"I ordered a motherboard and a processor from them. they gave me the run around when calling up to ask of the status of the order. they gave me excuses to why my order was not sent out. they told me my money order had to be "cleared" which is not true. the truth finally came out, which was that they did not have the item in stock. the phone support was horrible, the person could not speak english very well, and was hard to understand. my order was finally shipped after almost 3 weeks of waiting and calling up frustrated. they did not update their website so that i could check the status of my order, and the UPS tracking order number was emailed the day before it was supposed to arrive. (bit too late) overall my experience with them is bad, and i will never buy from them again. i'm just glad the parts were not defective, as i have heard they are NOT good with returns (ie. very shady company) they have changed the name of their company over 3 times to avoid having to pay customers. this company should not be in business. stay clear of these guys."

"don't buy from this company. They are con artists.

my step daughter ordered one of their $139 barebones systems. The PC came unassembled, so we had a 'tech guy' from our local computer store put the computer together for us since we had no idea how. He wasn't able to get a display on the monitor. we tried swapping video cards, agp, pci cards, swapping memory and processors, nothing worked. So the tech guy told us to send it back to accubyte for repair.

so we did.. They said they would assemble it for us and fix any problems and test it for $39.
so we agreed. we sent in the PC. They charged us $20 on top of that to return it to us.
When we got it back, the PC was NOT assembled like we paid for. I mean, the heatsink wasn't put on or plugged in, the USB headers weren't plugged in, the main power to the motherboard wasn't plugged in, and the heatsink and processor were just laying inside the case.. I was suprised it didn't crack the board during shipping.

anyway, I tried to call them on the phone about it. they put me on hold for 4 hours, then gave me a message saying they were closed. so I wrote requesting an RMA number and put in 'defective processor and motherboard'
they asked for more information, and said that it worked when they tested it. So I called them on the phone again and after about an hour waiting, I went to the restroom while my wife waited on hold. when I came out, my wife was crying. I asked her what was wrong, and I heard the sales rep yelling at my wife and being rude to her about the PC.. I immediately grabbed the phone and tried to talk to the man. then he kept calling me stupid for not finding some sort of tracking number on the website. instead of being nice to me, he was extremely rude, and this is no lie. my wife cried the rest of the night about that, and trust me thats the first time I've ever seen her in tears like that..

anyway, not only did I never recieve the RMA number, even after filing a complaint with the BBB with no response, but I never got a refund for the PC.. I paid altogether, $272 to these ripoff artists, for a $139 computer, and all I got out of the deal was a large paperweight that they refuse to do anything about. Then by the time they did try to issue me an RMA number, they said they couldn't because it had been past the 15 day warranty period.. even though it was defective from the very first shipment of the order.

they lie, they cheat, they are rude to ladies.

you do not want to shop there. ever..
trust me on this one.
I have shopped many different places before encountering all kinds of problems, but nothing even close to this.. and I think I have a valid complaint. I mean if you paid someone $39 to have a PC assembled, would you be upset if it wasn't? and to be rude about it on the phone and purposely make your wife cry while she is helping you wait on the phone while you go to the restroom. I mean thats pretty low to do that to a customer.

I'm sorry, but I give them a -100 out of 10.
the worst company ever. and I hope they get shut down for their illegal activities.

"Hello,

Be very carful of these guys, this company has a number of different names, they have very bad customer service so they have to keep changing their names,so they can keep taking advantage of everyone. they use ACCUBYTE, ECONO PC, and the third one that I know of is PRIME SOURCE COMPUTER. There may be others and if there are please post them so everone know to stay away from these guys

"These people are the worst !!! I purchased a AMD XP + 3000 with a 400 mhz FSB for $249.00 from these people and they sent me the one with the 333 mhz FSB. When I told them they sent the wrong one they told me to send it back with insurance through UPS which cost $18.00.? Then they told me that I would have to pay for the return too. I DIDN'T MAKE THE MISTAKE WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.???? What a rip ! BUYER BEWARE, ALL THE FEEDBACK IS TRUE don't do business with Accubyte !!! "

