Fiberboard with thin wood grain plastic coating. Attractive unit. Concerns during assembly: insert top piece screws until the threads disappear and not further as that will prevent the turn locking cams from being able to capture the head of the screws. for the casters, once the unit is together mark holes using a caster base then drill four pilot holes for each caster (careful not to drill through base piece).
you may need to carefully clean out holes into which the glass shelf brackets are to fit into.
Problems I experienced, top piece cams did not securely all capture screw heads (which then had to be adjusted for depth), which still does not seem as securely attached as I would like.
The metal of shelf brackets is cheap and brittle and broke off leaving one pin lodged inside the hole but no bracket. (I had to drill and then use a screw extractor to remove it).
A power drill with 1/8 inch bit, and similar sized hex head bit will be very useful. (a small allen wrench is included but would be time consuming). If the unit goes together well then the piece is good.

"Shipped promptly. Well packed, no damage. Height is easily adjustable by a lever. The comments others had made indicated that the back support wasn't adjustable enough. I found that a person with short thighs fits comfortably with the seat back as shipped. I have longer legs so it felt like the back support was pushing me too far foward. I solved this problem by replacing the carriage bolt that comes with the chair (3/8" x 4") with a carriage bolt 1-1/2" longer, ie. 3/8" x 5 1/2 (it si not black but who cares? you can't see it anyway!). Now I can use the seat back comfortably. The chair is good quality and easy to assemble. I recommend you insert the wheels last to make the assembly easier. Btw, I put my old std. office chair out on the street the same day I tried this kneeling chair. I could not sit in the other chair anymore due to severe sciatic nerve pain. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. I also wheel it out of the office to sit at the kitchen table during meals. "
