"Purchased an Xbox 360 from them with a broken IR port. When I called to set up a return, I was told that opened items, even defective ones, could not be returned and that I needed to call Xbox support. Of course, Xbox support would replace my Xbox with a refurbished one - but who wants a refurb when I just bought a new one?! Unbelievable! Who has ever heard of a store that won't take back a defective item??? Needless to say, I'll never purchase anything from them again, at any price."
"MicrosoftStore.com = Worst Shopping Experience ever!
If you are planning to buy from them you better pray not to have any problem with your item since their customer support is non existent.
I am a computer programmer and back in 2002 switched to Mac environment. I now had the urge to try the Windows PC tablet environment since it offered more than the iPad.
Big mistake! Mainly because of the poor Microsoft approach for dealing with orders and customers.
Summery of my review (full experience below):
- Item was shipped a week later even though I paid for expedited shipping.
- The EXOPC tablet died after 3 weeks only.
- MicrosoftStore.com stopped carrying the product and could not provide me an exchange NOR refund.
- Their return policy does not apply for opened computers (!!)
Again - they will not return your money if you take it out of the box(!!). What kind of a policy is that??
- EXOPC - looks like a nice device but you better buy a brand name. Mine stopped working after 3 weeks only(!).
- Microsoft Store Customer Service is poor, phone call audio quality is poor (like their reps are in India or China) and out of 5 reps I talked to, 3 spoke broken and very slow English.
Here's my story:
I purchased a Tablet PC (ExoPC Slate 64Gb 11.6") from the MicrosoftStore.com website on November 28,2011. I paid extra shipping to get it 2nd day air via UPS. 5 days later, when the item did not arrive yet, I called them and it took them 20 minutes to find my order. Then the lady said it is NOW being processed, as if they totally forgot about it. Regarding the extra shipping, she said it will be refunded to me since they lost my order. Needless to say I never received the refund for the expedited shipping.
The tablet arrived about 10 days later and despite the delay I was happy with it at the beginning.
However, 3 days ago, after using the ExoPC tablet for only 3 weeks, the device suddenly stopped working while trying to connect a USB Flash Drive. It automatically shut off and would not turn on again ever since then even though I tried every trick in the book, including contacting the manufacturer for support. I am very handy with computers and know how to recognize a severe hardware problem.
I contacted MicrosoftStore.com support and I talked to a rep for about an hour. Her English was really poor and her knowledge with computers was even worse. When finally got her to start the exchange process the call was disconnected. NOBODY called me back.
I waited 48 hours and still - nobody contacted me, even though the first thing they ask is your call-back number.
Meanwhile, I got a disturbing email from the manufacturer that they do not carry this product anymore and that they believe Microsoft is out of stock as well. Microsoft support did not inform me about that. I looked at MicrosoftStore.com and indeed the item did not exist.
Called back today and the agent confirmed that they don't have it in stock anymore but they can offer me a refund.
I said I do not want a refund I want an exact same item - only one that works. By now, I already purchased ~$150 worth of accessories for this tablet such as keyboard case, stylus pen and screen cover. If Microsoft was doing a clearance sale they should have mention that. Not to mention all the documents that I lost and the inconvenience of dealing with it.
They transferred me to a supervisor - call was disconnected. NOBODY called me back.
Called again - got transferred to a supervisor - call was disconnected. NOBODY called me back.
Called for the 5th time - got transferred to a supervisor again (with super long waiting time) - this time it went through, I explained my situation, the supervisor said he will check what he can do and then the call got disconnected. NOBODY called me back again!
I called again (like my time doesn't worth anything) - waited another 30 minutes on the line, talked to a supervisor only to be told that I need to call a their Signature Support now because they are the only ones who can help me get a refund.
Now they changed their version and started saying that I probably can not return the item since it was opened. Apparently their store policy is that computers can not be returned once purchased, only exchanged. I re-explained that all I wanted from the first place is to get a new tablet but it was like talking to yourself. If you can't exchange the item then you need provide a refund.