"Accubyte shipped me a motherboard with a bad processor on it. I received it just before Christmas and was gone for a few days for the holidays. I called them when I returned and was told that I did inform them that the board was bad within their 15 day return period. I pointed out to them that their website and the printed agreement that shipped with the motherboard both said I had "twenty (20)" days to return it. When I pointed this out they claimed it was really 15 days even though I had a printed copy in front of me. I was told a manager would call me back the next day; he never did. When I called again, I was told the same as before about the number of days. Checking the website showed they had updated their agreement to say "twenty (15) days" -- yes, two different numbers. After four days of argueing the point that I had called within 20 days as stated on my receipt, the "manager" told me to send the motherboard back and they would test it _only_ if I returned it in two days. I've never been treated so rudely by anyone anywhere."

"Slow shipping. Items on their web site are not always available. Had to talk to a company rep twice before the order was shipped. Returns are difficult even when the wrong item was shipped. Long return contract that you must sign during RMA process. Takes several days to obtain an RMA number. Threaten legal action if you attempt a charge back during RMA process (apparently many customers get upset about them only refunding the lowest price on Price Watch). Poor customer focus."

"ordered about $600 worth of computer parts over the phone from accubyte.

one of the items was a cpu+motherboard combo...i was told that the combo included a deluxe asus motherboard...when i received the package, i discovered that it was the regular version, not the deluxe.

called accubyte the next day, only to be told that "no, you ordered the regular". customer service was very unhelpful, basically offering me to cough up an extra $35 to cover the price difference and shipping. even talking to the GM did not resolve my complaint.

i ended up returning my board, but not before they charged my credit card for a new board that i did not order, and then waiting over 2 weeks to refund me both the fraudulent/erroneous charge and the refund for the board i mailed back (i mailed it with tracking, and the refund took 2 weeks and several irate calls from when they received the board).

worthless company. DO NOT ORDER.

"The purchase of the computer went pretty smoothly. I ordered a Barebones 1800XP machine. The first problem arised when they told me that they were going to charge me $212 and they actually charged me $240. They justified it and told me that they were giving me the retail proc. package instead of the OEM one, since OEM was out of stock. Thats fine with me.

Shipping was ok. Came in about a week later. I setup the entire PC with my extra components and when I turned on the PC, BOOM - The power supply blew up. Luckly it didn't damage any of my equipment. I had to go and buy another PS while I waited for the new one to arrive from Accubyte.

Then I realized after the warentee was up that instead of sending me a ECS K7S5A motherboard like I requested, they sent me a third hand PC Chips board which freezes when it runs at max speed. I even tried flashing the bios many times to fix this problem.

I was not too satified.

"purchase went smooth, thats about the only part

this was the first time i decided to build my own system so i decided on the additional 1 year warrantee on my motherboard/cpu combo and ram purchase, well needless to say i fried my cpu/mobo the first day i got it, and immediately started dealing with their tech support department and have been dealing with them about every 2 months since, i would send my product in to be tested they would find it non functional and send me back different make/model motherboards along with replacement cpus that may or may not work, and if they did work they stopped shortly thereafter

"I bought from Accubyte several years ago and had no problem so I neglected to check their reseller rating. What a mistake!
I purchased a case, MB, CPU combo pack. The motherboard came without any cables. It had a layer of dust and red stickers on both the battery and board. We use the same stickers where I work to mark defective products.
After blowing solid dust bunnies out of all the slots I powered it up. The battery was reported as near-death, the CPU fan header was dead, and the hard drive LED header gave no power for the LED. I got the CPU fan to work by hooking the fan to the system header. Now I knew what the red stickers were for. I had been sold someone's defective return! I got an RMA and sent the board back.
DO NOT SHOP HERE! They do not reply to e-mails. As of June 18 they had a phone message saying they were moving and would be open June 23. As of June 23 none of the phone numbers listed are answered.
Since I have no idea if I'll ever get a good board Mastercard has instructed me to send back the case and CPU. As long as I can demonstrate that I tried in good faith to return the defective order they'll refund me my loss (although I'll probably be out a total of $18 shipping).

