"Several months ago, I ordered several oven liners, which I have purchased from time to time. Somehow, during the online order process, there must have been some way some kind of "Advantage" ha ha ha was included. Imagine paying $14.99 a month to get a buying discount from a company I only buy from once every few years!!! Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to review my bank statement for a couple months, and today noticed a recurring monthly charge of $14.99 from Harriet Carter, without having bought anything!! I called, and was told they would cancel my "membership", that the charge kept recurring because I didn't cancel it. Possibly included in this scam was the fact that they must have sold my online address, because I suddenly was inundated with MANY online ads, which I had to "unsubscribe" item by item, by item, by item. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN, AND WILL WARN EVERYONE I KNOW TO DO THE SAME. "
"I ordered a "soft" bathroom rug. They should be soft on bare feet, right? The rug felt soft to the touch but was very painful on bare feet. After paying the shipping to receive and then return (they don't pay it) it cost me $27 for nothing. Plus my time and aggravation. They apparently are ignoring the elephant in the living room - Amazon. I will never do business with them again."
"Item wa received weeks after promised and was nothing like the picture . Have also begged many times to be removed from their mailing list , they totally refuse to comply with my request. This has been going on for months, I didn't even order from a catalogue, I ordered on line.....what a big mistake that was"
"Terrible company! Ordered something and they sent a substitute, then when we called they stated that's what we had ordered to begin with. IT WAS NOT! they argued continuously with us. Finally we got another person who said they sent us the substitute cause the one we ordered was on back ordered. they sent us a shipping label to return the wrong product, which we returned to them. Three weeks later, they were stating they never received it. Meanwhile, they charged my husbands debit account $14.95. When questioned they said that we had signed up for some "customer benefits program" which we HAD NOT! They said they'd "try" to remove the charge. Now have to call the bank and have them look into it. We still haven't gotten the original product we ordered and have told them to cancel it and remove the charge from our account. UNBELIEVABLE! Terrible experience. never again use Harriet Carter"
"They shipped the merchandise that I ordered. The description was lacking some important information on one item, so I can't use it. Don't know if it's worth sending back since they don't refund shipping charges. However, that's not the reason for the one star rating.
Since ordering from them, I'm receiving catalogs from other mail order companies. I immediately called all of them to stop sending me catalogs because they just clutter up my mailbox and immediately get tossed. I found out that Harriet Carter SOLD my information to other mail order catalog companies. SHAME ON THEM. I requested that they no longer sell my information, but I'm still getting catalogs.
So don't order from them unless you'd like to receive all kinds of catalogs.

"Placed an order for my mother in law (I wouldn't normally purchase from this company/most of their products are cheap junk) anyway, the day after purchasing online received email for free shipping. Requested that they honor the request and credit us the difference. Lame excuse for not doing that is because the order shipped. Paleeze! While the company does not have an obligation to ensure their customers' computer safety, selling something that encourages such risky behavior is unethical. "

"Go elsewhere! They used to be pretty good and I used to buy stuff from them regularly. They are dishonest, do not disclose fees until AFTER you have placed your order and they send an email with a fee attached. I had to have bank start a fraud claim! They deducted the order I immediately cancelled after seeing the extra charge on it twice from my bank account! They only initially refunded the 1st charge. It was not until I informed them my bank was conducting a fraud investigation that they refunded the rest of my money. They never had authorization to deduct anything in the first place because the order was cancelled. THEY ARE DISHONEST, RUDE! I WILL NEVER BUY FROM HARRIET CARTER AGAIN! RUN PEOPLE!!"

"I purchased a clock from Harriet Carter as a Christmas gift, I paid $8.00 postage for them to send it to me, I gave it as a gift and it was broken. I sent it back paying another $8.00. This is not right and Harriet Carter is screwing the public with this Outrageous postage, and tax. Each time I call to find out the outcome of this order, I end up in India.

"Harriet Carter Gift Catalog company charges sales tax on not only the merchandise but on the shipping and handling charges, also. No other online retailer that I have ever dealt with has charged sales tax on shipping and handling charges. Maybe the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office would be interested in investigating this illegal practice. In the state of Pennsylvania sales tax should only be charged on the products purchased--not shipping and handling charges. Harriet Carter--stop ripping off your customers!!! "
"Seriously, the package took forever to arrive. About 13 days to be exact. I suppose this falls within the time span of delivery, but 13 days is kind of pushing it, at least in comparison to shipping times for other merchants. [Edit: I just read from another reviewer here that the company is located in PA. Given that I live in the next state, New York, 13 days for delivery time is actually very unacceptable.] I was never able to track the order; my order status had only said "Open" for the entire 13 days. Wondering what that meant, I sent an e-mail to customer service and they said that when an order is "open" it means the shipment has not yet been processed. I took this to mean I'd have to wait even more for my order to get processed and actually shipped, and was pretty ticked at that. But then the next day my order came in the mail. Pretty irritating experience overall. I don't think I'll buy from this merchant again."
"I could not find the invoice number but I assure you I made my first and last purchase from Harriet Carter this October. I ordered a flag case to preserve the flag from my fathers casket.
It was not assembled and no place in the catalog description did it note that it came unassembled. It was also of very poor quality. I guess I should have expected that based on the type of trumpery that they purvey.
Customer service was helpful in returning the item and I am still in dispute over the postage."
"I ordered from the magazine a few times in the past and never had any real problems. My last order was made online thinking I could cut the shipping times down a bit but it still took about 2 weeks to arrive.
The only thing about books like harriet carter is they sell alot of nic-nacks thats hard to judge by a picture. It looks great but when it arrives many times its not as expected.
Overall no problems with any of my orders, I just wish shipping times could improve some as well as send delivery notifications via email. "
