"JCPenny in home decorating was a waste of time. Live and let learn. At least it was free and my friend got me out of there before I made a wrong decision. I ended up hirin and interior decorator to pick what went best with our layout and it turned out fabulous. "

"A zero.

If you deal with JCPenney long enough, you clearly will see the incompetence shine through. The catalog ordering system has become an ultimate, flat zero. From incorrectly filled orders, to cheaply-made imports, to exceptionally poor customer service. The associates there no longer care. It is no wonder that the catalog/online ordering is in such financial shambles.

We often will place an order and receive an order confirmation that the merchandise is in stock. Then, we later will check the status of our order by logging onto the JCP system only to find that much of our merchandise has been removed from the orders -- without notification. Even worse, we have logged on to find that our merchandise total has been increased without notification. Even further, some of our orders have vanished into thin air never to be heard about again.

And when you receive email communication from the company, well, they associates won't even sign their names! Messages from JCP just say "Cordially, JCP Customer Care." What? Customer care? Right.

So what is up with all of the JCP online confusion and lack of respect for the customer? It is clear that the customer is not valued. And the merchandise quality has fallen drastically over the past few years. Cheap imports fill most orders, particularly the home decor, home furnishing, and furniture.

And just try to contact JCP customer service. A "headache" doesn't even being to describe the feeling of trying to find out why. Why your orders disappeared, why your order history has changed, why your order total was increased, why merchandise suddenly is out of stock after waiting for weeks, why they send emails that make absolutely are contradictory and make no sense, why they can't fix the gliches in their checkout system, why they simply cannot contact you when they decide to make drastic changes to your orders ... Just getting them to admit that they have erred is an impossible feat, so we ultimately will just stop trying.

I have shopped at JCP for about 25 years, but the end is quite near. The value received per dollar is null, and the headache of ordering is tremendous. I am not surprised that JCPenney does not particupate in resellerratings. They don't C-A-R-E about customers!

"I will never shop at JCPenney.com again! I ordered a 7-pc dining set online and I received a table that was cracked. Although there are tables available at a store 5 minutes from my house, I have been told that the only way to replace it is to return the broken table to the catalog department downstairs and re-purchase the table in the furniture department of the same store at a higher price and with a mandatory $60 delivery fee. I have decided to cut my losses and return the whole dining set to the catalog office. I will not be re-buying the same set at a higher price and I will never visit a JCPenney store or shop at jcp.com ever again. "

"Horrible experience. I was at the JCPenney's at the Southland Mall in Hayward, trying to buy some pillows. There was an issue with my purchase so I brought the issue up to the sales rep. We went to investigate. The sales rep made a mistake with the signs, but when I mention about the pricing the sales rep took the sign and changed it (in front of me) to a different sale where I had to pay more, and said they made an error. They then told me that I would have to go to the home department to resolve it.

I then went to the home department and they too admitted their procedure was unprofessional, but would not budge with their mistake on the sales price. The even admitted to the error but would not provide me the discount. Horrible customer service.

"We love to order stuff from JC Penney. Unlike other department stores, their size are pretty much the same throughout the different brands they carry. Very seldom do we have to send back products. The kids loved the coats we ordered for them. "

"I am mostly satisfied with JCPenney.com's products, although a few have been bad (a wool coat that was huge and choppy-looking, petite sizes with very long sleeves, shapewear with legs that were way too big, socks that were very tight). But usually I find good deals there. And even though my experience with their petite clothing hasn't been flawless, I do like that they offer a decent selection of petite sized-clothing that doesn't look like it's for senior citizens. For some reason, stores seem to think only seniors come in petite sizes, or that thousands of petite shoppers can just make do with regular sizes. I couldn't even find a petite coat online at some stores (Kohl's and another dept. store, can't recall if it was Nordstrom's or another place) earlier this season!