"I received a motherboard from Accubyte that was defective and had to ship it back after attempting to contact the 800 number that you people do not answer. I then had to call a long-distance number and speak to someone who told me to ship it back with an RMA number. I shipped the MB back at a cost of over $6.00+ dollars. I again attempted to call and could not reach anyone on the 800 number. So again I had to call the toll number but were unable to reach anyone concerning the status of the board. At this point I then disputed the charge because with the credit card company because:

1 - merchandise was defective
2 - unable to reach anyone by 800 number
3 - could not reach anyone at toll number to see if board was received
4 - you had my money and left me in limbo without a working MB

Soon after the charge was disputed I again received the board without any note or letter explaining what the status was. I again plugged in the board and it was defective. At this point I have no working MB and am at a loss for shipping charges. I still have the board in the box sitting up on a shelf. I have since ordered a WORKING MB from another company and installed it in the same tower.

Good Luck working with this company! Buyer Beware!!!

"After reading all of the comments here, I feel extremely lucky. This is a bit of a long story, so bear with me. Ultimately I'm happy with MY experience with Accubyte, but not happy with how they seem to be treating most people!

My wife and I are building a new PC as a gift for her sister. We started ordering parts from several different online retailers on a Wednesday evening, hoping to get everything by early the next week. Then we would have time to assemble and test the system before bringing it out to her sister the following weekend (10 days after initial orders placed).

Accubyte had the best deals on an IBM 80gb hard drive, Biostar M7VIP + Athlon 1800+ MB/CPU combo, and a cheap ATI video card. I thought I recognized the name Accubyte as a reputable place I'd done business with before, so I didn't check here like I normally do. I guess I must have been wrong! But anyway we ordered all the above, plus a "value package" with heatsink/fan/shim (admittedly overpriced), and got 3-4 day shipping (also overpriced).

Thursday morning Accubyte called to try to upsell to a M7VIT motherboard for $12 more. They said the combo we ordered would work fine, but some customers reported problems trying to upgrade the cheaper motherboard with faster processors. Since we don't expect her sister to ever upgrade the CPU by itself, we declined. I was a bit upset that they tried this tactic, but since they didn't push it further, I let it slide. They said the order would ship soon and we got off the phone.

Friday afternoon, their website still said the order was "In Process" and it was just too late to call them and check on the status. I began to worry -- if it didn't ship until Monday or later, we might not have enough time to assemble the system and deliver it the next weekend. So then I checked Reseller Ratings and nearly got sick! I thought we were doomed.

We talked it over that evening, and perhaps in a moment of panic decided to go ahead and order the same stuff from NewEgg. Hopefully we'd be able to cancel the Accubyte order Monday morning since it probably wouldn't have shipped yet, and just eat the 5% cancellation charge worst case (what a shady practice that is!). With cheaper shipping, NewEgg was nearly the same price, and much more reliable!

But right after I placed the NewEgg order, I checked my email to see a shipping notice from UPS that the Accubyte order had shipped Friday. Oh no! Now we had 2 orders for the same stuff, the direct result of Accubyte having such a horrible rating! Ok, so now the plan was to call NewEgg first thing Monday morning and try to cancel that order before it went out. We thought about keeping it anyway since there are several horror stories here about receiving used/broken parts, or the wrong stuff altogether, but decided if it gets to that, we'll just buy them locally for a little more money at that time.

Monday morning comes around, and wouldn't you know it? By the time NewEgg's phone lines were open, they had already shipped the package. Doh, service too good! (I'll write a review about that over there, too)

By Tuesday, both NewEgg and Accubyte packages arrived, plus others we had ordered elsewhere, so we had all the parts for the PC. The box from Accubyte was packed well and contained everything that we ordered. The motherboard was in the original box with cables, drivers, and manual, along with the OEM CPU. The hard drive said Hitachi instead of IBM, which threw me for a loop. A quick google search revealed that IBM is in the process of selling their hard drive business to Hitachi, so Accubyte wasn't sending me an inferior product. In fact, this meant it was newer, since the IBM/Hitachi switch is quite recent.

