By renting this expensive lense at a fraction of it's purchase price I was able to "test drive" it to see if it was a lense that I "needed" or if rental from time to time would be sufficient. The fast shutter speed was great but I was shooting mostly outdoors so I really didn't see much difference from my current lenses (mine: 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 vs. rental: 70-200 f/2.8). However for the darker indoor shots (at a sportsman type lodge) the fast shutter speed really helped.

I'd recommend this lense if you're basically looking for really crisp/clear outdoor shots in daylight or for darker shots taken indoors or in darker outdoor conditions. Either way it was a fun lense and I plan on renting it again (with hopes of eventually owning one).

The one downside is that I'm used to shooting with an 18-200 focal length - so the lack of the 18-70 focal length was noticable when using the lense. This had nothing to do with the lense...just my personal preference."