I have now spent more than 3 hours on the phone with them, lost all my documents and spent way too much money on a device that crashed after 3 weeks. Their store policy is fishy - some agents will happily give you a refund and some will say they can't since you used the product.
What kind of a store does not give you refund for a computer once you open it? Apple does, Best Buy does, Fry's, Target, Walmart and every other company I've worked with. Especially if you don't have a replacement!
I own 2 Mac Pro, 1 iMac, 1 Macbook Pro, 1 Dell Laptop (with viruses) and 1 not-functioning ExoPC Tablet. I don't want to sound like an apple freak since I'm not (own an Android phone) but all my Macs are working perfectly 4+ years and both of my PCs are making problems.
My advice - save the headache and spend the extra $200 to get a Mac or buy from a store that respects itself and offer you refund for your purchase as well as good customer service."
"I ordered a Kinect through the store for $129.99 on 11/3/11. The price dropped to $99.99 on Black Friday, 11/25/11 and again on 12/5/11. The company refused to credit the difference to my card. I would have to return the original and buy another. It's not worth the effort or expense to mail the original back."
"I ordered an Acer Aspire TimelineX AS1830T-68U118 netbook and Xbox 360 on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. The price on the Acer was marked down to $499 from $699, and the Xbox console was included for free with PC purchase as part of a promo for students.
The order remained at "In Process" for several days, and they kept the $528.xx (after tax) hold on my credit card. I was thinking they may have shipped the package and didn't update the status, so I didn't pay much attention.
On the next Wednesday, September 7, I received an email telling me that my order was canceled. This was because of a supposed price mistake on the laptop.
Why did it take them an entire week to decide to cancel an order? This is downright unacceptable. If it was an actual price mistake, they should have canceled it within a day or two. During that time, I had no reason to believe that the order wouldn't go through. Had I known the order would be canceled (and had they freed the $528 auth hold on my card), I could have gone somewhere else to buy a laptop.
Microsoft Store is MS's attempt to replicate Apple's success in tech retailing. You would think that they would at least try to offer decent customer service when they're dealing with such a formidable competitor."
"I ordered a laptop from them in the middle of December. It has been almost a month now and I have yet to receive it. An email inquiry to them brought of a response that they are busy filling order for Kinekts and be patient!!
I can think of no other retailer that would charge my card and make their customer wait a month for delivery and act as if it is business as usual.
I will not be making any additional purchases from Microsoft."
"As a first time buyer at the microsoft store, my experience has been one of the worst. My friends and I placed an order for a windows 7 family upgrade pack. This order included a free cisco valet wireless hotspot and a dell inspiron mini 1018. All of my friends have received their products in full and I have yet to receive anything. After checking my status online and seeing no change, I decided to call. All the agents kept informing me that it would ship out soon and to give it a few more days since they were busy with KINECT orders. Days went by and status had not yet changed. More of my colleagues started receiving their shipments and I received nothing. Microsoft store then accused me of taking advantage of some sort of glitch in their system and went ahead and canceled my order. I asked for compensation for the inconvenience this caused me and they told me they dont compensate their customers. They had the nerve to tell me "Thank you for being a microsoft store customer, we appreciate your business". After seeing other reviews here about microsoft, I would advise everyone to stay away and not shop here. You've been warned!!!!"
"Microsoft store advertised this black Friday special deal on twitter $150 gift card for any computer purchase.
I bought the HP Notebook thinking about the promotion making it a good deal. I received my order confirmation email the same day.
The following day, Microsoft changed the promo saying that gift card is valid only for instore purchases. But I bought the laptop when the original promotion was active and I believe this makes me eligible for $150 promo as promised.
I have saved the promotions Microsoft advertised on twitter and I have documents to show as proof. "

"UPDATE-(I am updating my MS rating from VD to NSD):
after reporting to BBB MS promptly refunded my $150.