We went ahead and used the parts from Accubyte to initially setup the PC. Installed Windows 98, everything went smoothly. Ran a disk surface scan overnight with no problems, and left a memory testing program (www.memtest86.org) running while at work. No problems. Then proceeded to install a Windows XP upgrade, again no problems.

At this point we decided to switch to the NewEgg parts, purely based on Accubyte's reputation here. In the unlikely event that anything does go wrong in the future, it would probably be easier to deal with NewEgg than Accubyte. We'll use the Accubyte parts to upgrade one of our own computers, rather than dealing with the hassle of returning them.

So I can't say that I'm dissatisfied at all with the outcome, but I must be lucky or something. I'm upset that I panicked and bought two sets of parts, but that was my own fault for not checking here first. Would I buy from Accubyte again? No, but only because of the ratings here and at other sites. It was not fun waiting for the order to arrive, wondering how many things would be wrong with it. I'm glad it turned out as well as it did. My theory is that if you order some extras and don't get the cheapest shipping, they treat you ok. If you get the cheapest shipping and no extras, they treat you very poorly.

"Okay, here's my experience to date. On May 10, I ordered an XP 2000+/Biostar M7VIT combo and a 40.0 GB 7200 hard drive.

On Monday, May 12, I got a call from them saying they couldn't verify the shipping address with my CC company. I explained that the shipping and billing addresses are different because we have secured entry at my apartment, so I have things shipped to my friend's apartment and the address is on file with the CC Co. The lady said she'd call them again and make sure. She called back and said the address was approved and that the items would be sent the next day.

Today is May 13 and I got another call from them saying the 40.0 GB was out of stock but they could upgrade it to 80.0 GB for $12 more. I warned her that this had better not be a bait and switch and she assured me that it wasn't. I looked on their website as I was speaking with her and the one they were offering as a replacement was listed as $25 more. I told her that the replacement was fine, but that I refused to pay more money. She put me on hold to check with her boss and came back saying they had to up the price on the 80.0 GB or I could wait until the 40.0 GB was in stock later this week. I told her I would be willing to meet her half-way and upgrade for $6. She again went to her boss. After a minute she came back and offered to do the upgrade for $9 and she would also upgrade my shipping to 2-day air for free. I took the deal and asked her to get me a tracking # ASAP. She said she'd call me back in a few minutes. About 15 minutes later, she did call back with the tracking #. I don't feel that I was ripped off in this scenario and that I was treated fairly.

Now if all goes well and the parts are in working order when they arrive, I will be back on here to give them a solid rating.

"This reseller is down the street from me.

I ordered an OEM XP2400 on Sunday the 13th, and called them on the 16th to see if I could just pick up the item (which would save me the $16+ in shipping).

So, I call them on the morning of the 16th, and Mitch states that he can't access my order, and would call me back as soon as he could...riiiight. I mention that I would like to pick up the product to save on the shipping costs. Meanwhile, my order status online is still "In Progress".

So, he calls back. I stated again that I would like to pick up the product. He states that the OEM version is not available for pickup, but the 2400 with a HSF is. Of course, that costs more money.

I then state that I already have a HSF waiting for the processor, and he could go ahead and cancel my order.

Mitch then says that since my credit card has already been charged, that they would charge the card 5% of the purchase price. I then tell him that I will not be paying a 5% fee, and will dispute it with my CC company. He says fine and we hang up.

So, I immediately call my CC company, and was very surprised. Mitch had placed the authorization on my credit card during the time he said "I'll call you back" and when he did call back.

So, between the unnecessary upselling and trying to scam me out of 5% (which the CC company is going to take care of), I would never recommend doing business with this company to anyone.

I purchased my equipment at a competitor and will never attempt to do business with Accubyte again.
