"8 or 9 years ago, a co-worker suggested my bed mattress might be the source of my often waking with pain in my body, which I otherwise attributed to just being a weight & fitness issue, overlooking that my $600 Beautyrest mattress was 12-13 years old and not really given any thought to the age of a mattress. Convinced that could be the source of my issues, I bought an Aireloom Bamboo Hybrid box springs/mattress for around $3000, which was a price shock, but consistent with many high quality mattresses of similar features & warranty. The retailer offered a 90-day trial period, but I just never really felt it worth returning a mattress to try another until finding one that worked. Moreover, the Aireloom always felt comfortable even though I still found myself waking up stiff and sore at times....again, I just blamed my overall fitness.

After 6 years or so of sleeping on the Aireloom, I decided to add a 3" memory foam topper to see if despite the initial sense of comfort I had with the mattress, would memory foam possibly help? I was never convinced, and sold the topper. More recently, still questioning the memory foam and wondering if a better quality "cooling" memory foam would be better, I bought a Dream Serenity topper from Walmart and did find that it seemed to help. However, after a few months I basically decided I was still uncertain yet encouraged enough that I thought I should try a full memory foam mattress...that is, one designed around memory foam upper layers.

Researching various websites that seemed to give credible, unbiased reviews of multiple memory foam mattress manufacturers, I ultimately decided to try Amerisleep. I was a little uncertain if I should go with the AS3 for those who sleep both on their sides and back, or the slightly firmer AS2 for back sleepers; I chose the AS3 on an assumption that I'd be happy with the "most popular" Amerisleep model.

The mattress was shipped on time, about a week after the order was entered, and arrived in a compressed roll in good condition. I found there to be no significant offgassing to bother me, and within 3-4 hours the mattress had largely recovered to its full shape, and I was sleeping on it that night.

End result? The best sleep I have had in a long time! From the very first night, I was sleeping comfortably, but I'll add that I also put that Dream Serenity topper atop the Amerisleep mattress. I was still waiting for the arrival of a foundation, so the topper was just a curiosity to try out for a few days before taking the mattress up from the floor and putting it on the foundation. Once on the foundation and the topper not used, I wondered if the AS3 would feel too firm, but it didn't. I slept every bit as good, maybe better - hard to say - as without the topper. For now, I'm thinking I might put the topper back on it simply because that soft plush feel it adds may be something I like enough to at least try out a while longer. But, there is no real need for it since the AS3 truly sleeps great.

I know there are issues with memory foam mattresses feeling hot, and the foam used by Amerisleep is supposed to sleep cooler. For what I can tell, and really quite similar to the Dream Serenity topper, that is true. I never really feel hot at all when sleeping on either the mattress or the topper. However, I do feel a distinctly warm spot where I was sleeping when I raise up off the mattress. That just makes sense to me that it would feel that way, yet again still doesn't really feel hot insofar as making me uncomfortable while sleeping in that spot through the night.

Foam recovery of the AS3 seems really good, the foam not forming to the body and maintaining that molded impression when you shift around.

I looked at several different online brands of memory foam mattresses and have no idea if Amerisleep is necessarily better than the others, I just know I'm very happy with my purchase and have no reason to try another brand. I definitely recommend Amerisleep."
