"Went to the Deforest, WI store and got great service from Jeff K. He found me a good deal on a used shotgun - he also installed a choke tube, sling and sights. He mentioned some extras I might need without up-selling me. Now I'm ready for turkey season - I will go back to Jeff if I need something from Gander"
"Ordered a camping stove from Gander. Price shown online was less than elsewhere and, having been to several of their brick and mortar locations, I thought I'd be okay ordering from their website.
Unfortunately, there were several issues:
1.) You can purchase any item on their website - even if they don't have it in stock. There is no indication whether an item is actually available or not.
2.) Prices on line can be significantly less than in the store.
3.) Items ordered online may be unavailable but still be in their store locations - if you are willing to pay a higher price you can simply purchase the item in the store.
4.) After you order, you will get a confirmation of your purchase that states that "in stock" items will ship in 1 business day. They don't tell you what happens if an item is not in stock - not that you would have any way of knowing whether it is in stock or not.
5.) In my case, the item was not in stock. I received no email notification and eventually contacted Gander. I was told that the item was backordered but would ship soon. It did not.
6.) I finally received an email stating that the order would ship almost 1 month (!) from my order date. Add another week for shipping, and I'm looking at exactly one month from ordering to delivery... That is unacceptable.
Frankly, if you sell items on your website, these items should actually be available. If they are not, don't list them or, at the very least, make it clear that customers might have to wait for up to a month to receive their items.
Second, if items sell for a certain price in the company's web store, I would expect that they honor their own prices in their physical stores. That Gander doesn't do so speaks volumes.
I will say that their customer service was quick and responsive - although I cannot, yet, attest to the actual result of my cancellation request. You see, I was informed that my cancellation request has to be forward to some "drop ship" agent who will, then, contact me. In other words, I may or may not have cancelled my order- even though I clearly requested a cancellation. We'll see. I have taken screen shots of my cancellation request - just in case...
With all that said, purchasing from Gander Mountain was a huge disappointment. I will NOT be back. My business goes to the competition. I advise you to skip Gander Mountain as well."
"So I shopped at Gander Mountian way back when they first opened stores in Colorado. Mainly the Aurora store. They used to be fair and have great deals, but I think Corporate BS and greed took over. This is mainly the fact in the firearms department. I used to sell them my used firearms and get a fair deal for my sale. Lately though it has gotten out of hand. First I would like to say that thier sales prices in firearms are more than any other store's regular prices. I went to 3 different GM stores to sell them two used, but new pistols in the box like new and got 3 different prices and 3 different excuses each time on why they should give me so little for my firearms. I know how they work. They used to take 20%, then 30%, now it's 40% after blue book value. My nephew recently bought a new 1911 pistol from them for over $1,000. He had it for a couple of weeks and realized it was way too big for him. He never even shot it so he brought it back and they told him they would give him $400 max. They told him they could only sell it for around $500 used. He sold it back to them, then a few days later went back and they had it there for sale for $850. WOW. They tried to do the same thing to me last night. I paid $650 and $700 for two guns I recently bought new and put less than 15 rounds through each one. They then told me they could only give me $300 for each one. WHATEVER!!! So that's like selling them one gun for less than half of what I recently paid for it, and giving them the other one for free. They had the gun I wanted in stock but they want $799 for it and every gun store in town is selling the same gun for $719. Also. Their spare Glock mags are almost $50 each when everyone else in town has the same ones for $28-$30. I don't think I will ever step foot in one of their stores again. I just took my guns to Cabela's and got $100 more for each gun I was selling. That's an extra $200 in my pocket and Cabela's didn't play games with me. The ONLY reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the girl at the cash register on my way out was very nice. "
"Place is going down hill fast, purchased a frabill ice fishing jacket and bibs, bibs were to small , so the girl at the register said no problem she could oder it online right at the register, I told her i could get the jacket here and get the bibs elswhere, many stores around us had them, she said they are on sale now and it would ship the next day (there site says ships next day). so I told her to go ahead and do it, cause I needed them for the following weekend for ice fishing, then the price went from $92 to $161??? she said when I get it,to bring it in and they will adjust the price, now 4 days later , nobody knows when they will ship!I called and asked what about the ships next day? they said they usually ship within 5 days! and that they wont be shipping someone else will be , i said why does your web site and your employeees say differently? he ignored me and asked if there was anything else he could do? then ended the conversastion !. GO ELSWHERE , SAVE THE STRESS. G.smith"
"I purchased a had gun offline and had it shipped to the ROCHESTER,MN location. The gun came in at 1pm the shop doesn't close till 9pm. The young kid behind the counter said it wont be ready till tomorrow morning, which i though was odd considering they still had 8 hours to get the gun into the system. So while my brother and i were waiting i simply asked the question "what are the laws concerning buying a firearm as a gift?" Due to the ever changing BS laws that our government likes to pass. This young kid interpreted it as the gun i bought for myself was for my brother and went to get another salesmen. The guy told me the gun wouldn't be ready till tomorrow and never answered my question. So i went back in the next day and said i was there to pick up my gun finally and lone behold he said with a smug grin the KID from yesterday was under the impression that you were purchasing this gun for the guy you were with and we cant sell you the gun and have to give you a refund back. I will never ever step foot in this unprofessional business again and advise all my friends and family to do the same. For someone to miss interrupt something way out of context and to treat me like im a criminal is just ridiculous. Makes me so angry and upset to see where our great country is today. The overall ratings for this shi* business shows that everyone agrees."
