"I preordered a game and later got it for free (with a video card) so I cancelled my preorder. Instead of refunding the money to my CC it was given back to me as credit. Now it's going to be expired because ... reasons? That's some shady business. Add to that the zero communication GMG has had with their angry customers during this entire ordeal.
This company does not realize the value of a happy customer. It's certainly worth more than the $15 you will be stealing from me."
"Here's the gist of it...
GMG buys their activation keys from distributors located in countries where games are cheaper than would be by purchasing directly from the publisher. This often means that you will end up with a key that can't be activated, the key will be delivered late, or make a pre-purchase that's missing its pre-order exclusive content.
GMG is also happy to revoke everyone's store credit with little warning. They gave everyone about 2 weeks notice before extending the date to 4 weeks. Hardly any decent sales happened in this period, meaning there was little value to be found for those of us with any credit left. Instead most of us opted to frantically purchasing something we didn't want before the expiry date. In typical fashion, the expiry date was delayed.
GMG staff do not communicate to the users on their own forums, instead they will respond ASAP to anyone on a third-party site like Reddit or Twitter, but can't be bothered to spend any time in their own home.
They've recently been banned from the subreddit /r/GameDeals for their shady practices of dealing with "authorised distributors" rather than with the publisher. Many publishers have pulled their back catalogue of games from GMG in recent years.
Their support staff take literal weeks to respond to your ticket. They always have excuses for this since every major release seems to have problems related to the "authorised" keys they send customers. This happens constantly.
Their website is a terrible mess of code, purchasing with PayPal does not let you review your purchase before submitting it, instead you'll go from the PayPal page straight to having purchased the product.
Their voucher system often doesn't work and the conditions applied to them aren't always true. For instance, a recent 30% off code to compensate users for a late delivery of keys says it can be used site-wide. As people soon found out, this is false. Another example is the ANZ voucher that they promised would last 10 years but is never updated when a new game is released, so it's basically useless.
If you are located outside of the US or UK, GMG can mislead you with low prices only for you to discover that they're priced in another currency. Sometimes they'll show your country code in the title of the game, making you think it's priced in your local currency. This isn't always the case. Then you're suddenly struck with conversion and international fees upon purchase.
GMG is a mess, the prices are great because they purchase most of their high-profile keys from distributors located in low socioeconomic countries. It's likely that your money isn't supporting the developer as much as it should in these cases. If you care about this then you should definitely avoid GMG, otherwise it's only a matter of time until you'll be experiencing these kinds of issues yourself."
"Long time viewer viewer of Green Man Gaming. First and last time buyer/user of their system. I am one of the many many people that have pre-ordered the Star War Battlefront (PC) game that have been unpleasantly surprised with not only the fact that there was no preload option but there wasn't even a key available on launch day. The GMG forum is currently filled with 23 pages of complaints not only of the planning of GMG but their reaction to the frustrated clients.
A day prior to the launch those that preordered the game were given this email:
"There’s been a disturbance in the force.
We know that Star Wars Battlefront is one of the most anticipated titles to be released this month, and we have seen an unprecedented demand from you; so much so that we have already exhausted our current stock of keys. This is an oversight on our part, and for that we are sincerely sorry.
What does this mean?
More keys are on their way to us, but the disappointing news is that some of your orders will only be fulfilled after release date. We are working with more distributors than ever to ensure that every single person who ordered Star Wars Battlefront will get their order within 48 hours of release. Many thousands of you will not be affected, but for those of you who might be, we apologise in advance.
Our guarantee:
We guarantee that every single person who has bought a copy of Star Wars Battlefront from us and receives this email will have their orders fulfilled and keys delivered before the end of THURSDAY 19TH NOVEMBER. Some of you will receive your key immediately, some a little later, but ALL orders will be fulfilled as promised.
We apologise for the inconvenience to you, so by our way of saying thanks for your patience and support, we would like to offer you a 30% off site-wide voucher, which will be delivered after we have fulfilled your order.
Thanks again for your patience and understanding."
Granted it's only a 2 day wait but there were many fanatics (I not being one of them) that actually took vacation time to enjoy the experience. There were people that made the choice between time/money and the game and now they are shut out. GMG's reply to it all was that you can get a refund but it was on a per customer basis and the method of doing so was to submit a support ticket. The support info on refund requests further confused the matter as this would violate their terms and not be subject to a refund. From what I've read the support system usually takes 1-2 hours for a reply was as my first reply was that they are experiencing a high volume of ticket requests (due to the debacle). My request was processed in about 8 hours.
There were no further attempts to apologize and no guilt for ruining your day, you were merely a number and here's you money go elsewhere. The 30% off voucher amounts to nothing as they run 25% - 30% off deals frequently on their site. So all in all their feeble attempts at remedying the situation fell far shorter than any respectable company.
As I stated previously, this would be the first and LAST time I deal with such an immature company such as this. It's not worth the $15 in savings. "
"I pre-ordered Star Wars: Battlefront from CMG like 2 months ago. Then come to find out they sold keys they don't actually have. So I go to the forums. This is so insane, I read all the negative comments about the game being possibly being a couple days late because of the overselling of keys. I thought to myself, "Hmmmmmm, well maybe they will still get the key to me in time, since I ordered it two months ago, and everything will be fine."
I sit and watch others play the game and listen to my friends having a blast. I start to become slightly more irritated knowing I am missing on out so much of the hype just to save 15 dollars. I think to myself again, "Well I got tons of other games to play, I guess I can wait a day or two...not too big of a deal."
