"I purchased online for a camcorder - Sony HC90. And it gave me a price of $729.00 only. And when I added to the cart and it showed me including shipping $743.80 . And also showed the Tax as $0.

And I gava all my information and asked for checkout, and on checkout it says confirmation and total amount as 806.68 with tax of $62.88.

This is rediculous. As atleast before checkout it should clearly mention the total charrge and not cheat the customers in this way.

I have seen many sites and done lots of online transaction. But only found this way of fraud in this site.

PLEASE be careful.

"I searched the net for a good price. Found a 'scammer' so decided to go to the forums and read about decent prices/places to shop. Someone suggested butterflyphoto so I checked them out, found they had a great price on the Canon 300D (otherwise known as the Digital Rebel). I ordered it on Sunday. Around Tuesday I received the email to call. Having read the reviews here I knew that was coming. They offered me an extended warranty, which I would have bought if I had the money. However I figured I have had my first digital camera for 5 years now and my film SLR is about 15 years old and still looks brand new...so I may be lucky with this one too! (*crossing fingers*)

The customer service rep I spoke with was Justin. He said the Rebel was a good choice, he owned one also, we had a good laugh and he said he'd ship it out that day. Sure enough, it was here in 2 days.

I plan to purchase some lenses and other items in the future and I definately would purchase from ButterflyPhoto again.

"I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 8800, reveived it in less than three days. The camera was boxed up in the original package and I opened it up to find that the camera lens cap strap was missing. I called the customer service number, and I received the lens cap strap the next day. Not too shabby since I live in Northern California and they are located in Brooklyn, New York! The price was good and so is their customer service!"

"Purchased a Canon 20D. I was a little nervous about buying from butterflyphoto.com, as it was a big ticket item and I'd never bought anything from them before. But they had a great price on the 18-55 kit, and not bad reviews on RR, so I held my breath and gave them a shot. And I'm very glad I did!

After placing the order online, I had to call them to change the shipping method. The service was friendly enough in that gruff, to-the-point New York kind of way. The change was made quickly and without hassle. There was a brief attempt to sell some other items, but I declined and there was no other pressure or hassles.

I ordered on a Tuesday, and was told the item would ship on Thursday via 3-5 business day FedEx. In fact the item was shipped the very next day, on Wednesday, via 2nd day express, at no extra charge. I recieved the package on Friday.

Overall, a very efficient, positive shopping experience. I would not only recommend butterflyphoto but will likely shop there again.

And by the way, I read some ResellerRatings reviews for other merchants where the merchant contact the buyer after the fact with offers and discounts in exchange for a positive review. For the record, butterflyphoto.com has done no such thing with me. In fact, if they did, I'd definitely call them on it, since that kind of behavior really undermines the nature of a review service like ResellerRatings.com. Peace.

"DO NOT ORDER ACCESSORIES FROM THIS COMPANY!! (also, avoid a CSR named Steve - he's useless) I purchased a Canon ZR400 from them, which I am happy with. HOWEVER, when I ordered, I said that I needed the bigger Canon battery (the model # escapes me now) and a rapid charger. The salesperson said that I was "in luck" because they were running a special, where I could get both together for $150. I went for it. BAD IDEA! The salesperson didn't tell me that the battery was not a genuine Canon battery. Not a problem, except that I found the battery they sent me online and in stores for about $35. The rapid charger that arrived was the wrong one, so I had them send me another - and they sent the same wrong one, then, a week later, after 3 more phone calls, they said that they substituted the charger I had for the sku I ordered. They wanted me to try it, but I wasn't going to use a charger that didn't list my battery model number on it. (I also found similar chargers in stores for around $50, so, so much for the $150 deal on both). I took a month and a half to sort this out to that point. I told them I wanted to return the accessories, (which they told me I would have to pay for shipping, despite their twice screwing up), and they gave me a lot of trouble for that. I talked to a supervisor who said that refunding my shipping shouldn't be a problem. Still waiting for the processing on the return, though, that's not unusual. I got a good deal on the camera, but, obviously, this company makes its money from the accessory game. Don't play that game - just buy the camera only!"

"Originally ordered my Fuji Finepix s5000 on May 11th. THey sent me an email to confirm my order, which I did. It was nothing but a sales pitch, which they were not rude at all. I declined all their offers. He assured it would be shipped out the next day. After I did not receive a tracking # the next day, I called them and they told me it didnt get out, and it would be shipped out on Friday. After Friday I still had no tracking #. I called on Sunday and they stated it had been shipped out friday, but since they close early they dont receive tracking #'s. Well, after I still didnt get a tracking # on Monday, I called and they finally told me that the item was out of stock, and they could cancel my order if they wanted to. I agreedd. They lied to me 3 times, they also charged my card before the item was shipped, they did refund my money, after 3 days. THIS COMPANY IS NOTHING BUT DISHONEST THEIVES. They knew the item was out of stock the whole time and lied to their customers."

