My 2nd purchase is the compact CL-100 Dual Alarm Weather Alert Clock/Radio. I use this extensively in Canada/USA for boating/travel. Great forecasting weather conditions on the water or wherever you are. I take it to my hotel for advanced weather information. Its dual alarms are a nice feature; one to get up and the other to remind when it's time to head ashore. "

"I work 10 minutes away from J&R but ordered online to take advantage of the 5% cashback program. A trip to the store let me find out that the cashback program is good for online orders only because store reps in the physical store are commission-based. I assume senior management is only willing to "discount" a set percentage off revenue, and it is the customer's choice of whether the "discount" gets paid to store sales reps or back to the customer. This gives an idea of what kind of people run J&R.
I called customer service to ask if I can have my order available for store pickup. I will receive my order quicker and J&R can save on next-day shipping which they do for free. It's a win-win situation. Customer service told me no. J&R's internal system does not allow modifying any part of an order without voiding it and replacing it with a new order under a different order number. If I went with that option, I would lose my 5% cashback rewards because my "online order" would get replaced by a "phone order", which also is ineligible for customer cashback because phone orders are taken by sales reps manning phone calls. To avoid the nuisance, I decided to wait for my order in the mail.
In the time it took for J&R to process my order, some items in my order sold out and got backordered! After waiting 2 weeks for J&R to receive a new shipment, UPS lost my package. After many calls I made, it took another week for J&R to finally take action to submit a claim with UPS. UPS approved the claim, but J&R still refused to take any action. I had to wait another week and call back many times to learn that J&R won't do anything until the insurance money from UPS clears with J&R.
I was getting quite irritated. J&R finally agreed to reship the missing items, but by then they got sold out again! I had to wait another 2 weeks... I should also mention that items in my order were missing. Among my order was a DSLR that was supposed to be bundled with free accessories. I only got some of them and had to call customer service to track down the rest.
At the end, it took over a month and a half for me to receive a package that I could have gotten same day if J&R allowed in-store pickups. The time I spent on the phone with Customer service regarding the same order amounted to hours. The staff was extremely friendly, but often gave me conflicting information. They were rather reactive to the problems I experienced with my order. I would have preferred if they were more proactive and reached out to me. The sales reps, on the other hand, proactively followed up with me almost immediately even though it's not difficult to understand why."
