"The good:
1. convenient
2. I passed (so, I must have been prepared)
3. seems pretty thorough

The bad:
1. the videos were a disappointment
2. some material needs updating

Overall, however, all was successful and it all fit with my busy schedule. Not having to go to a structured class really made it worth it. I suppose, though, if I hadn't passed I might have thought differently. I'd definitely recommend this to folks who are disciplined in their studying and/or have previous boating experience as I could see how this could seem overwhelming for folks who are totally "green" to the concepts.

I gave it five stars because I think the rating system is out of scale. Three stars should be "satisfied" maybe representing "nominal". Then I would have given it four stars. After updating the books and videos...clearly a 5-star product!"

"I purchased the Mariner's learning system to get my OUPV captain's license back in 2012.
The books were focused & thorough.
It's not an easy task; the studying for it was arduous, then there were the requirements of the Coast guard for the back ground checks, physicals, etc.
In the end it becomes a great achievement that will fill you with pride, along with earning you a new field for making a living.
Mariner's Learning system made it as smooth as possible for me, so I'm now working on my towing assistance endorsement.
