"I ordered a camera, spair battery, and an extended warranty. They didn't upsell me -- I called with the intention of ordering all of the above.

I was very happy with the service I got. They were polite, didn't try to upsell me (probably because I'd ordered so much to begin with), and the items were well packaged and shipped quickly. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I heard that this company does try to upsell a lot. So, instead of placing my order online, where things might get delayed if they sent me email to call them back for an upsell, I just called their number and ordered over the phone. It was quick and the service was good.

"I have purchased two $1,000 cameras from Butterfly Photo and have been pleased both times. I would recommend them to others, and I am sure people would have a positive experience as long as they were prepared for the sales call.

As others have said on this site, Butterfly prices their cameras very low, and when you call to place an order they will try to sell you accessories to give them a decent profit margin on the order. However each time I ordered I declined the accessories and Butterfly shipped me my camera, in perfect condition, via free shipping and at the price I was expecting. Accessories are not required, however...

The guys working at Butterfly are commissioned sales people just trying to make a buck. Truth is, I don't mind them selling me an extra battery so they can make $10, when I just saved $150 on a camera. If I need accessories I will probably give them a call back because they have been good to me in the past.

My last order was placed with Angelo at ext. 234. He was knowledgeable, polite, and even cracked a few jokes. I would recommend giving him a call if you find a deal at their site.

"I placed an online order for a Canon ZR700, priced at $312. Although it wasn't the lowest price on the net but the store has better ratings. Despite some negative comments I went ahead and placed an order on Friday, just before I left work for the weekend.

Following Monday when I check my voicemail at work and found a message left by the sales rep. Called the number back and was asked if I wanted to purchase tapes, battery, extended warranty, etc. I said no thanks to each and the sales rep. never tried to push me into buying any of it.

He then thanked me for the order and told me it would be ship out that afternoon. This was Monday, March 20th, '06. I received my order on two days later, I live in Indy.

I would definitely purchase from them again. Hopefully the next experience will be as pleasant as this one.

"I cannot compl;ain abput anything, the service was great, I order a Casio S600 on the 14th and i got it on the 16th as I was told, I sicerely recommend this is store for my expirience, about ehat some pleople say that they try to sell you more accesories is truth but i just told them that i did not need any and that was all. "Ordered via phone a Maxxum 7D body for $859 from Butterfly after having researched the store through reseller ratings.com. (Another store actually had the best price but horrible reviews on this site so I decided against it.) Learned about a possible hard sell from Butterfly but wasn't too worried about it. Spoke to a gentleman called Roy who did try a little hard sell on camera accessories but I didn't bite and the order completed smoothly. The camera, according to their website, could be shipped free via ground (7-10 days) and Roy verified this. Well, was I surprised when he sent it next day air and at no charge! I got it two days later (I wasn't home the first day) in perfect and new condition. I am very satisfied with their service and would recommend the store to others. "

"I'm sorry but don't listen to the naysayers. I received my Nikon D70s with 18-70 lens in perfect condition 2 days after I placed my order on the 5th. The naysayers must work for competing companies. I called to confirm my order and then they asked me two questions, were very polite and Sent the Item to the warehouse to be picked up. Awesome Company no bait and switch here. Definite Recommend."

"Ordered a Maxxum 7d and VC-7D grip online 3 days ago. Got the perfunctory "you must call Butterfly Photo about your order" the next day and finally got a hold of a live person today.

Butterfly Photo refused my order because I have a Canadian credit card (Bank of America, actually!) even though I had my US shipping address linked to the card. Go figure! I guess Canadian money converted to US Funds isn't good enough? So much for free trade!

Perhaps Butterfly could spell out their policies a little bit better regarding international (or lack thereof) sales.

Lesson learned - the internet may be ok for some purchases, but the toll free number is the way to go. But not with Butterfly.

"I purchased a sony dvd405 digital camera from butterfly photo. I was initially going to purchase using the web page, but didn't want to get the confirmatory phone call/upsell, so i decided to just call and place my order.
i ordered form a customer service rep named eddie. he was a little pushy but definitely took no for an answer when trying to sell warranties/batteries etc. he never bad-mouthed what came with the camera. he confirmed that it was a brand new item with a usa warranty. when i said i didn't want any optional accesories, he cheerfully completed my order. the total cost was 699.99 plus around 9 dollars for fedex 3-5 day delivery. even though i paid for 3-5 day delivery, it was sent via 2 day delivery, and was sent out on the day i ordered it! i ordered monday at lunchtime and got the camcorder wednesday at lunchtime.
i, like many out there, was nervous about making a major purchase from a company with some negative feedback. i did because their prices were so competitive, and i'm glad i did. i can't guarantee that everything will go so well for you, but i wouldn't hesitate to order form them again.

"Five days ago, in the midst of a tutorial training session I was offering a student, my Panasonic FZ-30 failed to power up. After thorough testing, and a call to Panasonic, it was clear that it was dead. I am leaving in a week on a one month shoot in Asia, and my only option was to buy a replacement -- fast. My student has purchased her FZ-30 from Butterflyphoto. She told me they had the lowest prices she could find, and fast service. She warned me about the up-sell tactics of Butterfly's sales people, but said that they gave her no problems. On Monday evening of this week, I ordered it on line, requesting Fedex Express Saver three day service. On Tuesday, I received a call from "Sam" I told him I had all of the accessories for this camera. He tried to sell me an extended warranty and I refused. He said the camera would arrive here in Arizona in "five days." Sam was wrong. It arrived in two days! It is in perfect order, and my price was about $100 less than I expected to pay and $230 less than retail.

I would rate this store's prices as excellent. Its service is remarkable. It probably makes its money on selling extra accessories and warranties, but I did not find the hard-sell to be out of the ordinary.

"Website and checkout process is fine; then the problems start. You will immediately be sent an email requiring you to call and confirm your order. If you ever get through, you will be connected to sales person who will try a high pressure up-sell and cross-sell. You will be offered accessories and the infamous extended warranty. Sounds like such a deal until you check those prices on the web. If you really want an extended warranty, you can buy it elsewhere after the fact for half of the lowest price Butterfly Photo will offer it for. If you decide to turn down everything, the sales guy will tell you thank you and that he will send the order over to the warehouse for processing. That never happens. The next day you will get an email from their billing department for a LOA. You MUST ATTACH A COPY OF FRONT OF DRIVERS LICENSE AND THE FRONT AND BACK OF ABOVE CREDIT CARD. This goes well above what they need to process the credit card order. Check your credit card’s fraud policy. American Express example: https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/loyalty.do?us_nav=leftnav&page=FraudCenter.whatwedo All they should ask you for is the CID/CCV and the billing zip code that you have on file. I wasn’t about to allow them to have that much personal information about me and had to cancel the order after at least a couple of hours of fustration."

"I purchased a 3CCD camcorder from Butterfly right before Christmas when another vendor told me it was on backorder when I called to confirm with them. The salesman did try to upsell me - but who doesn't? I have yet to find a successful online or in-store salesperson who doesn't do this. I don't enjoy that part of the deal but it's how they make their money and how the business world works. Anyhow, after refusing the upsells the salesman lowered the prices and after a little bargaining I received one of the items at a price I couldn't find anywhere else. They assured me it would be there in time for the holiday and it was. I couldn't be happier with their service. In fact, I am looking to buy a digital camera from them today. "
