"By far the best company out there for pre-built systems! I have 3 laptops from them, all are awsome! My parents got a Dell after I recomended the company to them! There complete care plan rules!!!! OOPs I spilled a drink on my $3000 laptop, OOPs I dropped it!!! NO PROBLEM its covered!!! BEAT THAT! If there is a problem they send me a box to put the Puter in, they pay over night shipping back to them, fix it in less than 24 hrs and pay over night shipping back to me! I have never had a system down/un-useable for more than 48 hrs! WOW is all I can say!!!!! "
"In September, I bought a Dell for my daughter in college. It came with an XP upgrade when released. In November, while on the phone with tech support, I mentioned that I still needed to request the Upgrade.
The tech was very nice, saw I hadn't requested it yet, and said he would gladly place the order. He explained that there was a major
backlog, and it would probable take a few months. Well, here it is June. After going back and forth with Dell, now they ask for
"documentation" to show that I requested it. How do you provide
documentation of a phone call?
Well, I never had this problem with my old Gateway, or HP. They sent what was promised as part of the purchase, in a timely manner.
Today, I'm finished. Dell says that their records show I did order the WinXP Upgrade. Now they are requesting a "xomax" number. I asked if their records show that the upgrade was shipped, only to get asked again for the magic number.
So Michael Dell, this is one customer who won't be back. Two of my co-workers are purchasing school related computers, and I steered them away from Dell. (gee, two lost sales so far! May not mean much, but makes me feel good!) I did what was
requested of me, it's too bad Dell doesn't follow through!"
"Great experience on multiple purchases (three to be exact).
Had one order go through for a 128MB CompactFlash, no hassles, shipped same day for free overnight delivery.
On another occasion I accidently ordered two laser toners and only meant for one, called within 5 minutes of placing the other but it's apparently hard for them to stop their automated processing because it happens so quick. I received both items (again free overnight delivery) and they mailed me a FedEx return form to ship it back to them at no cost, and refunded my credit card immediately.
Third time I purchased a back-ordered item (WD 120GB HD) and was kept in the loop via email with an ETA at time of purchase and a shipment notification about 10 days later, right in line with their ETA.
I have highly recommended Dell to friends who have had great experiences with them as well."
"I was rather disappointed dealing with Dell. I ordered a Lite-On 16X DVD drive from them and didn't recieve the package for two weeks.
The order was placed on the 2nd, but I didn't recieve it until the 15th... making it nearly 2 WEEKS. As you can imagine, it made me quite disgruntled. The site is rather hard to navigate, and there are a lot of problems with order status tracking on the site... I don't know if it was just me, but I had a lot of trouble with this site.
I'd be hesitant to deal with Dell again, but if an occasional good deal came along, I still might consider dealing with them."
"Shame on Dell! I ordered a Canon Powershot S200 because they had a great price and the camera was in stock. After submitting my order they said that the camera wouldn't ship for ONE WEEK!!! Needless to say I flipped out and called Dell customer service that instant. The rep promised to cancel my order. Okay, worse things have happened. But apparently they had the gall to ship the camera anyway and today the camera actually arrived. Unbelievable. When I tried to return it I got lost in an absurd phone menu maze. AVOID DELL!! DO NOT BUY PERIPHERALS FROM DELL OR YOU WILL GET SCREWED. I only wish I had checked resellerratings.com before I placed my order."
"Assured me camera would be shipped 3/17/03 when I placed order by phone. I called 3/17/03 because online status showed "in production." Rep had no further info. Called 3/19/03 because online status still showed "in production." Same rep as when I ordered said camera was back-ordered with ETA 4/16/03. I asked to cancel; he replied he couldn't cancel an order that was "in production." I replied "that's Dell's problem; if it's shipped I'll refuse delivery & have credit card remove charge." Emailed Michael Dell the details of this debacle; heard back from someone in his office asking how they could help & requesting order #,etc. I replied with requested info on 3/21/03; no further communication. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM DELL AGAIN since I've had similar experiences previously. This episode seems to be their standard MO."
"purchased a WD 120gb drive for a great price, product was backordered, but I was kept in the loop and the product arrived a week later."
