""Abes of Maine is my number 1 retailer for all televisions. Purchased a 60vt60 from them at a really good price and service was an A+ and the delivery was pretty quick and smooth""
"I am recommending Abe's of Maine
as a very good store. My fiancee' was following an Auto CAD course and she needed a computer.I had enough money to buy a computer for her,but I needed a trusted place to buy it.These days there are lot of cheap sellers all around the world. So I had to ask from my friends for a trusted seller. One of my friend told me about Abe's of Maine. He said me that he had few deals with them before.
I decided that "Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z 3311B1U" was the best computer for her because she was working with Auto CAD.It had lots of features she needed. The price was $1042.99.I thought that it was a fair price for that computer. So I ordered it.I used PayPal to pay them.So I could make the payment easily.
Order came on the date promised and was correct. My fiancee' now has a wonderful computer that works so well for her.
It was a great experience.I've recommended them to others.Don't be afraid to make a deal with them."
"Free shipping does not mean free shipping for TVs with this company. They will contact you and tell you that you need to pay for additional "mandatory" insurance, which was 6% for me. Nowhere during checkout is this mentioned - you have to click on the small additional shipping details link to find out that free does not equal free. This was after the unpleasant upselling attempt to get me to buy a wall mount that would only be $200 after a $100 credit. I told him if he wouldn't give me the TV for the price on my invoice to cancel the order. At this point he canceled the order.
I will not deal with this company again."
"Trouble! I bought a Sigma 17-50 F2.8 EX D lens from Abe’s of Maine and then exchanged to for another sample. The second lens displayed even more pronounced and server auto- focusing problem. What is more troubling is that it clearly looked like this lens was previously returned to Abe’s of Maine by someone else for this malfunction and then resold to me as NEW. It is evidenced by the disheveled and obviously used manual, attached lens hood and zoom lock not engaged. Sigma confirmed that the hood is always removed and packaged into a separate plastic bag, not attached to the lens for shipping. They also they confirmed that all new 17-50 F2.8 lens always ship with the zoom lock on. Abe’s of Maine agreed to issue a full refund, however. Will see how long it will take them. Shop at your own risk at Abe’s of Maine. I would not!"
"I ordered a LG-55LA8600 LED TV. Even though it said free shipping, I got an order confirmation call after placing an order. They added $150 which included special FedEx delivery, insurance and free wall mount (which I really didn’t need it). Because of the package size and for safety reason I agreed for special delivery and insurance.
But the special delivery turned out to be a nightmare. The package was not delivered at my home. It was delivered to our leasing office. I got an unwelcome call from the leasing office to pick-up the package. When I went there more bad news was in store. The package was in very bad shape. One side of the package was damaged severely. It torn in several spots and one of it is about 8 to 9 inch opening, as if somebody punched it. Other side too had some torn spots. I had to wait till my neighbor come back from work and with his help I moved the package to my home (about 300 yards). When I inspected the package in detail there was a label it said something like do not sign for package if it was damaged and call Abe’s customer support immediately. First thing I checked was FedEx tracking to find out who signed for package. Status said “Delivered - Signature service not requested”. I called in the Abe’s customer support immediately and left the voice message. Next morning I called them back to check on their response. The agent sounded like more concerned. He asked me to open the box and check the TV screen and the function. He also assured the TV is covered under insurance and will be replaced if damaged. When I asked about the special delivery, he blamed it on FedEx driver. He said all their shipments, always required signature proof.
When unboxed, the TV was in good shape and worked fine. They refunded $150 shipping and insurance charges.

"7/7/2013: Hoping to Get Lucky. (I live in Arizona and I am NOT an associate of Abe's of Maine)
I am going to make this review to hopefully show everyone on how well Abe's of Maine has changed from a mediocre company to what I believe is a good company that lives up to their BBB rating of A+. It is after reading the recent accolades by customer service and good reviews (by TheDonald8210, Sony_Man, hughsheehy) on this website that I decided to give Abe's of Main another chance. I will respect them (even though I have had a close friend of mine (an attorney) who had trouble with them in the past).
I just purchased a Sony HX850 from their website using Paypal. It is Sunday night over here. I am expecting that "special" call from a sales person sometime Monday on up-selling me the shipping and warranty.