"As I have read in many reviews the day after I placed my order they called to confirm my shipping and try to upsell. The sales rep I talked to was very nice and I felt no more pressured to by anything than I do to supersize my value meal at mcdonalds. I did not purchase a single accesory for my projector and it was shipped the next day. I recieved it in perfect condition and I am very happy with the product. By reading the reviews I noticed most bad reviews are from people who have different shipping addresses then their billing address and figure that is their problem. Butterfly photo is just doing their job when they are wanting you to call to confirm your order. This company is legit and provides great products at great prices."

"I purchased the camera online May 8 and was told to contact Brian on May 9.

He requested that I buy additional items along with the current order. I declined and he assured it was being shipped immediately and would receive confirmation that evening.

I contacted the company on May 10 and was told that it was sent for shipping but didn't arrive in time for pickup. It would be shipped that morning and tracking information would be provided.

I contacted the company May 11 at 10:20 am est and spoke with Daniel and was told they had my item ready and it didn't ship for some reason unknown. It was being upgraded to 2nd day air for free and was being shipped immediately.

I contacted the company May 12 and spoke to Daniel again. Now the product is on back order because all 350 units they have in stock are damaged. The entire pallet has damaged boxes and were waiting for replacements. I have requested a refund and reported them to the better business bureau. We shall see how long that takes.

Scam company, their rating is extremely too high.

Update: They have refunded the full amount charged.

Update: In response to above comments, my shipping and billing address are the same. They called me only trying to sell more accessories and to cash in on rebates. This company is dishonest and it seems very few are lucky enough to get their product.

"This was a completely hassle free experience. Ordered Olympus C-7000 by phone from Chris with very little conversation about add-ons. (I knew in advance exactly what I wanted and didn't need or want anything else except the new camera as shipped from the manufacturer.) My order was placed on Wednesday, March 23, 2005. I did not ask or pay for expedited shipping, but received my package in Virginia for the weekend. Everything was USA product, as packaged by Olympus, complete with accessories and US warranty card as advertised. The download of the Olympus $100.00 rebate form was correct and complete. (This has nothing to do with Butterfly, but for your information I got my rebate according to Olympus promise. Of course I followed instructions to the letter.) Chris was courteous, professional, and appropriately bold, as I would want any salesman to be who worked for me. He told me I wouldn't be disappointed in the transaction, and he was indeed right. When I purchase my Canon SLR I intend to purchase it from Chris at Butterfly."

"Read what customers complain, not just the rating. The rating for this store does not look right. I wish I had read what other customers complained. Ordered a camera. I was asked to call back with NO reason. I did not do it because it is rude. I send an email asking either ship or cancel the order. "i got my nikon coolpix 8800 at an amazing price of $695, including shipping and handling; before $100 mail in rebate from nikon. i got the camera shipped to my home address within 5 days of purchase. the package had everything brand new; the camera, accessories and the original nikon warranty. i was amazed to see that the camera was made in japan, not made in china. on the second day, i was called by a sales rep and gave me details about the shipping. he wanted me to buy some accessories but i refused to do so. he was polite and informative. i am 100% satisfied with butterfly photo. and this was my first purchase from them. i give them full marks. "I ordered the Panasonic Lumix dmc-fz5 for $436,subsequently called a "chris" and was bombarded with extra products to purchase. When I politely declined to purchase a memory card, battery, or any other accessory, "chris" responded with an abrupt "we'll be shipping it shortly." and hung up. I called several days later to find that they still had not shipped my item. A rude representative then told me they would ship it "in a few days." I called three days later to find that the camera was on backorder and ended up cancelling my order out of frustration. This was approximatly two and a half weeks after I placed my order. I asked to have them refund my money and am waiting for the them to recredit my credit card. I do not understand how they have such a high rating on such shopping comparison sites as pricegrabber and shopzilla. When I later looked on resellerratings.com, I discovered that others had the same thing happen to them. I would never do buisness with them again. They are a disgrace to Online shopping."

"Placed an order for a Panasonic PV-GS150 camcorder thru their website, which indicated available/in-stock; one week later they hadn't shipped...and finally told me they were out-of-stock! They had called me one day after I placed my order to upsell me on an extra-life battery, which I accepted. I called the day after than to request a shipment tracking number, and was told that the shipping dept would provide one that afternoon: they did not. TWO DAYS after that, I called a THIRD time. Finally they told me that they had not shipped the item, and that they were waiting for more units from Panasonic. At this moment, their website still shows that the camera is in-stock. Beware! [*** UPDATE 5/2/05: Finally received the order, camera and battery, both new and as described, with all accessories.]"

"They had stock, a good price and shipped on time. I received an email requesting that I contact Butterflyphoto about my order, I did call and they wanted to see if I needed any accessories. I didn't need any, they didn't push.
I'm usually suspicious about these up-sell calls because they have been abused by on-line sellers. As long as they are being helpful and not prioritizing who gets a product based on the up-selling success, I don't have a problem.
