"Nothing but positive things to say about amazon.
I guess all I can complain about, is their selection isn't nearly as good as the US site.
But in terms of shipping prices, customer support, you really can't get much better."
"your website is the easiest to navigate to"
"I ordered this package during the Canada Post strike, with the free super saver shipping. They upgraded my package to 2 day UPS shipping at no additional cost to me. The Contents were well packaged. Now that amazon has been expanding the selection on the Canadian store, I will definitely be ordering from them in the future again. "
"Placed an order on Feb 4th for some E2320T-PN Monitors. Items were suppose to ship Feb 24th. It takes 3 weeks to ship? Oh well, didn't cancel as I needed the monitors.
A week later I emailed them as my LCDs have not shipped yet. I get an apology and they cannot speed up the shipment as its already being picked for shipping. Another week goes by and again I email them. Same thing, they cannot do anything as its already being shipped. and another week. My third time communicating with them asking why it has taken 6 weeks to ship my monitors. This time they admit there is an issue with their system and they will ship them asap. That was about 4 days ago. Still my order is unshipped. This product is from Amazon's own warehouse and not a 3rd party store. I am very disatisifed and can't believe the lack of support and customer service I have received especially from such a large company.
If you need product from them, I would suggest you be willing to wait several months for your product to ship.
Very poor service and lack of communication and action to resolve an issue."
"Great to deal with! Awesome selection, really good pricing, quick shipping!"
"I have ordered a bunch of text books for school and they all came in a timely manner. Except for one set of books that apparently got lost in shipping. After about 2 weeks, amazon resent the lost package by the regular shipping. So this order took almost an extra month to retrieve.
Now 4 months later the lost package arrives. I email amazon to ask them what should I do and they gave me an RMA label to ship it back to them."
"Amazon shipped the items within 2 business days and they arrived within 5. Very pleased with the service as usual."
"Great store - wonderful selection - i needed a book for school and they actually had one and was $10 CHEAPER than my school bookstore - received it in 3 days and only choose Free Shipping option!"
"One of the best, fastest, and useful online services I've done business with.
SERVICE: Amazon.ca has a wide selection of products for sale including books, music CDs, DVD/Blu-ray movies, video games, personal electronics, and newly-added home and garden supplies. Members can also rate products they've bought or own, create wish lists of items from the site, and get recommendations for other products based on ones they've bought, rated highly, or recently viewed on the Amazon.ca website.
WEBSITE: Amazon.ca is well laid out with lots of information available on each page, but never too much to be overwhelming. Its look is very similar to that of Amazon.com. Navigating the site is quite simple and, if the product you want is available on the site, you will have an easy time locating it.
The user ratings offer a decent way to tell the quality of an item, although, like most reviews, they are usually opinions of those who really like the product and those who really don't, with lots of '5/5's averaged together with '1/5's. Also, ratings for older items are often applied to a new release of that item (e.g. DVD reviews added as reviews of the Blu-ray release of the same movie, hardcover book reviews for softcover releases) which is fine if your interested solely in the main content of the item (e.g. the quality of the film or book). but not if your interested in things like the quality of the overall new package (e.g. size of item, special features, packaging, Blu-ray video transfer quality, improvements upon prior iteration of release, etc.)
One of my favorite features of an Amazon site, including amazon.ca, is the product recommendation based on items I've shown interest in. I have purchased 23 different items comprising 14 different orders with Amazon.ca since the beginning of 2009 and most of these items were recommended to me because of other items I had purchased and/or rated. The recommendations aren't always perfect, with offers to buy Wii shovelware based on my purchase of AAA Wii titles, Xbox 360 games based on PS3 purchases, and DVD versions of movies that I have purchased or indicated I own in the Blu-ray format. I am also sometimes recommended items that are already in my wish list.
PRODUCT(S: Amazon.ca seems to list just about every major Canadian book, music, movie, and video game release. Books, music CDs and DVDs/Blu-rays remain in stock for long periods of time. Few of these items appear as 'currently unavailable' or no longer in stock, and if they do, it's usually only temporarily. Video games are a different story. Most of Amazon's video game business is conducted via new release pre-orders and very little stock is available after a game's release and few old titles can be found on the site.
PRICE: The price on items is quite competitive with retail outlets, especially when it comes to books and movies. Movies are very aggressively priced and have always had a standard 30% off the MSRP, and that value is sometimes even higher. Video game prices tend to be just as high as at retail outlets, and sometimes can be listed as CAD $10 more.
SHIPPING: All items are stored at a facility in Canada and therefore can easily ship to Canadian addresses without having to come from the U.S. and deal with issues like customs and brokerage.
A free basic shipping option is available on orders over $39. This can usually take between 4-10 business days to arrive. I usually opt for the express shipping method which is reasonably priced and items typically arrive in 3 business days--in some cases 2 days. There is also a priority option which advertises delivery in 1-2 days, however I have never used it because, to me, the promise of delivery 1 day earlier than by the express option is not worth the much higher cost.
My items have always arrived in adequate packaging (most often a cardboard box or wrap) and have never arrived damaged, save for a few minor issues with the fragile teeth that hold a disc in place inside a case that could have happened anywhere along the distribution line, and are found no matter where you buy your disc-based media from.
WARRANTY/RETURNS: I have always received the correct items in working order, so I haven't had to deal with things like warranties and returns.
The returns policy appears to be pretty standard with a 30-day period in which to return your item provided it is in new condition and, if it is software, has not been opened. They have a dedicated "Returns Center" to deal with your issues should you have any. If you discover your software has been damaged [possibly because the little holding teeth have broken and a disc has been flung around inside the case during its journey (note: I haven't experienced this, even with discs that have arrived in broken cases)], there is a section for replacement of damaged/defective items in the Returns Center. There is currently a "Holiday Returns Policy" that allows you to return any item purchased between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31 2009 by Jan. 31, 2010.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: As stated above, I've never had any issue that warranted a conversation with customer service, so I can't offer any information on it. Links to customer service via email or phone are readily available on the homepage.
Amazon.ca is one of my favourite online stores because of the range of products they offer, their very fast shipping, and the recommendations feature. They are one of the best online places to purchase books and movies (new or old releases) in Canada. If you're looking at buying video games, it's probably best to look at other sites as there are seldom any discounts offered, very limited selection, and shipping tends to be quite slow."
