"It is so sad that JCPenney which has been in business for over 100 years has let it's new CEO run it into the ground. This CEO fired 80-85% of its in-store management nation wide. They run the stores on skeleton crews and expect the few employees to make up the difference. The result is poor customer service, stressed employees and long lines.
JCPenney stores are pulling out cash registers and have announced that by 2014 there will be no registers and customers will be using self serve check outs.
The new pricing tickets look like the ones at Dollar Store or Walmart and there are no more coupons which is what most customers want. The prices have been reduced, but the customer does not see the savings. It also seems like they are catering to the young in the styles of clothing and pushing the older customers out.
At a JCPenney store in Peoria, Illinois they have three television sets outside of the fitting rooms. They have the TV's set on a station called "Current TV" which is a station owned by Al Gore. On this station they have shows with one sided, militant, liberal political views. When I complained to a manager to change the station, she tried, but a message on the screen said "unauthorized change" and she was unable to change it. This is probably set by the corporate office. Whatever your political views, a department store where people are trying to relax and shop, is not the place to force people to watch a one sided political view. They should have a sports station, cooking show or have a remote for people to choose the station they want. I have complained many times and told the management that I will not continue to shop there if they don't change the station, but they refuse to do so. I guess the days of making the customer feel welcome are over, at least at JCPenney. I will find other stores that actually care about return customers and I will spend my money there.
The share holders of JCPenney should cut their losses and get rid of this CEO, then they might get many of their loyal customers back."
"All of the low price products from "best deal" department are out of stock as soon as they appear on the website. The worst thing is that there is no way for you to know the product is out of stock until you click on it and look at every single size and color, wasting a lot of my time.
And when you put something in shopping cart, there will be no alert in the case the product is out of stock. I noticed about that only after I read the confirmation email.
I try to buy 50$ to get free shipping, but then I have to pay shipping fee because some products was out of stock but I was not noticed."
"WORST EXHANGE RETURN EXPERIENCCE EVER (twice, so not a fluke).
Ordering on JCP.com has been an easy and good experience so far, but if you have to return or exchange something be prepared to WAIT FOREVER to get it straightened out. Also, keep good records and get proof of mailing and delivery for your returns/exchanges because JCP seems to never receive what you send back (despite that you have proof of delivery to their exchange center). It takes FOREVER to straighten it out and get your refund or exchange. But keep calling them and they eventually refund you money -- it's a HUGE hassle and takes a long time. But at least the customer service reps are friendly while telling you they have no idea what you are talking about."
"Absolutely deplorable quality in products and service. Purchased a full set of furniture in July of 2011. Advertised by JCPenney as leather and also had a 5-year warranty available, which we purchased that was supposed to cover ANYTHING from frame to leather for five years. Well, that was a lie. Here it is 11 months later and I just got a claim denial from the warranty company. About three weeks ago the arm and cushion of the sofa started to crack and split so I filed a warranty claim. Two weeks later, the technician came out and told me that the leather is bonded, not real, and this would happen to all the pieces over time. The warranty company denied the claim because "the damage was not reported quickly enough" which is crap!! Absolutely disappointed with the quality of the furniture and the sub-par warranty company as well. DO NOT BUY FURNITURE FROM PENNEY'S OR EXPECT THEIR WARRANTY'S TO BE OF ANY VALUE TO YOU!!!!! "
"You need more employees who actually ask you to if you need help and more places to ring up items.. jcp youre not very customer friendly any more... its like shopping at walmart."
"I placed an order on 4/24 and did not hear from them at all about my order. I called on 4/30 (today) to ask them for an update on the order and apparently one of my items was back-ordered. They made absolutely no effort in communicating with me to let me know that my item was back-ordered. It will be shipped out today (not sure if that is true) and now it will take another 4-7 business days to get here and I needed to use the items I ordered. If they had updated their website to show the item was back ordered or if they would have at least communicated with me to let me know the status I would have given them more than 1 star for their shipping process and speed. Another thing they could have done was offer faster expedited shipping to make up for the fact that they couldn't deliver in a timely manner. This is truly a horrible experience and even though some of their items are priced well, I urge you to stay away if you need your items in a week. I gave them a 2 for customer service only because they have 24 hours customer support. I still didn't receive my items so i'm not sure if it will arrive damaged or not."
"I have been a long time customer of JCP and after my recent experience NEVER AGAIN! I received my item damaged and they will not replace it or accept it as a return. The customer service reps were rude and completely unwilling to listen to the circumstances. I do not see how it is my problem that it came damaged, yet I am the one being punished. Mediocre products with unacceptable service. "
"buyer be ware at the jcp jewelry dept!!!!
recently i purchased an invicta watch with 2 yr service plan.
4 mo. after the purchase, the watch developed some tarnishing of the band.sent it in for repair and was told that the item could not be repaired, and a buyout of the item was offered for the purchase price (plus tax)but not for the prce of the service agreement ($34.95).when i asked why there was no refund for the service plan,i was told at the jewelry counter this was "store policy"... i then contacted costomer service(corprate),again the same result.so i now own a service plan($34.95) on an item that i no longer own!!! this seems rediculous to me.and i will n o longer do business with jcp.sad but true ..."
