"I thought that I should share my experience of doing business with GlobalMediaPro as a warning to others who might be thinking of buying from them.

I decided to purchase some of their video equipment, as they were reputed to be based in New Zealand and had a company set up in the UK. I figured that this would reduce the chance of me receiving poorly made junk from China. The price was very reasonable, and I was hoping that my experience would be a good one so that I could use them again for future purchases.

I was to be crushingly disappointed.

The first odd thing I encountered was that after placing an order with them, they wanted payment by direct bank transfer rather than any online payment system through their website. A bit weird, but I thought I’d take the chance and see what happened.

A few days after sending payment, I had an email confirming dispatch. So far so good. Delivery took a further week, and finally the item arrived – from China, along with a hefty customs charge.

On opening the package, I noticed that the item rattled when moved, as if something was loose inside. I was fairly certain that it wasn't supposed to make a rattling noise, and confirmed my fears when I plugged it in and it didn't work.

Never-mind. I would just get in touch with them, report the fault, and arrange for a return and replacement.

Then I got the response back from their very rude customer service team. "Please let us know how you have tried to modify the unit."

I was baffled. Maybe they had misunderstood? I replied, explaining that I had not attempted to modify the unit, and that it was faulty on delivery. I attached a photo demonstrating the very visible soldering fault, proving that no modification had been attempted.

Their reply "We will not replace the unit as you have attempted to repair it." So it's "repair" now instead of "modify"? At least they could have been consistent in their accusations.

I explained (again) that no modification or repair had been attempted, but they flatly refused to deal with my complaint any further.

On balance, and to be as honest as possible in my review, I should add that I also ordered two reasonably priced batteries as part of the same order, which worked on arrival. What a shame the rest of my experience was so negative.

So, my conclusion of GlobalMediaPro: a company providing a "lucky dip" of faulty goods, and awful customer service if you happen to get something that doesn't work. Stay away from them – you have been warned!

"Ordering at Globalmediapro? Prepare to lose it all (and get barked at in return)

Hi!

Are You planning to buy something at Globalmediapro? Take two minutes and read my story first. I wish somebody would have written that before I wired them my money.

As a fresh and happy owner of a Red Epic, I decided to buy 3 Li160s and a charger for a total of 830 Euro in April this year. I had done some research online and it seemed like a good deal to me. Full of confidence in this world I wired the money upfront.

However, when the parcel reached Germany, I didn´t get any notification for customs. When I phoned customs, they told me about security problems with sending Li-Ion batteries via plane. (Globalmediapro later claimed I failed to come and pick up the parcel. All I know is that I did not receive any notification.) But no matter what happened at this time, that´s not the point.

So the parcel went back to New Zealand. Globalmediapro told me to wait until the package would come back.

I had to write them every six weeks to make them remember my case, which is bad customer service in my eyes to begin with. Then they told me it was in their terms of trade that as soon as the package is at customs, they are out of any responsibility for it.

This may be so, I wrote back. But it couldn´t possibly be in their interest to have customers lose it all in a case like this. After all we are living in the fine new Internet age and I would certainly try to share my story with other interested people.

For an answer I got this: "If you need our help with the situation, please immediately withdraw your illegal defamation threats." - Which I (as a native non-English speaker) translated as: Shut up You Gangster or You won´t get anything at all.

But, now having reached September, this nice remark slowly loses its bite. Since in August they wrote me a beautiful one liner for a finish: We have not received the shipment yet. We suspect it was lost by the courier.

If it wasn´t for my money I would have liked to laugh about that. "We suspect it was lost…please just forget about Your 830 Euros (1100 Dollars) and have a nice day."

So my advice to everybody planning to buy at Globalmediapro out there: There are hidden costs in the terms of trade of this company - if something goes wrong at customs Your money may be lost - all of it. And my experience told me: Don´t count on the cooperation of Globalmediapro in this case.

"Purchased a Sony FS700 videocamera from GMP, when the camera arrived it had approximately 10 dead pixels on the LCD. I contacted GMP and they said to take it to a service centre to receive a quote for repair.

When I supplied GMP with the quote, they said they will only cover the repair if the repair centre (which is Sony Australia) states 'manufactures fault' on the quote. Sony says they only do this if there is the possibility of a product recall, which in this case there is not. This unit simply failed.
Sony agreed that the 'product was faulty' (not due to customer use), and listed this in the quote notes.
GMP refuse to pay for the repair, on a camera that arrived with a faulty LCD. Numerous emails and they still won't accept that the warranty they supply isn't worth a cent.

The supplied camera invoice, hasn't a camera serial number, hence it is difficult to track where it was bought and shipped from. I have asked yet I get no reply. I have left feedback on GMP's website (which I was emailed and asked to do), which has disappeared. This is why unfortunately it has come to this forum.

Correspondence with GMP is poor, they won't answer direct questions, they simply copy and paste the same terms of their warranty in their emails, as I'm sure they will do again here.
Stonewalling.
I have had to pay for the repair myself, and will chase GMP through consumer affairs. BUYER BEWARE, GMP will not cover the warranty of a new camera that arrived faulty!

"Purchased a Canon XH-1AS camcorder from GMP and it arrived, surprisingly, from Singapore and not from New Zealand after a few days. The usual Canon warranty cards, which are normally included were conveniently missing but the user manual was in the box. We only used the XH-1AS a couple of times then connected it to a PC with the camcorder switched off and PC on and zap....firewire gone.

Globalmediapro refused to honour Canon's 12 month factory warranty (for which we had no warranty cards) and claimed their own terms of trade conditions overrode the manufacturer's warranty and irrespective of what was written in the XH-1AS user manual, the damaged firewire port was not claimable because the PC was not switched off upon firewire connection. For Globalmediapro it was probably only an insurance claim, but they decided to alienate the customer instead. No further correspondence was entered into by us.

Firewire is like USB with design specifications from inventor and developer "Apple" allowing hot swappable. The camcorder manual allows this proceedure to occur.

Canon Aust/NZ advised us that, had the camcorder been purchased from authorised agents in Australia the repair was covered under warranty. Canon Aust/NZ would not cover the repair as this purchase was deemed a "grey import". They did however give us a discount on the labour costs and we now have a Canon Australia/NZ warranty. We will be reporting the matter to Canon Japan shortly. The repair still cost over AUS$1100 which of course we had to pay, plus inconvenience. We will never purchase from GMP again.

Further, we will not be removing this review either, as TRUTH IS NOT NEGOTIABLE and we will not be intimidated.

"If you are in the EU be very careful before you buy any products from this company. Their prices they quote may not include the tax duty that you will have to pay if the product is exported from outside the EU. I have been forced to pay a massive amount of tax duty which was not included in the price that I paid to the company's European bank account. The tax bill arrived about two months after the equipment was received so I could not return it because I had already used it. Read the small print and choose a company that is very accurate and open in the way they promote the full cost of their items!! I would never recommend a company that like operates this. Totally despicable use of hidden costs to achieve a competitive advantage !!!"