"Had Gander Mountain in McDonough Ga. order a new Colt for me after a week I call to see if it ever came in, was told ya its here guess they were not going to let me know!
Picked it up inspected it everything looked good took it home broke it down and cleaned went to the range had a few failure to go into battery issues in the first 100 rounds. Ok its new took it in stripped cleaned next 200 rounds it only got worse 2 out of every mag after another 50 I gave up.
Jan 21 20015: Got an e-mail from the store manager, Stated if and when the firearm ever gets back and I'm not happy with it they will let me return for a refund!!! We shall see, I will give them an upgraded star for now to fair on customer service.
Gander Mountain was the best, not only took back the defective firearm but ordered a new replacement.
Thank You Gander Thank to the store Manager and the Manager of the firearms department."
"I attempted to purchase a handgun from Gandermountain.com. After charging my credit card for it, they informed me that the FFL dealer they had on file was no longer accepting transfers. I had my FFL dealer send them information the same day and in that time they sold the gun that I had already paid for. They ordered a replacement for me and offered me free overnight shipping "for the inconvenience". I was scheduled to pick it up from the FFL dealer today when I got a call from Gander Mountain that they ONCE AGAIN sold the gun that I had already paid for and they no longer had any in stock. They offered me nothing more than free shipping on another gun, which was $200 more than the original - no additional discount or credit for screwing me over twice. My purchase permit expires in a week, they wont be able to refund me my money for 3 business days. Thanks to Gander Mountain, I now need to reapply for a purchase permit, which will take at least 2 months to get. I will NEVER give them my business again. "
"Walk in the Twinsburg Ohio store today place was dead at Noon and i can see why. The girl at customer service desk look so bored, the 2 guys at the gun and ammo area was to busy looking for cars on the computer that i had to approach them to ask a question. I was looking to buy a gun but decided that i would be better off driving to fin feather fur much cheaper prices. This place had about 5 employees working today and about 20 people in it not one employee bothered to ask if we needed anything or if we had a problem finding anything. I did end up buying about $40 worth of stuff i asked if they have VETERAN discount nope only for boy scout then she ask me if i was a boy scout REALLY!!!"
"Uninformed sales associates about sums up my experience there...they would not accept my out of state hunting lic as proof to buy in state lic.. they demanded i ONLY could produced hunter safety cert which i naturally tossed after i bought my hunting lic many years ago....you cant get a hunting lic unless u take hunter safety !!!.. regs clearly state past lic. OR hunter safety cert....AAAAA!!! an hour of my life I'd like back.. can I file theft somewhere? I went to Walmart.."
"I purchased online a product that was to be picked up in store by relative bc I was on a deadline for getting it for a gift for husband. When relative went to pick it up for me (after receiving email notification that my order was ready to be picked up and had been charged to me) they told her that they didn't have any in stock when she got there. They then gave her store credit (which is against policy) for my item and refused to send me what I ordered at what I believe should have been no cost to me. So they totally screwed up a bday gift and left me with no time or way to replace it. It was my worst experience ever with customer service and it clearly is about the dollar to them and not if they keep or aquire new customers. "
"Purchased an Outdoor Research sun hat for men at Gander Mountain. Hat is hot, does not have any ventilation and hard to keep on the head due to the floppy brim. Submitted a negative but realistic review twice thru their website but it was never posted. Gander Mountain does not post any negative reviews; they are screened by a company called Power Reviews. Not an honest thing to do. "
"I ordered two sportsman chairs online item# 770374 which shows a fishing rod holder on the right side of the chair. When I received the chairs they did not have fishing rod holders on them. When I called them about this, their represent told me that this is a stock picture from their supplier and that the item does not come with the fishing rod holders. Gander mountain does not care if they do a bait and switch on the customers."
"Gander Mountain... Always OUT-OF-STOCK when their sale comes out via email. They know darn well they dont have any stock of .22lr ammo when they advertise it during their sale.
Unsubscribe me liars!"
"Absolutely horrible. I purchased a kayak from them the online. It was suppose to be shipped out the next day according to the only e-mail I ever received from them. Called them two weeks ago and they told me that it would be shipped in 10-12 days from when I placed my order. Still no kayak...I called them back to the most rudest customer service department I have ever dealt with in my life and was passed around to a couple of people then given to the customer service supervisor Alan (who would not give me his last name) he basically told that it now was going to 4 to six weeks before it is shipped and he was not going to do anything to help.I will never never order anything from this company again. so frustrated because I have to scrambled and find a kayak in a week before I go on vacation.Very bad customer service."
"Spent one hour purchasing a handgun at Gander Mountain in Jacksonville, Florida. Gander Mountain store makes even concealed carry permit holders complete and pay for a background check. After paying for the item and preparing to exit the store a supervisor approached and ordered me to take the gun to the return register and get a refund as my paperwork shown my home address in Jacksonville, Florida did not match my Florida Drivers License address. (In Florida many people use their work address such as Police Officers.) The individual was furnished my Sheriffs Office ID, my Military ID and still demanded I return the firearm. This store is very nice and well stocked however customer service is almost non existent. A new Bass Pro Shop opening in August nearby will end this store because of this. Its a shame because the store is close to my home. JT"
