The truth is, I’m a struggling college student. After working all through college, and for the past 3 summers, I decided to make monthly payments for a trip to Greece. It was supposed to be a graduation gift to myself. Then, due to the pandemic, EF cancelled my trip!!! Okay, I can totally understand that the pandemic is out of their control, but what happened next and how they have treated me shows just how unethical they are as a company:

Since EF cancelled my trip, I requested a refund. Seems simple, right? They cancelled my trip... I should get my money back. As tough as things are, I could really use that money to pay rent, utilities, and buy food. I can’t afford to have $3000 sitting in SOMEONE ELSE’S account to travel SOMEDAY, when I don’t even know what is going to happen to my family or myself. EF wants to charge me $450 if they refund the money... even though THEY cancelled the trip!

I tried to reason with them! I cried! I threatened! I begged! I even told them they could keep my deposit of $150, but the manager was unwilling to help me, demanding $450 if I wanted the money back for a trip THEY CANCELLED!

As a struggling college student, they have shown me not one shred of empathy. I trusted them... and now, they want to punish me for requesting a refund on a trip THEY cancelled! When I asked why they wanted to keep $450 of my money, they told me it was for “booking expenses,” but THEY CANCELLED THE TRIP! There is no flight! No hotel! No information of any kind. THERE ARE NO BOOKING EXPENSES BECAUSE THEY CANCELLED THE TRIP!!!

I urge everyone to protect themselves, especially students... DO NOT BOOK TRAVEL WITH THIS UNETHICAL COMPANY!"

"I booked a "highlights of Europe Trip" (including travel insurance) for about $5,000 in October of 2019 for June of 2020. In March we were notified that the trip had been cancelled due to COVID-19. The company offered free rebookings for trips over the next two years. As a new college graduate starting a job in September, rebooking a 24 day trip two years in advance is not an option for me. I asked for a refund for my trip and the company charged $450 in "cancellation fees" and did not refund the $200 spent on travel insurance. I filed an insurance claim to recover the $650 not returned to me and the insurance company denied my claim. Do not book with this company. "

"I loved being able to just show up with a suitcase and passport to go on amazing trips and know that I was seeing as much as possible. Gustavo was amazing and knew so much, and my favorite thing was that he knew a lot about the plants and animals local to the area. I did so much and really enjoyed my trip!"

"While I wouldn’t do EF again (I don’t believe the price is worth it, I planned a month long UK trip by myself that came out to be significantly less than a 2 week UK trip with EF) I did appreciate how amazing my guide was. He was also from the UK and had extra tips, recommendations and stories for us. Honestly he’s the only reason I’d consider doing an EF trip again. I do wish we would’ve had some more time in each city. Usually we had just a handful of hours up to one day free. The rest of the time was group tours/scheduled activities and travel time. If you have the option I’d recommend a single or double room vs the standard 4-6 ppl rooms. We had one girl that was super sick and she ended up getting everyone else she roomed with sick. Also not every roommate has the same courtesy/respect so I would again recommend bunking with as few people as possible. I really fell in love with the UK due to this trip and am thankful for the introduction."
