I simultaneously rented from a competitor and found the verification process of BorrowLenses much better than the competitor. The competitor was a bit faster in keeping me updated on the process through emails, but I found BorrowLenses did a sufficient job, and when I called them to get an update on how things were going they were very quick, friendly, and helpful in ensuring me everything was going fine. "I am a first-time customer. I wanted to try the Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens, along with a focus rail and Canon's twin-light Speedlite. The package came from BorrowLenses on the day they promised, and everything was in excellent condition. I was impressed that, even as a new customer, there was no hassle or extra documentation needed to compete the order. The bottom line is that after a week I decided I didn't like the lens, so for about 10% of the cost I was able to make an informed decision that saved me a lot of money."
"I rented 2 Nikon lenses and a battery grip. One lens didn't function properly and the Nikon battery grip worked just some of the time. I was glad I rented the equipment a day before I actually needed it for the wedding I was to shoot so I could figure out other options. I had another photographer check things out so it wouldn't just be 'my malfunction'... He had the same problems with the equipment I had. I called BorrowLenses right away. They said it was still too short a time for BorrowLenses to send me replacement. But they would take notes of my complaints, realizing I couldn't use the equipment and would give me a call as soon as the equipment got returned. I was worried because if they felt there was no malfunction I was out of luck. A month and a half has passed, I was never called back. I just received an e-mail to thank me for returning the equipment in good order. No mention of my complaints and no money returned to me, all the while I was short an important lens and was without a battery grip I paid for.
Needless to say, I am not so happy with BorrowLenses. Even if they found nothing wrong with the equipment, they could have the courtesy to give me a call, take my complaint seriously and their customer service seriously."
"I recently rented a lens for a wedding from BorrowLenses.com. I mistakenly ordered a 24-70 4.0, instead of a 24-70 2.8. Rather than help me out when I realized what I'd done, this company exploited my mistake. I had the lens less than 24 hours, but was charged 60% ($57) of my full rental price ($94) for a lens I neither used, nor wanted. When asked for any help with this (such as a waiver of the "refund fee") I was told they wouldn't give me "preferential treatment." I'm disappointed that this company has such poor customer relations, and doesn't see the value of a loyal customer. In contrast, my local camera store bent over backwards to get me the lens I needed in time for the wedding, and at a price I could afford. Moral of the story: go to your local lens rental store. They actually want a repeat customer."
