Worst Customer Service Experience of My Life

"I ordered a chair and got an email saying it would be delivered in 10-14 business days "if in stock." I wrote to them for more info about what this meant, trying to figure out if there was a chance that on business day 14, after 3 weeks of waiting, they may tell me the chair wasn't in stock.

They replied with a general email that deliveries take 10-14 business days. I said I understand that, I'm just trying to figure out if 1. I will definitely get the chair I ordered within 14 business days or 2. there's a chance the chair will not be in inventory. Their response? They canceled my order without answering my question or talking with me. When I asked why, they said they didn't have the time to email back and forth with me (I had sent two emails before they canceled my order) and if I was "ok with the delivery time, I could resubmit my order"...but they still didn't answer the question, and this was already 6 business days into my 10-14 business days).

If they had answered my question the first time, I wouldn't have had to send a second email. I can't believe a company with customer service this awful could stay in business.

Premium brands @ great prices and excellent customer service

"Madison Seating offers extremely good prices on premium brand name chairs. Their “open box” stairs have been previously handled in some fashion, which allows them to be offered at such competitive rates. Their customer service team does a great job answering questions and resolving inquiries, hence our 5-star review. We will definitely buy from Madison Seating again."

Slow slow slow - and product feels used...

"I ordered a few Herman Miller chairs and it took 2 months for them to arrive. This was nearly double the timeline they quoted. I was told multiple times that the chairs would ship within 48 hours.

The chairs arrived and were missing all of the manuals, tags, tools and installation instructions. I just feel like I am buy a product that was returned, but already used.

It is probably better to use a more reputable source.

When they say 10-14 days for delivery...

"When they say 10-14 days for delivery they mean the item will be shipped in 14 business days. The chair I ordered is being delivered less than 5 miles away. When I called to see if shipping could be expedited or if I could pick the chair up myself customer service was not helpful at all, and offered no solution. I cant remember the last time I waited this long for delivery from anywhere! let alone from NJ... Will never order from here again."

Low quality products and they delete poor reviews

"I purchased 5 Steelcase Criterion office chairs from their website. The leather has separated along the seatback clamshell on all of them within a year or so. By comparison, the chairs I purchased directly from SteelCase look near new. After the looking these Criterion chairs over closely for product number stickers, it appears likely they were cheap replicates. I entered a review with this information on their website and it has never been posted. Their products are cheap and their reviews biased."

Great Customer Service Before & After Purchase

"Throughout my decision making process of selecting a new office chair and making sure i was able to get the best price Madison Seating was available via phone & email to help me out which was very appreciated. After purchasing & receiving the chair i was pleased with how new the refurbished item looked. After receiving and assembling I had a minor issue with the lift mechanism that Madison was able to help me resolve via quick email responses. Thanks!"

Great Customer Service

"I ordered the Zody Chair by Haworth from here for a very good price. However, there was an issue with the backwards recline. I simply showed them the issue by sending in a video, they were very responsive throughout the whole process. They issued an offer for a new chair free of charge or a refund. Great service and will order from them again in the futur"

"I've purchase 7 chairs for our office over the last few years with Madison Seating. I've only had 1 issue with a chair which was on my last order. A replacement part was quickly sent out but unfortunately didn't work. I reached out to Customer Service and the issue was quickly resolved by Annie who offered to replace the chair with a new one. I won't hesitate to buy another. "

Herman Miller Aeron v2, arrived today and I love it!

"First off, I have wanted a Herman Miller chair for several years. I first sat in the Aeron in 2010 when the company I worked for purchased them for the office. I looked at Madison Seating since I couldn't justify the cost (over $1100) to get one of the new Aeron v2 chairs.

I found that Madison Seating were selling chairs on Amazon, but I didn't see the newer Aeron listed so I decided to order directly from Madison Seating. I was very apprehensive since I read a lot of mixed reviews on Madison Seating, and doing a search online revealed a lot of negativity including a lawsuit against them. I have seen that Herman Miller and Madison have now settled this.

I ordered just after the holidays on January 3rd, and did have to contact them to get updates on my order. I think their website says it usually ships 10-14 days, so on the 14th day I contacted them again. Each time they responded to me the same day, usually within an hour or so, and apologized for the delay. In all honestly, I am not expecting Amazon delivery times, especially on a large item like this. I see a lot of other negative reviews due to slow delivery times, but I wouldn't say they deserve 1 star because of that. My chair arrived today (Jan 23rd), so 20 days since placing the order.

It was very well packaged in a Madison Seating branded box, but I decided to take photos just in case. Again, I was nervous after seeing all of the negative reviews. Once I opened it up, the Aeron v2 chair was in two parts; the back and the base. It came supplied with an allen key in a small bag attached to the chair, and the back attached easily with 4 bolts.

Again, being skeptical of the purchase I checked a few things to make sure the chair was genuine. If you run your fingers behind the back rest (at the top), you will feel dots which signify the size. I ordered a size B, and indeed there were two dots I could feel. The base (that you sit on) also has B imprinted underneath. Also at the back of the back-rest is the Herman Miller logo. The older Aeron's seem to have 'Herman Miller' where mine just has the H logo, but I checked this online and this also appears to be genuine.

To satisfy my curiosity I took apart the boxed unit that is located under the seat, where the tension knob comes from. It simply un-clips, and I wanted to see the mechanism inside to see if it was full of dust or dirt. Mine looks brand new.

Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones, but I am very happy with my chair. It cost $699, saving a considerable amount compared to a new one. It looks, smells, and feels brand new. The arm rests show absolutely no signs of wear, and there is no damage at all. Time will tell if this lasts, but being a Herman Miller I have been told that this will be a chair for life.

As for Madison Seating, perhaps the lawsuit and past issues have taught them some valuable lessons. All I'd say is read their terms and conditions, and know what to expect with their 'open box' products, which is what mine is. Don't expect to have it for 3 weeks, and if it arrives earlier then you won't be disappointed. Their communication with me was fast, so I can't really complain. Unfortunately it is human nature to complain and get angry when something doesn't go our way, which is why I think people leave more negative reviews than good ones.

My experience with them was good, and let's hope they continue this with all of their future customers. If there was one thing they could do better, then I'd say that's have faster shipping times. Also, if they offered free returns (no $50 re-stock fee) with their 30 day no hassle guarantee, then this will probably entice more people to buy from them.

Fantastic customer service

"I bough a Steel Case Leap V2 chair from Madison seating. The seat height adjustment was not working on the chair and they decided to send me a replacement chair. Otherwise the chair was in brand new condition. They told me to not to return the chair as it is a big hassle to pack the broken chair and ship it back to them. I had a fantastic experience in communicating with them."

Extreme amount of patience required

"I can't imagine a scenario in which I again do business with Madison Seating. Some of the people I talk with seem responsive, but the stock emails from customer service with bogus reasons for the delay are beyond annoying. Still in the process of trying to get them to fulfill my order. But they have serious problems with tracking and shipping. They didn't realize they had only shipped two or our ten chairs until I alerted them. And refuse to send a replacement part for one of the chairs they did ship with a faulty part until we receive the additional eight mythical chairs. The cost savings advertised has come at the expense of tremendous staff time to manage the process."