As I have discussed with my friends on yelp and several other Audio/Video websites, it is the responsibility of the vendor to send products that are NOT defective. According to Abe's of Maine, this product is supposed to ship in 5-7 business days on FREE shipping, no added cost. On their website, it says NOT to sign the delivery off until you inspect the TV and find it to be free of defects (http://www.abesofmaine.com/support.do#17). If they advertised that FREE SHIPPING option, I expect them to live up to it and deliver something that is not defected as advertised.
When I get "the call," I am going to respectfully decline the extended warranty and the Ground Truck White Glove. I will be courteous and respect the customer service representatives throughout this experience on my end.
I will update everyone on when I get the product and the condition it is in. I will NOT sign off on the product or let the delivery guy leave until I boot up the TV and check to see if it is working in perfect condition, free of defects.
The rating as of now is five star because I have no issues. The TV I wanted was in stock online and the price at which it is sold at is VERY appealing. However if my experience goes down, the stars will go down as well. If my experience is excellent, I will be advertising Abe's of Maine to everyone I know and more business to them!
Update 7/8/2013.
I got the call from sales associate, Larry Tate. Larry so far is a good guy. He is respectable, he is not pushy as described by other users that have used Abe's and talked to sales guys. This TV is a gift for a friend and Larry is offering me a 5 year warranty deal for students that is worth 13.91% the cost of the TV so I had to think twice on the warranty. I asked my friend anonymously (since it is a gift) about TV warranties and whether he believed in them or would ever be interested in them. My friend told me he has always bought warranty for a lot of his products but he never had to use it. So I called Larry back to let him know that I was not interested in the warranty, as good as it sounds. We then talked about shipping. Larry gave me a deal that allowed FedEx to ship the product to me but also allow me to inspect the product upon arrival...if defective, not sign for it and send it back. In addition to this if in the next 7 days after receiving the product, I find it defective, I can always call and return for money back or exchange. This cost me about $124 and since this final total price was still cheaper than the price I have seen this TV for, especially with the insurance assuring me of being able to analyze the product for 7 days, I went for it.
7/9/2013:
I emailed Larry today and asked him on the progress of my order. I was emailed back by another Abe of Maine associate, Mike S., with information that my order had shipped today and that I would receive a tracking number by the end of the day. I did receive the tracking number and it said my order should be here by 07/15/2013! So I am going to be on a hiatus over here until I receive the product! Will keep you posted!
7/15/2013.
I received my package today. Everything was in one piece. The box was VERY minimally dented but nothing to worry about at all. It arrived late evening. I opened everything up and set up the TV. I realized that the TV had a small dent on the back but it was so small it was barely noticeable. I can say YES, buy a TV from Abe's. I got my product, running it right now, it is working in top condition. I have nothing to worry about and I appreciate the people that helped me, Larry with Sales and Mike with Shipping. If you get a chance, work with these two, they will get your product shipped out ASAP and to you ASAP. I could have gotten the product Friday last week but Fedex messed up but I am satisfied and cannot complain. GO Abe's and THANKS A LOT!
Mike, out!"
"I just ordered a Cannon SX260 camera from Abes of Maine and spoke to Roy Rivers. He was helpful and was able to meet the lower price of an online competitor. I have previously ordered from Abes and found them to be very reputable.
I always try to do business with companies that treat me well and Abes and Roy have done it again.
Thank you."
"Abe's of Maine is OK by me. They went out of their way to help me decide about the right camera for me and gave straightforward good and accurate advice. I was in a time crunch because I was leaving for an overseas trip and needed things quickly. I got everything in time because of their courteous and efficient cooperation. I love my Lumix FZ200. I just returned from India and I have great pictures.
I will be happy to do business with Abe's again."
"Abe's of Maine had the lowest price on this item HDR-PJ790V. Ordered it on Thursday. Received a call from them on Friday offering batteries and extended warranty. Politely declined all of them. The camcorder was shipped on the same day and received on Monday noon.
Although this camcorder is made in China, was little bit skeptic but turned out to be excellently made. Much better than the previous HDR-SR12 in all aspects. This one is a keeper. Way to go Abe for super quick shipping."
"Cancelled my order after 3 weeks, Did not contact me, I noticed a refund to my account and had to contact them to figure out what happened. "
"customer service apparently does read this blog :)
thank you customer service for stepping in and doing the right thing. AoM upgraded my delivery for free, no hidden extra cost for insurance.
