"We've had our pergola 8 years. The original tarp lasted about 4 years, then split when we got an early snow. I made one from heavy duck cloth that also lasted 4 years. Our pergola gets alot of afternoon sun, even though for we have it up for only 5-6 months of the year as we're in the Cleveland area. I searched for a tarp cover and came across the site where I was able to order a tarp just like the original but with several improvements. The material is much more water resistant. It also has rivet holes so that rain water can drain out easily. It's only been up a couple weeks but has proven itself to be just what we were hoping for!"
