"This is my second experience with Abe's of Maine, and I will not do business with them again.
Their approach is to have the LOWEST PRICE but only because they will hard sell you worthless add-ons and in fact you can't get the price unless you buy these. They will not ship until you call and talk to the sales department. And its all the worst used car salesmen tactics (let me put you on hold to talk with my manager and get you a better deal).
I ordered a 65" Panasonic plasma TV, and knowing their tactics, just said I didn't want the add-ons (wall-mounting rack, extended warranty). Just send me the TV. Well, the "free shipping" doesn't include insurance and they refused to ship it without insurance. How much is insurance? Oh 5% of the price of the TV, in this case more than $300. In what world is that free shipping? So I canceled my order on the spot.
Final word of warning: The add-ons seem tempting because they are things you need. However, they are low quality and worthless. My first purchase from Abes a few years ago was for a LCD projector. I purchased the protective case offered for an additional $100. The case was made of thin cardboard and I found the same one elsewhere for $14.99. They gave me trouble about returning it until I said I was calling Amex and refusing the charges on my credit card.
BEWARE Abe's of Maine."
"First off, I want to say I got a great TV at a great price. I purchased the Samsung UN55F7100. TV was shipped fast and packed well. But I will still never shop at Abe's again because of their cheap used car sales tactics. Alfred started off by being nice and friendly making sure I ordered the right TV and that billing and shipping info was correct, but then offered me standing shipping and then suggested UPS 2 day air. I declined, but then he told me I HAVE to purchased freight insurance which was like 9% I believe. I told him nowhere on the site did it mention that and he said it was on there, which was a lie. I then told him to cancel my order several times and that I refused to pay anything over the original price. He finally gave in and pretended that he had to ask his manager if he could send the TV without me purchasing the insurance and he agreed. So my advice to you is refuse the order no matter how pushy or smooth they try to be. "
"This is my first time I bought an item online, I brought Samsung 60 Inch Television, TV was delivered on time. However I had issues with trucking company, when I wrote to Abes of Maine.
Jason from Customer Service spoke to me and resolved all my concerns, They promptly called me back, and resolved the issue.
I would definitely consider them in my next online shopping.
Sincerely.

"Abe's of Maine has an easy website to use best prices and fast shipping. thank you for helping me find the perfect gift for the holidays. i bought the sl1 camera and got a free 16gb memory card."
"jjust bought the samsung f8000, got it 3 days later very happy witht he service , tv came in perfect condition. thank you abes."
"
ABE'S OF MAINE has been my "go to first" internet store for years. Never, ever had a single disappointment! Always top notch service.
This time, they exceeded my expectations. Roy took my call and took an extra 20 minutes of his time figuring out a very complicated delivery plan. Thanks to some flexibility in White Glove Delivery, all worked out. If you want some "Pease of Mind"--White Glove is the way to go.

"Smoking Gun on Abe's
I read several of the critical Reseller Ratings before ordering a $2000 TV from Abe's. Specifically Cameron200's recent experience posted Sept 12, 2013 where he was contacted after the sale and was shaken down for a couple hundred extra dollars in order to get his TV (the exact same TV I wanted). But then Abe's (upon seeing his not-so-happy Reseller Rating online, I believe) refunded his arm-twisted money and even upgraded him to "white glove" delivery. I was convinced that with SO many positive reviews posted, and this specific review for the very TV I wanted, that I would be okay…and I surely wanted to save several hundred dollars the Authorized Samsung dealers were charging.
Well, here's the bottom line: Abe's does not sell for the price they advertise. They will contact you about buying high-margin extras (TV mounts, cables, speakers, insurance policies, etc.) and if you don't bite for any of these, then they hit you with the "mandatory insurance" cost which was quoted to me as $229. What mandatory insurance cost you many ask?…well, here is what their fine print reads: "Due to the delicate nature of certain products you may be contacted for additional freight or insurance charges."
You might say to yourself, "okay, but it's Still cheaper than from an Autororized Dealer; but based on my reading, I'm convinced you are likely to NOT receive a truly new TV, but instead a refurbished or repaired unit, and because you have not bought it from an authorized dealer, your options for getting your TV fixed in the event of a problem is…a problem!
Don't take my word for it, here is the "smoking gun" NBC report on Abe's" http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/how-avoid-online-hdtv-shopping-scams-742267
In all fairness to Abe's, I believe all the other unauthorized electronic discounters out there play the same games. None of them have a qualm about lying to you, so you can't trust you are actually getting what you Think you are getting. I love saving money as well as the next guy, but I don't like rewarding unethical, dishonest people. I ended up ordering from a reputable on-line retailer."
"Typical bait-and-switch. Free shipping is clearly advertised on their web site, but "Ted" will refuse to ship the TV unless you purchase the freight insurance, which is 9%. There is no disclaimer anywhere on the page showing the item, which makes it false advertisement. Needless to say, I won't be shopping there again."
"I recently bought a 55" Panasonic VT60 TV from Abe's. After reading all the bad reviews on sites such as this one I was a bit wary but the price was unbeatable so I decided to go for it anyway. I made the call 2013-09-17.
Since I already knew (from these forums) that they would charge extra for insurance, I just asked up front to avoid the additional call back. I was told the minimum insurance cost was $149 and the 'white glove' shipping was $169. The difference ($20) was much less than I thought so I went for the white glove. By the way, I'm only 55 miles from Abe's in NY. They said the insurance would depend on my zip code.
The rep asked if I wanted any HDMI cables or other accessories. I said no and he left it at that, no pressure.
We discussed the free wall mount or the $100 restaurant card. I was not too big on the restaurant card so I decided to go for the wall mount and he upgraded me to one that supposedly holds the TV closer to the wall (3") compared to the standard free mount. I did no research on this so I'm not sure if I got a good wall mount. It's called a TUFF MOUNT.