ABES OF MAINE has redeemed their credibility with me again :)
AoM is very misleading with their prices. i tried to buy a tv until a was strong armed by some sales rep calling me to confirm my order.
FREE shipping to Abes apparently means they want you to pay 100 dollars for shipping insurance. WTF is that? no where does it say that!!
I purposely buy things on the internet so I don't have to be bothered by salesmen.
If i wanted to buy an extended warranty, i would.
If i wanted to buy a wall mount , i would
If i wanted to buy cables, i would
the salesmen kept calling me back because he said he had a better deal.
all i wanted was the tv for the price advertised on their website."
"Ok. I was sure I was going to get screwed by Abe's after reading some of the negative reviews about this store online. I ordered two SDHC cards. Price was the lowest I could find... almost to the point of suspicion. I was so sure I was going to get screwed that I even called to cancel my order on Monday morning (I placed the order on Saturday). When I called, I was told the order had already shipped. I'd not been notified via email, so I assumed I'd been lied to in order to keep me from canceling, but I decided to give it a few days just to be sure. Low and behold, on Friday, I get a padded envelope in the mail. It's from Abe's, and inside are the SDHC cards I'd ordered. Aside from the lack of communication (no shipping notification; no tracking number), my experience with Abe's was as smooth as could be. Good price. No upsell. Fast shipping. Throw one positive review on the wagon to counteract some of the negatives."
"I ordered a new TV through Abe's Of Maine. When I ordered the TV the site said free shipping, I thought that was great. Later I receive a call from one of their representatives stating that I needed to pay an insurance fee for the shipping, which I was not expecting. Be aware of this, it was an additional $100 to the cost of my TV, but if I had read their site correctly this is a standard thing. They also try to offer an extended warranty that I did purchase (have not seen it yet because it is a direct from manufacturer warranty - may comment on this later).
Their site also talks about matching a price drop from their website. Found the TV on their own website 1 week after I received the TV and after a call and another email their fantastic service department took care of the issue (hopefully - This is being written before receiving any credit).
Also I was not very excited about White Glove Delivery. If I had known that it was someone setting down the box in my living room and cutting open the box and that is it, I may not have spent the extra money on it but everything did get to me in great condition and in a timely manner. Also if I had read the description on the website and understood what the White Glove meant I may not have had any issue with the delivery at all.
I am very impressed by their customer service and willingness to try to understand the customers needs, worries and frustrations. They have probably been one of the easiest customer services to deal with and willing to keep you as a customer. I cannot say that for many other places that I order from online.
Overall, I felt like I got a great item for a great price and I will definitely shop through Abe's of Maine again.
---------------------------------------------------------------
This is an update after receiving my new TV.
I love this TV! However I did receive the upsell on the warranty. I was told however that the extended warranty was through the Manufacturer of the TV (Samsung) for 5 years. I was assured that the warranty wasn't third party and the cost of the warranty was so good because Abes of Maine was an authorized retailer for Samsung. Also, I was told if the warranty wasn't used in the 5 years I would probably get a call from Samsung trying to sell me another TV but I would also receive half of the cost of my warranty back!! That sounded like a deal I couldn't pass up for peace of mind. After some issues I had with other things I asked the customer service about my warranty and was told that it was supposed to be mailed to me. Waited, waited, and then called Abes of Maine back... I was told that there was an extended warranty on this TV and was sent a policy number and a link via email. When I opened up the email the warranty was with a company called New Leaf?? That doesn't sound like Samsung. Also the website for the company is almost useless to navigate to see what my warranty is and for how long. I also don't see anything telling me that I receive half of the cost of my warranty back after the 5 years is up.
Be very careful of these upsales. I don't even know what this third party warranty is or have any copy of what Abes of Maine signed me up for. I am very disappointed in this. I love the product but the hassle of ensuring everything is exactly how the salesperson describes it way too much. I probably would have been better off ordering from someone else. Some other online retailer will have my future business."
"Alfred gave me a fantastic deal on the 64F8500, and the deal totally made my day. In addition, I also purchased the white glove for the TV and that honestly made me extremely happy. The overall experience here was utterly phenomenal, and highly satisfying on virtually all levels. Easy, safe, and fast for sure."
"Ordered all my appliances for my new kitchen from Abes. Everything was in stock and ready to ship. Better prices than competitors and delivered promptly. Would definitely shop here again."