Then I get my key today. I go to enter it and its invalid. I spend about 30 mins figuring out if I am not entering it right or whats the problem. Looks like origin is having server problems due to high consumer useage, so I deal with this inconvenience too. All said and done, I lost a week of Pre-order goods, hours of my time, stress about resolution, and much more just to save 15 dollars. At this point I am finally realizing how stupid I am. I make more than 15 dollars an hour, and I just wasted so many hours on this scandal. NEVER EVER AGAIN.
EDIT: Greenmangaming.com sent me a replacement key that worked. It took a day or so but eventually they came through. I may use CMG to buy lesser anticipated games in the future but probably not hyped triple AAA games. Thanks for the replacement key."
"they did clear up the invalid key in a timely fashion. "
"I pre-ordered a game 3 weeks ago from GMG. I wasn't sure when I would get my cd key so I made sure to check their knowledge base. It clearly stated I would receive a pre-order cd key that day of or a few days prior to the release. I anticipated this game and prepared my day around it. Waited by my phone all day for the email. It never came. Finally, at 9:00 pm (mind you this was a midnight release the night before!) I decide to check the forums and realize they don't even have enough cd keys. I also found out through the forums that they didn't know exactly when they would have enough keys. They took money from thousands of people, with the agreement they'd get the game the day of or the day before. I didn't even receive an email informing me that they didn't have enough keys. I just requested a refund and had to order through Origin. Now that I'm ordering through a different company the day of release, I don't get the bonus items of being a pre-order customer."
"GMG took my payment on 11/8 (Order 23cebb5e) for the advertised Star Wars Battlefront 2 NA key, promising delivery on 11/17.
On 11/16 I get an email stating: "You may get a key tomorrow, but maybe not, perhaps by 11/19.. but it may not be a NA key... oops, sorry!"
On 11/17, the day my product is supposed to be avail per the terms of the purchase, GMG has failed to deliver the key as advertised, so I've asked for a full refund though they have yet to respond.
FYI: This company sells UNAUTHORIZED keys - publishers they openly advertise on the GMG site have said they do not represent them... BUYER BEWARE!!! "
"Green Man Gaming advertised Fallout 4 (AU) $60 with a 20% discount code, even at the payment screen it showed it as Fallout 4 (AU) $60. Paid with PayPal which also showed the price at $60 then I read my PayPal Payment Email, I was charged for $60 American not Aussie (AU) which equates to (AU) $88.30. This is the worst case of false advertising I've encountered on any Game Code Site, the product was clearly shown as for sale at (AU) $60, I even had my Wife and friends look at it and they all agreed. So I have paid what is almost the same as the highest retail shop price in Australia and (AU) $20 dearer than the best online price from an Australia site. I bought from green man gaming as there reviews appeared pretty good and the price was comparable to other online sites. What a damn huge mistake that was, lucky I did not look for the Season pass as well or I would have been ripped of even more.
I will never buy from them again and if they do finally reply to my support ticket I expect a damn good reason for this incorrect pricing and a refund of (AU) $28.30c. Come on GMG why do you advertise products at (AU) prices but then charge (USD) even my order receipt from you shows it as Fallout 4 (AU) $60????????????????????????????????"
"Fraudulent service be careful another gray market keys reseller
unfortunately i had a horrible experience with the site, i thought i would save money buy buying StarWars Battlefront and Fallout 4 this Friday from GMG given that they were running a 20% discount on SW and a 10% November month promo discount.
simply went to check out, paid, my card get charged for the total amount; and ... i do not get any confirmation or the codes for the games i purchased !.
i opened a ticket #273939 and asked for an investigation.. no reply at all despite emailing them several times.
now i lost the chance to play Fallout 4 on release date and worst GMG support doesn't exist.
my lesson from this encounter is to avoid Gray market Key-resellers such as GMG, their reputation unfortunately is fake, and their customer service is abysmal and doesn't exist to begin with.
i guess i should keep on buying my games directly Steam and Origin, despite the high prices on Origin due to the exchange rate on my region (British pound)"
"They provided me with great customer satisfaction when it came to purchasing Fallout 4. thank you so much!"
"Every time i bought from GMG i become a happy gamer, why? Cause they got offers on the best games almost all the time, besides they're always giving vouchers for discounts "
"Fast easy transaction. Best key seller. 5 stars."
"High prices and no discounts for Indians.
I used to love GMG before they implemented Indian Rupee on my account. After the implementation all prices rised up ie, they converted all the games at an exchange rate higher than the market rate. Also we lost access to GMG's vip deals and vouchers. Both of them are not working any more. In India we normally have regional prices like Russia ie, I can get a new AAA game for ?999-?1799 (some exceptions) But GMG prices are so horrible. Why would anyone want to buy games at higher price. I think GMG implemented Indian Rupee becoz they need to get the keys for cheap from developers saying that they need to sell to Indians and sell these keys at a higher price on Internatonal Markets such as US,UK and Europe with no benefits to poor Indians. I tried to contact the GMG support to ask about the jacked up prices, voucher and vip deals problem. But still they don't do anything. If you're a Indian please don't buy from GMG."
"Just fantastic.
If only there were more discounts and games"
"A great service and online key seller. It will require you to download your games online, but the service is so quick and smooth that, I would recommend this to anyone. I am currently a VIP member and the sales on there and has brilliant service."
