One word of caution but NOT against Alpine. PLEASE inspect your shipment CAREFULLY before accepting it from the delivery driver. While the driver was still there, I glanced over mine and didn't see anything. However, after he left I uncovered everything and found the unit had some scary damage on one side. There is a nice dent in the unit right at the compressor and exchanger coils. I had to take off all the panels to inspect the parts inside. Thank goodness it was only cosmetic damage. Had it been dented in another half-inch, the unit would have been destroyed. The carrier was R&L.

"My Alpine Home Air 18,000 BTU minisplit arrived quickly and was exactly as described. I bought it to replace an ancient 24,000 BTU through-the-wall unit that sounded like a jet engine and let bugs and drafts in. I did the physical installation of the components - if you can use a drill, a screwdriver, and a level, you can easily do this. It took me a couple of afternoons. Once I had everything buttoned up and the wiring was complete, I had a local HVAC tech route the lines, make the connections, release the refrigerant, and start it up. That was $275 well spent. It had its first workout this weekend - temps into the 90s and it quietly kept my family room with its west-facing sliding glass door cool and comfortable. A few things to note . . . I was under the impression that Alpine would try to find a local contractor to do the final hookup. I asked for that when I placed my order and never heard anything from them (I found a tech on my own, so no big deal). I bought the wifi connector and after multiple tries (and I work in IT) it refuses to see my wifi network, even though the network is the right frequency and the router is about 15 feet away. Oh, well. I didn't really need to control the thing from my phone anyway. I know not to bother with the wifi add-on when I buy the next one (which I am planning to do). I have the outdoor unit hung on a wall bracket. The unit is quiet, but there is an audible rumble inside when the compressor is operating. I installed the included rubber pads when I bolted the unit to the bracket - I probably should have used isolators on the connection between the brackets and the wall. No biggie - it's still much quieter than the old through-the-wall unit (and the inside unit is inaudible when it's operating on low fan speed, and barely audible on high speed). Overall, I am very impressed and am planning to order another multi-zone unit to take care of the rest of the house. By investing a little time and taking care of the physical and electrical installation myself, I saved over $1000 versus another quote I received for a full install from another local company. "