Then came the hard sell on the warranty. I listened politely but said no in the end. He attempted to sell me the warranty about three times. Yes, this is annoying but I've been in big box stores where they are just as bad.
I handed over my credit card info, received a confirmation number, and was told I would get a tracking number probably the next morning. This is where I had a problem. For the next week I did not receive a tracking number. I called back and they told me the TV was picked up on 2013-09-18 (the day after the order). They also told me that because I had used the white glove shipping, there was no tracking number since it was a private company. The CSR gave me the phone number of the shipping company to arrange a pick up. She also told me she'd email me an invoice but I never got this.
I called the shipping company -- no answer -- and left a message. I called back a few more times over the next couple of days with no answer and finally got a hold of the company on 2013-09-27. They said they would call me a day before delivery and I would get it on the 10-01 or 10-02. As promised, I got the call and received the TV on 2013-10-02. I'm not sure why it took two weeks to drive 55 miles, especially if they picked up the TV the day after I ordered it but technically it was still delivered within 7-10 business days. Note that I had to come home early from work for the delivery. The guy (yes, just one guy with a fridge cart) was a little scared to bring the TV up a flight of stairs to may apartment but I gave him a hand and got the massive box to its final destination.
At the end of the day, I got a great TV for a great price with some hassles and uncertainty around shipping. "
"Ordered a 60' Samsung television. The interaction with Ted was very pleasant. I wound up getting white glove delivery - the reality being that even with this $250 upgrade, I still saved over $700 on the television. All in, my television was $2300 while Amazon.com was selling it for $3000, including tax and delivery. Additionally, two guys literally did all the work for me, came in, removed the television from the box, mounted it on its stand, and plugged it in so I can review for any potential damage. The television was completely brand new, never used, never opened. I was VERY pleased. Look, there is a bit of sales pressure to add on items and to upgrade delivery. As I mentioned, Ted is very pleasant to talk to. If you're interested in saving tons of money, grow a pair and deal with it...it's a part of the process and I was more than happy to participate in order to save $700...this is not a charity. One thing I would suggest to Abe's is to be more open and clear about "free delivery" - for example, clearly state that free delivery doesn't include insurance, which is required. People get upset because their expectations aren't met...what I'm seeing with Abe's is a case where shoppers have an expectation of completely free delivery and get upset when they realize that they have to pay more for something (e.g. insurance). Simply state that there will be an additional charge for insurance so people know what to expect! I think this will solve most of Abe's image issues."
"Abe's of Maine is great and so is their customer support. Jason S. really helped me out! I have a Canon DSLR T3i that came from Abe's of Maine with a Nikura memory card. I received the camera, card, and bag as a gift and they had the purchase on record. The SD card had become corrupted and I had not used the card much at all. I called customer support at Abe's of Maine and Jason said he would be able to send me a replacement 16GB SD card. That's customer support! Finally a company that really takes care of their customers. I'd definitely recommend them to my friends."
"The shopping experience was great with Abe's of Maine. The website was very easy to use, and displayed all relevant information about the tv (Samsung UN65F8000) that I purchased. Alfred from the Abe's of Maine team reached out to me to discuss the order and was very helpful in explaining when I would receive my tv. The order was promptly processed and shipped out immediately. Will use the company again for further electronic purchases!"
"Ordered a 60" TV Samsung from Ab's. Ted twisted my arm to pay $50 more for freight even though they advertised for FREE. Anyway after placing the order, next day I came across a the same model Samsung from Samsung.com, $100 cheaper. I called to cancelled order, but they refused to. They claimed the unit had been shipped, but I never got any correspondence from their freight company that it had. As a matter of fact the movement process was on their website showing the order was at their warehouse and not on any truck. Anyway they fought me for over a week not giving me my refund. I finally had to give in and pay them that $50 special freight fee inorder to get some closure. You know whenever I talk to someone from this part of the country I'm often concerned of a scam. These employees Adi & Ted of Abe's are not from Maine but from NJ. Abe's will rope you in cheap prices then people like Ted will take over and pressure you to spend $$ more on cable, etc and this special freight. Note the first time the freight cost was $100. He dropped it to $50 after I didn't agree. He wouldn't take no for a answer. Anyone reading this, JUST be aware once you order from them they will jump in and they flim-flam you in perhaps selling you accessories, you may not need. REMEMBER Ted will not give in to your no's."
"Do your self a favor and don't order from these guys.
Ordered my Nikon D800. 3 days later a salesman called and informed me the camera as priced was not USA warrantied. Okay so 250 dollars later we had a USA Camera ordered and I paid for the extra fast shipping thinking I would received the camera 3 days later. He also tried to sale me up on accessories but luckily I did not fall for it. I got an email saying it was in the process. My charge card was charged 9-4-13. On 9-16-13 I called them to see where the order was. They said they canceled it because it was not in stock. No email or phone call to tell me this. Tracking on the email was a joke. It just said sent to warehouse. What ever that means! They said my card was credited on 9-12-13 but as of 9-16-13 no credit. Abe's said it was going to be 4 to 5 days to credit. They have been sitting on my 2,800 and drawing interest on it while I waited on something that was never going to show up. Do not buy from them they are not truthful.
Dennie"
"Purchased a Nikon D5200 from Abes of Maine. The price was really really low so I was a bit skeptical on ordering. After doing some research on google about Abes turned out to be they had really great review so I decided to give them a shot. Turned out to be a really great experience with them. The service was great and speaking to Jay at customer service was really easy and helpful. I will 100% be back from more camera equipment. Keep up the good work"