"Applies to JCP on Fairmont in Pasadena, TX
When did customer service not become customer service? I have never been treated so rudely from someone taking my money. When did the customer become such a burden to the employee? What the employees of JCP fail to understand that if it wasn't for the "customers", they wouldn't be employed. It just sickens me at how I can be treated like that. I am not a casual shopper at JCP, I have spent some serious cash there. I refuse to revisit this specific store."
"THIS RELATES TO JCPENNEY.COM ONLY - not to the physical store itself.
I placed an order online with JCP.com for a gift for my wife. I added to cart, checkedout, paid , and waited for my confirmation email. When i receievd it, it said the item was back-ordered??? Why wait until after someone has paid to tell you it's on back-order? I then called online customer service for JCP.com. They told me the item was back-ordered for 5 months !!! 5 months - are they kidding - why advertise something for sale and accept an order for it if it won't be in stock for 5 months.
Now at this point, I asked if they had any stock locally. To be fair, the lady at customer service did call my local mall store to see if they had any in stock (which they didn't). Sicne I really wanted this item for my wife, I said Ok let's leave it as it is and I'd wait for 5 months(!).
I then went online to JCP.com myself and on a hunch I searched for stores wthin 15 miles (of which there were about 6 or 7) and I then called each one. I think the 6th one actually had the item is stock so I reserved it over the telephone after speaking with the manager and explaining what happened.
Since stores and JCP.com are NOT linked in any way, I was told I would have to come to the store, pay for the item, and then cancel my online order (via the catalogue department in the store). The next day, I drove to the store to piok up the item (no free shipping from stores unlike JCP.com for this item) and paid for the item. The staff at the store were extremely helpful and made the whole process easy. Thank you ladies.
I then went to cancel the oniline order as told only to find that JCP,com had cancelled the order the previous day despite me telling them to leave the order as it was !
All in all - not a satisfactory experience online at JCP.com and suffice to say I won't order at JCP.com. They need to change their system to state that items are on Backorder BEFORE you place an order."
"I would not open a Credit Card with J.C. Penney! They bait you into opening one up by offering a discount on items purchased with the credit card. Don't fall for their scam. I went online to purchase clothing, and only 5 DAYS LATER did they email me to tell me that my credit card didn't have the appropriate balance to cover the purchase!! I was shocked that the Credit Card even went through the system at point of sale, or that I didn't receive an email the same day stating that there were issues with the payment (much like Amazon does). Instead, I get an email asking me to call them to find out why the order didn't process! I was furious. I paid the outstanding balance, and the next month I forgot to pay the minimum and they sent me to their collections department who ruthlessly kept harassing me for $45! I got phone calls incessantly, and they were incredibly rude. They even called me during the holidays for the $45! They tagged on a $30 late fee and would not waive it. Horrible experience."
"Worst customer service ever. Purchased an item the 27th of November and it got backordered a couple of times. Cancelled the order the 12th of december, and it still got shipped, and JCPenney won't do anything about it.
Customer service is unhelpful and mean. Never buying from JCPENNEY again and certainly recommend you not to either. "
"I bought this quilt online with other accessories to go with it.
About 1 1/2 weeks later I finally get what is "suppose" to be the quilt in the mail, open it up & ends up being a bed skirt (mind you they already charged my debit card), & they have my phone number but didn't bother to call & let me know they are out of stock. This is a "bigger" Christmas present for my mom & very disappointed they messed up on their end. I will not be shopping with them anymore. Not only could they care less but didn't compensate me in anyway. And to add to the headache I have to take the time to return the other items when they get here in the mail. Bad job JC Penny's, I talked with the supervisor "CIndy" in Pittsburg & hardly any apologizes given- so furious with them!"
"Wow. JC Penney needs to get their act together. I order a jewelry armoire from them and make sure it is in stock and ready to ship. This is a special gift that i needed within 2 weeks so i thought it would be no problem.
I then get a shipping confirmation the next day but there is no tracking number. I call and thet say it indeed shipped by UPS and that the tracking number usually shows up a day late. 3 days later there is no tracking number and they say the same thing.
A week later i then decide that it is ready to arrive any day so i try my best to make sure someone is home to receive the package. I call to inquire and they say it is scheduled to arrive on a Tuesday which is now 1.5 weeks after the ship day. So fine i wait until Tuesday and no package. I then call again and demand a tracking number (it is UPS so there must be one). After being placed on hold for 15 minutes, someone tells me the package never shipped! So they refunded me the money amd now i have to look for another gift. I hope the refund shows up soon. But i willnever order from these clowns again!"
"I LOVE JCPenney. In fact I loved shopping there so much I decided to get a job there, and I love working there too. I am shocked at all of these people saying they received poor customer service..all of our training is centered on how to make everything easier for the customer and how to treat them with respect while giving them a good shopping experience. If someone has a problem with customer service they should report it to the manager, JCP takes their customer service ratings very seriously and definately would not put up with that at all. Also, if the sale price of an item is incorrect, we ARE supposed to give the listed price to the inquiring customer under most circumstances and THEN change the signs to be correct. Please if you receive bad service, don't take it out on the whole company, just maybe visit a different store. If you are dissatisfied, the customer survey on the back of your receipt is the perfect place to say so. I'm not just saying all this because I work there, I've never had a bad experience at Penney's before. I'm frankly quite shocked at these complaints, and hopefully whatever store was visited will raise their standards a bit."
