"I placed a very small priority mail order on Saturday 8/25/12 that I really needed before the Labor Day holiday.
USPS delivered on the 30th but no one was around to sign. (I didn't know a signature was needed) They redelivered on the 31st but didn't call the apt manager's phone number listed on the delivery slip. Package was confirmed for redelivery again for today: Sat. Sept 1. I sat in my apt all day waiting but package is lost and wasn't delivered. they can't find it and have no answers for me despite the online confirmation. My payment was already taken, nothing was delivered, my time spec was missed rendering my order useless to me. Total chaos and major customer dissatisfaction from using USPS-a company in rapid decline and unable to deliver or track a package.
My plants will end up suffering the most;I may lose them entirely due to this delay.

"shipping is more with them than any other companys i use it is alot more.But they have everything there is for your garden or hydroponics if they could get there shipping cheaper i would spend more with them.As of now i buy just what i cant get with the other companys."

"Customer Service is the worst...Had 4 broking T5 bulbs,They wanted a photo of the broking bulbs..sent them a photo...They said i better lose the attitude or figure out another way to get your bulbs replaced...Best regards Zack..I don't have to be nice to get my broking bulbs replaced! Don't buy from this company! I missed the first shipping notice because they did not send me a tracking number came home to see I missed the UPS man I called horticultural source then about two hours later they emailed me the tracking number!Been two weeks and no RMA... Filed a clam with Visa.."

"I have had two transactions with this company. I have purchased Atami Bloombastic 1250mL twice. On both occasions the bottles arrived with the seals broken and have product leakage on the bottle itself and on the box. All efforts to address this issue have been responded to with nonsense. Horticulture Source claims the items come to them unsealed which Atami disputes. Atami claims all of their case goods come sealed to guarantee quality. On the first occasion I let it slide, but on the second occasion I realized this is more than a coincidence. Someone there is tampering with this product for whatever reason and making a mess of it. All my efforts at resolution have been shucked off by Horticulture Source. If Horticulture source was a reputable company, they would have offered me a replacement free of charge considering I have received unsealed items twice from them. Their resolution creates more of a hassle to me and I find their attitude far too casual in an uncaring way. Making me return an opened product and not resolving this immediately is just bad business considering the expense of this product. I would suggest that anyone looking can find a better source for what they need than the Horticulture Source. There are many vendors willing to accommodate customers when problems arise. I cannot and would not recommend Horticulture Source.
Pleasant emails are nonsense, not resolutions.

"The product was shipped very fast but it was sent to the wrong destination. It was shipped not just to the wrong destination but it was shipped to the wrong state. There customer service is horrible. The people you speak with are very friendly but they always respond via email instead of actually talking to you and when you get the response it seems to be just a generic answer so you have to call back, when you do its the same thing all over again. When they finally reshipped my order (a week later) they didn't ship it via the carrier I paid for. I originally paid for UPS and they shipped it UPS to the wrong place then they waited a week to reship and shipped it via USPS. As of the time I am writing this review I still have not received my product. VERY DISSATISFIED. To top it all off I asked for my money back and they haven't responded. NO PRODUCT AND NO MONEY."

Honestly, whenever I read a negative rating of a vendor I think it's coming from someone with unrealistic expectations or an axe to grind. I guess it's my turn to hold the axe. I was looking forward to rating Horticulture Source well, given their very prompt shipping and excellent packaging, but here's the caveat. If there is any chance whatsoever they make a mistake, you are the one who's going to pay for it. In my case, my package was missing one of the light fixtures I ordered. After a week (and two emails) I finally got a Paypal refund back for the light. Now I have to turn around and buy it again and pay shipping again (after already forking over $100+ shipping for the initial order) for a single fixture. IMO their mistake, their problem. But apparently not. Thanks a lot guys. -_-

Update (5/10/2012):

Following the instructions below, I immediately reordered the lamp with the requisite note in the comments section. They did eventually refund me the shipping after I reminded them about it again. (Thanks!)

So, this is what I learned about Horticulture Source, based on my a little too complicated experience.

1. They ship SUPER fast.
2. Their prices are competitive.
3. If you order a lot of stuff, the packaging is EXTREMELY good. If you order just a couple items, the packaging is pretty flimsy, considering the contents are light fixtures (lightweight box & no bubble wrap). As a result, the bulb of my replacement fixture arrived shattered.
4. Customer service reps respond to emails VERY quickly. However, their communications are terse and don't provide much information/direction.
5. You WILL get reimbursed if they screw things up (yay!), BUT they will not automatically inform you of your options - you have to dig into it. You also have to remind them about promised reimbursements. So, be proactive!
6. If you ask for the shipping of two unprocessed orders to be combined, they will indeed send the items together (yay!), but they will NOT reimburse you for having been charged shipping twice (even if you ask them to).

So, in a nutshell. They are built for speed and price, not service. Which is fair, but kind of frustrating sometimes.

Update (6/5/2012):

After a few emails, I was shipped a replacement bulb for the broken bulb in my replacement fixture. I was happy they offered to replace it in this way, versus having me return the whole fixture and have a new one shipped out. The bulbs were out of stock, so there was a delay, which was communicated to me after I sent a follow-up email. The replacement bulb again arrived broken, so I sent documentation to the email address that had notified me of shipment. I received the second replacement bulb on 06/01/2012 (original order date 04/23/2012) packed in the most heavy duty tube ever, well wrapped, with "PLEASE do not bend" written all over it. I am convinced a sincere effort was made to get this bulb to me intact, at any cost lol. They were probably as sick of this order as I was by this point.

Communications with customer service during the latter part of this extraordinary order were pleasant and to the point. I never had to twist their arm, just send out periodic follow up emails. I understand that a certain amount of coincidental misfortune was involved in this business. I'm just glad it's all over and my fixture is in place. Thanks!
