him the benefit of the doubt over, rather than hanging up on me. I do appreciate the call-back and the apology, perhaps I was a bit judgmental at first. Frank was very kind and offered me a free 3 year warranty on the D800 I'm purchasing from B&H Photo.
At first I was QUITE scared that I had been scammed, enough so to cancel everything at my bank and write this review. It would seem the volume of sales their contributed to the long wait time. After the response I received from the review I posted they do at least seem to care for the value of their reputation.

STAY AWAY FROM ABE'S OF MAINE.
Ordered a Nikon D800 this morning, found out after purchase it was a foreign import. Called customer service, after a VERY long wait I was transferred to a guy named Joe. I explained the situation and asked how much the US version would be. First he said 2999, 1400 more than the price I paid. Then he said 2499, when I said I wasn't looking to be spending over 2 grand he told me I should just get a D750, which is not what I had chosen explicitly. After that he hung up on me and I was not able to reconnect with them again... EVEN AFTER 3 HOURS ON HOLD.
DO NOT BUY FROM THESE SCAM ARTISTS.
Luckily for me I made the transaction this morning and figured this out before the transaction was even pending. Went to my bank, explained the situation, stopped payment and had my card changed. I will be contacting the BBB and will write as many reviews as possible anywhere possible to stop these horrible people."
