"Update #1:
I tried to speak with these criminals on the phone just a few minutes ago. First I went through Jacki, and then she forwarded me to someone who was well-aware of my problem, but was nonetheless unhelpful.
I was told that there is a little burn mark on the CPU, which I cannot see, even on the large 10x magnification image they sent me. This man, who never gave his name, told me that I should review the law -- that I have to prove to him that he sent me faulty merchandise. He claims that I caused the damage, and I claim that he sent me a CPU he already knew was damaged. I further told him that his picture proved nothing unless he could also provide a 'before' picture of the CPU that he sent me -- showing the CPU as it was before he sent it out to me.
This man was not only absolutely rude in his demeanor, but once he got through telling me that I need to familiarize myself with the law, he hung up the phone on me. These is NOT the actions of a legitimate operation -- this is not the action of a company which cares at all about its customers.
I will be contacting the California Attorney General's office tomorrow. I will encourage them to investigate this scam operation to the fullest extent possible -- first by examining the multitude of complaints lodged against them with the Better Business Bureau, and also this website here. I believe there is a prima facia case to be made that they have a pattern of behavior here....going well beyond their poor business manners.
As a suggestion to anyone else even contemplating dealing with this company -- don't do it! Save yourself the time and headache.
And to Atacom -- who I believe reads these messages, and adds positive ratings to bolster their scores (as evidenced by the same choppy english in their postings as I heard when I called them on the phone). STOP SCREWING YOUR CUSTOMERS! "
"Latest two purchases (motherboard and power supply, separate orders) were perfect. Excellent service. Called with a question and it was answered promptly and accurately."
"I WILL ECHO EVERYONE ELSE:
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY.
They sent me a defective motherboard. I RMA'd it and asked for a credit. They charged me 15% to take back a DEFECTIVE product.
Thank god for AmEx Blue and return protection.
Any company that does not offer full refund on defective products need not to be in business.
The shipping was high as well. Give your business to someone who cares and can speak English! "
"Ordered the Gainward ti 4600 on 3/13. Item shipped same day. Very pleased with the product and the service. "
"I bought an Abit BP6 mobo. When I called, the person spoke broken English like promised, but they where really nice and the order went through. I ordered it March 29, it shipped the 30th and I received it April 2nd. I installed the mobo and the machine started up right away. Now I have a dual Celeron server. :-)"
"Received tracking number on my Gainward 750XP TI4600 Video card within 3 hours of placing my order. People ordering this card from other resellers weeks before me still have not received their cards. I'm very happy with the transaction."
"I ordered an ABIT TH7II-RAID MB, P4 1.6a, 512megs RDRAM and a couple case fans. Two days later I received all of it EXCEPT the MB in the box was a TH7II with out raid. Now the box was the correct box it just had the wrong product inside. After a day of explaining that to the, which I understand because this doesn't happen everyday, I finaly talk to their CS "supervisor". Now he did get things fix for me, however I had to wait another 4 days before I received the correct MB and I had to pay for shipping to send them the wrong MB back. Which to me the 12 bucks is more than worth it to get rid of them. The biggest issue with them is that they do not want to do what is right by their customers. They kept trying to tell me it was my problem, it wasn't their problem and that I had to take it up with ABIT. This was not a product defect it was the wrong product all together. I recomend that unless they are the only company you can find something you need at to go shop somewhere else. The headaches and total lack of respect from them is just not worth dealing with."
"Bought a motherboard/CPU combination from them which arrived and didn't work. Terrible experience trying to get advice from their tech support although they did provide an RMA number in a timely fashion. Upon return, they claimed that I had damaged it and would have to deal with manufacturer directly. Packages were not sealed when delivered and arrived in non-operational state. This is currently being disputed with credit card company, but I would never do business with them again!"
"Tried to buy a GF3Ti500. It didn't arrive for a week. Called them and found it was out of stock (shouldn't they have told me?) They said it'd be in stock in a few days. Called them up in a few days to check and they said yes, it was in stock, but my order had been deleted. So I made a new order. A week later, guess what? No card. Called them again, *still* out of stock. They said they'd be getting it in . . . a few days. Called them in a few days, made sure they had some in stock, ordered again. Finally arrived. It's given me more trouble than any other piece of hardware I've ever touched. It bluescreens in Q3-engine games, it bluescreens instantly if I install the latest drivers, it refuses to boot up half the time. They won't take a return (getting ahold of their tech support took over a month, which was their limit), and sending it in for a replacement will cost *me* money. I'm never dealing with these people again. Submitted to the Better Business Bureau."
"Purchased nearly everything to build an overclocked Celeron 300a from Atacom March 1999, and I'm still running the same machine at 464mhz as I write this! There were no problems, and I would buy from them again, providing their selection is still as good. "
"Bought a ABit KT&-raid board from them. They sent 2 DOA boards in a row. Custumer service is lackluster. I had to badger them to get the replacement sent and to even supply tracking info. Very hard to get through to customer service on the telephone and 3 out 4 times my question could not beanswered by their dept...tracking info...if replacement was sent. After a month of dealing with their crappy service just cancelled the order ended up costing me $70 for nothing... No reply to them as to why it cost so much. Was worth the $70 just to get rid of them."