-------------------------------------------------
STAY AWAY!!! I purchased my computer because of promotion tweeted by MicrosoftStore on 1:49 PM Nov 25th (http://twitter.com/MicrosoftStore/status/7868603957252096)--they promised, and I quote "Purchase any PC by 11/28 + receive a $150 @microsoftstore gift card". I never received promised gift card and their customer service reps and manager refused to do anything, they acted very rude and they did not help at all.
BE WARNED!!! about Microsoft Store's marketing tricks, so you will not have to go through the same frustrating process I have to go through now DONT PURCHASE ANYTHING from those THIEFS --especially any holiday gifts with MicrosoftStore promotions--they got me on Black Friday, so I was not able to get other legitimate deals from other merchants--instead of enjoying my new laptop I am loosing my time and energy fighting with crooks from MicrosoftStore.
I notified BBB and my credit card company about this 'bait and switch' scam by Microsoft. Again, STAY AWAY from those crooks! You have been warned!!!
"
"Liars and cheats. Use bait and switch techniques. Won't admit when they're wrong.
I sound bias, but listen to this:
() Microsoft Store Twitter post at 12am saying, "Purchase any PC by 11/28 + receive a $150 @microsoftstore gift card (excludes netbooks). What's on your list?"
() I see this, get excited, buy a notebook from the Microsoft Store at 1am.
() Microsoft Store Twitter post at 8am saying, "Update: The $150 @microsoftstore gift card when purchasing any PC by 11/28 (excluding netbooks) is available in store only."
() No gift card arrives in the mail.
() Two weeks later (to give them the opportunity), write to customer support explaining and asking for gift card.
() Response from Microsoft Store: "The $150 gift card advertised on Twitter was exclusive to purchases at our retail locations; not the online store. As you are aware, this was updated on Twitter shortly after the initial post. As such, you will not be receiving a gift card for your online purchase. I apologize for the inconvenience."
Now if you know anything about contract law, you know this is a crock. An ad or sale can be retracted/revised at any time. HOWEVER, any person that has acted on an ad (i.e., completing a purchase) BEFORE the revision/retraction is contractually entitled to the original offer. This is what is known as offer-acceptance-consideration.
Obviously, any person placing the order AFTER the revised Twitter post would be ineligible to receive the gift card. However, all people that placed their orders during the original 8 hour period are entitled to receive those gift cards, assuming they relied on the original Twitter post in making their purchase. Legally, not knowing of the original deal would result in no contractual obligation.
So there you have it. I've already filed a BBB complaint. I would recommend you not do business with the Microsoft Store, because there are other, better companies out there that will treat you with respect and honesty."
"I got this great deal on a Lenovo Ideapad U450p on Microsoft Store which I ordered on 16th Mar 2010.
This "NEW" laptop is supposed to come with a 1 year warranty. I checked the warranty status on Lenovo.com and it showed that it was valid only until 15th October 2010!!! Thats only 6 months!!!
Now it will cost me $69 to purchase extended warranty to get protection for some more time. A very disappointing experience, I feel scammed. I will not be buying anything else from this store in future.
I have shared images of the Receipt and the Warranty Staus: http://www.myphotos.yahoo.com/s/20t9n92op095w975fqlv"
"Thankfully Microsoft is now selling download versions of their software from their website!
Quick downloads and easy install with their download software installer."
"I was unable to even place an order to the Microsoft store!
It would not take my credit card info. Even when I switched from Amex to Mastercard. Also, they did not allow middle initial for the billing info. Get with the times, it's not 1999."
"I give this online store a big fat ZERO!They place an Xbox game on sale and then have no product to ship. Back order, horrible customer service and then I never was able to give it to my son for Christmas. Didn't arrive until New Years after 3 calls and many emails. A very uncaring and unprofessional store."
"FYI Microsoft store charged tax on the shipping!"
