"I had made a purchase with this company a few months earlier and was completely satisfied, especially with the price. Then in February I ordered a CPU and (against my better judgement)two Geil 256MB PC3200 DDR memory modules. Before this I had sworn by namebrand memory only. (Kingston and Crucial)
I was happy with everything but was plagued with a BSOD about every two hours while running Windows 2000. I assumed since I was able to run RedHat Linux 8.0 for days without any problems at all, that maybe my Windows install was screwed up. Then about two months later, it happened, RedHat crashed and rebooted. Then I knew it had to be a hardware problem, so I used MemTest86 to check each module and they were both bad. So, I requested an RMA and probably ten days later voila, two new memory modules. I decided to make sure that these two were good and tested each one. Well, one turned out to be good, but the other, not. So, another RMA, and to make a really, really long story just long, I shipped back a total of at least five modules. And at least twice they were backordered.
About a month ago, I got fed up and called tech support and talked to someone about just getting my money back since I had already blown about $20 shipping their defective memory back. He said since it had been so long since I had first ordered it (hmmm.. who's fault is that, BTW) that I was really lucky, he would help me out and give me the current price, less 15%. Seeing as how that was now about half what I paid, I was a little upset. Or, he said, I could get a store credit for the original amount, less 8%. A store credit is no good if the store doesn't have anything you want, so I asked him to let me check out their current selection of memory before I decided. He said, fine just call or email me to let me know. Well I emailed him about three times, but he apparently completely ignored them (I used return receipts, I know he read them)
So, here it is almost seven months later, and I called and asked for the same guy and finally made a deal with him to get a store credit for about 80% of what I paid in the beginning. (restocking fee?? for a defective product?? if they restock defective products that explains a lot!!) I'm going to use the credit to buy some Kingston RAM. They didn't have this particular module back in Feb. I probably shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch, but I will be fairly happy if he delivers what he promised. I'm just really anxious to resolve this whole thing. It's only added more stress to my life and believe me, I've got plenty to start with as a junior in computer science.
I guess this horrible experience was not really GameVE's fault just for stocking a very low quality product, but I will not likely be making any more future purchases there because of the ignored emails. I really believe it's probably not a bad place to buy from, but as with any place you shop, stay the heck away from non-namebrands. Go for the good stuff. Ordered a MSI FX5900 but received ASUS V9950 FX5900 instead. Called their 1-800 # and was pleased that there was no press this or that bull---- A REAL PERSON RIGHT AWAY!
The rep was helpful said that the MSI was on backorder and that they automaticly upgrade the order with no additional charge. Considering that the ASUS cost more, and is a cooler running card I thought this fair.