"ordered the liteon cdrw and the wd 80gb hd. email confirmations were prompt and informative. service and shipping was fast. tracking was provided.
excellent!"
"I placed an order for a Lite On 40/12/48 cd-rw on 4/15/02. The site said that it still have it in stock. Because of the cheap price, everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. Next day it showed out of stock. I called up dell 2 days later to cancel my order. I got this ignorant customer service rep. told me that the order has been ship and that i cannot cancel it, she said that when the package arrive, just don't sign the paper. Well, 15 days later the package arrive! First off, the CSR lied to me about the package already being ship because the postmark said that the date ship out is about 4 days before i got it. That was 15 days ago that i talked to her. I don't know why they would tried to lie to me so that i couldn't cancel my order even though they're out of stock. BTW, i didn't sign any paper to receive the cd-rw, it just sit there on my front step when i got home. Now i'm stuck with the bill because of the stupid CSR. It's not worth it to pay shipping back to dell to get my $ back from the cd-rw"
"My last 2 computers have been Dells, and they have been reliable, if unspectacular. Deciding to upgrade to a P4 2.0Ghz and enticed by roughly $600 of rebates, I took the plunge. Big mistake.
The system never worked right, and there is no way it was burned in, given the lightning fast turnaround. The whole thing smelled of "refurbished", and my video card died after THREE DAYS. The new one, also refurbished, never worked either.
Tech support was atrocious. Half of my calls were routed to India, where the techs, while friendly, were hard to understand and completely unknowledgeable. I spent 7 hours on the phone one day, most of it trying to get the techs to understand that yes, I had already updated my drivers, and yes, I had already re=installed XP, etc.
The only positive was that I got to get my money back, and now I'm staying away from Dell."
"Dell is EXTREMELY slow at shipping compared to some of the better resellers. I ordered a hard drive on 4/23, it didn't get in UPS's hands until 4/29 and I won't get it until 5/6. Although I got a good deal on the hard drive, I probably won't order from them again until they get much better at order processing."
"Excellent customer service, free shipping, excellent pricing. I will be doing alot of future business with dell.com"
"I bought three systems this past year, all delivered sooner than promised. The latest had a broken trim strip (probably caused by rough handling in shipping) for which they overnight shipped a replacement. I requested the replacement via email, only sending them a single message."
"I ordered a 8200 P4 2.0Ghz, 80G HD, 64MB Video, SBLive sound, CDRW, WinXP, 256MB RAMBUS (Will upg to 512 cheaper) with no monitor (I have an Hitachi 19 inch with .20 DPI), all for $1000 (include several discount offers). Placed order on 3/19, received system arrived on 3/25, way ahead of schedule. Customer Rep was excellent. I love this machine! Keep up the good work!
Dude, I got a Dell!"
"Dell sales/support is getting downright horrible.
I pre-purchased a Canon S200 from them. I don't mind waiting for the camera as there are manufacturer delays. My problem is with Dells handling of the situation.
Yesterday I received an email saying there would be a substantial delay in fulfilling my order. No problem as I am not in a hurry. But the email states if I don't respond to them by 4/17 to let them know that I want to continue my order they will cancel it.
I respond to the email stating that I can wait for the camera, no problem, but get no response to confirm this.
I decide to check my status on their website, but all it states is "Delay call for ETA." Problem is they give no number to call.
I go back to the email as I remember it listing a number. I call the number and decide to try the phone-based order status. It tells me that my order has been sent to the manufacturer for fulfillment. Sounds like it must be ready to ship.
I decide to call again and talk to someone. They list an extension of 66966 in the email. So I call this. Talk to a nice woman, she tells me she has no way of knowing if they received my email confirmation and she has no idea when my order will ship. She makes a note that I called to confirm but cannot guarantee that my order won't be cancelled. I need to talk to another extension as they are the ones that actually cancel orders. That extension is 62032, she transfers me and the voice mail system tells me my wait will be 14 minutes. I decide not to burn 15 more minutes on my cel phone trying to confirm this now. I will try later from a land line.
Dell really seems to be in disarray. What a mess of a system. Shame, they used to be good.