When I have returned items to the store, their customer service has been outstanding--the reps are very friendly and have never given me a hard time (I hate to return things because I always picture people giving me a hard time, but because they've been so good, I don't hesitate to order in two different sizes and return the one that doesn't fit). Items also arrive fairly quickly (unlike Kohl's).

What JCPenney's really needs to do is revamp its awful Web site. It takes forever for a page to load, there are a lot of user-unfriendly quirks (if you search by price you can't narrow your selection without losing that setting, or if you want to see more items on a page then click on an item, it messes up), plus you can't even save the items in your "shopping bag" without a bag number, even if you're signed in. What's the sense in that? In other words, they make you work to use their site, which is not a smart business move. My experiences have been positive enough that I've been willing to fight the site to order, but I don't know that others are willing to do so.

Overall I'd give this store 3.5 stars if that was possible.

"I Honestly don't like most of the clothes and brand's that JCPenney caries but i have to say that thheir stores are very nice and have good and bad associates, i have had 2 bad experiences there but that does not mean i'm going to stop going there. My bad experience was with the associate i had to deal with not the company a a whole for people who have one bad experience and then say well im not shopping there again are usually going to deal with the same bad experiences in other places."

"Be very careful doing business with JCP.com I ordered a product verified the price, got an email invoice confirming the price, two days later I get an email informing the the order has shipped and I now have a new higher price. I call Customer Service and they say their system applied a discount that was not applicable so the new price is the correct price. I ask them, to refund me the money they took without my authorization or cancel this order. They said they would not cancel the order nor would they give me back the money they stole, but I could return the order when I recieved it but I would not receive back my $27 shipping and handling fee. I have the issue escallated and forward them the original email invoice I recieved, they in turn forwarded me what they claim to be a copy of the original invoice and now the Total price is TBD, so, now I have essentially 3 invoices from them all with different price totals for the same product.???? We keep going back and fourth and after 5 or 6 emails of them not budging I contact AMEX and explain it to them, they immediately refund my money and open up a dispute case. I tell JCP I am done arguing with them, I have my money and AMEX will be representing me moving forward. The next morning I get an email from JCP saying they are refunding me the money they stole and how they can now see the original order in the system with the original agreed on price and it will be honored and how I am now a valued customer. This was an overall very negative expierence, Customer Service was terrible, their internet order entry system is terrible, the product took a week to arrive which is below avg. Beware!!!"

"I ordered two blankets on Oct. 14. Site showed it was backordered to Oct. 21. I figured that was all right. Checked online on Oct. 21 and they had changed it (without telling me) to Oct. 30. Emailed them on Oct. 30. They answered that it was backordered until Oct. 30. I pointed out that it was already Oct. 30. They said they would research it. Never heard anything more. Today, telephoned and tried to cancel the order. I was told I can't cancel it, computer wouldn't let them. What now???

"This was my second order from this merchant--the first was order # 2009-2241-5000-1843 on August 12. Both orders were for a pair of black sneakers. When I received the first order, it was the right style and size, but blue. I complained, and was offered a return label. Returning things is a big hassle, so I accepted the blue sneakers and ordered another pair of black ones.

Guess what? The second pair was also blue. Two orders, both wrong. There won't be a third.

"I recently placed an order from jcp.com (Aug 8). The order consisted of two pkg of curtains and three curtain rods. All items were "in-stock" per the website. I chose delivery to the store because I assumed since my local store had them in stock, it would only take a couple of days MAX to process the order. It is now August 19, eleven days later, and I have yet to hear anything. I have called the store a couple of times and have been treated with little concern or care. In fact, the catalog dept. representatives have been very short and rude. One of them could not even find my order. The website states orders take approximately 3-4 days to ship if they are in stock, and that is if you have it sent to your home. On top of all this, they CHARGE for store delivery and they charge tax (I understand the tax). I would recommend shopping at another online retailer that provides free shipping and does not charge tax. JCP is NOT worth the time or effort. Most of what they sell is junk anyway. I know I will not be back!"
