"2/1/2010 - Site navigation was typical. Product details/specifications (cell phone shopping) were extraordinary. Ordering process was simple and straight forward. I elected PayPal. All went smoothly as typically does with PayPal.

I soon received an email from HookedOnTronics thanking me for my order and stating the sales department would review my order and I would receive an email with exact instructions on how to pay via PayPal, and not to pay before getting that email.

Huh? I just finished paying! It would have been more logical (and normal) to have the site state that message BEFORE continuing to the PayPal site to pay. Duhhh. Perhaps it will be of no importance. So now we'll see....

By the end of business this same day my order had been shipped. Complete tracking details sent via email. All good. Very impressed.

2/4/2010 - After operating the phone for a few days it was discovered the cell phone will not sync properly with any software available and the camera took horrible pictures. The phone's operating system was sluggish, the buttons were hard to press, etc. Basically I was not happy with the phone.

Their warranty policy states all products sold by HookedOnTronics are covered by their Return Policy. They accept merchandise for return within 30 days of the original invoice date, for refund or exchange. You must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization number and meet several other terms:

For returns, they wanted items in factory condition (ie resalable) with all its packing materials, accessories, reg cards, etc. Double boxed and don't write on the original packaging. They will refuse any items returned without an RMA, I would have to buy the return shipping and insurance to them via a reputable carrier, and they won't be responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged packages.
Also, they won't pay for reshipping a repaired item back to you, they want to keep 15% as a restocking fee, 7% for refused packages. (I guess that'd be if you didn't meet their factory condition or double boxing policy?)
I thought that was kinda lame but it didn't apply to me... No problems here I thought. I opened this thing carefully. All can be put back well within those guidelines, I was ready to take the 15% restocking hit.

I emailed for an RMA as instructed.

2/5/2010 - I received a confirmation email stating they had received my request for RMA# but had to contact their vendor so I can return my item directly to them and that once they received their authorization they would send me all the instructions on how to return my item.

2/8/2010 - Today I get another email stating that cell phone sales are final. That they only warrant my new phone to be free from defects. Only if I find a malfunction within 4 days of receipt and notify them within that time will they, after receiving the unit, verify the problem and exchange for the same item. No Substitutions. They added that due to the fact that my phone was not defective and has already been in use, they would NOT accept the return!

I searched the site finally discovering a warranty tab among the details for the item stating exactly this.

So, I'm hosed for not reading in several places for various warranty details. I find the contradictory warranty statements totally misleading and downright sneaky. Boldly providing a 'glowing customer care face' on one page and a 'no return policy' deep in a item tab elsewhere.
Thanks HookedOnTronics. Thanks for two-faced business practices.

I have since filed this grievance with the Florida (Miami) BBB with, of coarse, zero results.
