"Do not do business with this company. I ordered as a donation to Heart of the Catskills animal shelter,a non profit that only helps stray dogs and cats....our pets !!!!... three plants which we were all excited to beautify the entryway to the shelter. It was supposedly a 1/2 price sale. I ordered by phone to be certain they had the plants and would be delivered which I was assured of. They took my money the same day, May 22,2014. The Caraganas arrived relatively promptly, however they were twigs, which I paid $60.00 each plus shipping....we planted them but were very disappointed in them. The dwarf weeping cherry was supposed to be shipped in 5-7 days, ( again I was assured of this when I placed the order by phone), it was never shipped and they are not returning my money though I have e-mailed and called and get similar excuses as others. ...so I spent a total of$245.00, for two twigs that would pass for weeds in Siberia, and it doesn't look like I will get my money back for the undelivered Cherry tree, and they didn't care that the animal shelter was hurt and cheated by their lack of conscience and integrity.....American businessman at their worst...NatureHills Nursery, there is a survey for me to fill out below, and they get ZERO stars"
"DO NOT ORDER FROM NATURE HILLS. May, 2014, I went online to find 6 mature, well established 1 gallon plants, an decided to order from Nature Hills. Their website makes a statement that " Nature Hills takes pride in delivering the highest quality plant with healthy roots". I should have done my research and read their reviews. The moment my order arrived, I open the box, and immediately went to plant them. The 6 plants I received were liberally taken out of a 3 inch pot, and put into a 1 gallon pot and shipped to me. So I paid shipping charges for 6 gallons of DIRT and paid extra for what I believed would be MATURE plants. I paid $28.95 each for 1 gallon plants, when other sites had 3 inch plants for $12.95. I was willing to pay more for a lager mature plant with more than 3 inches of roots. I took photos of the plants and you could tell the root ball was still in the shape of the 3" square container. When I called to express my disappointment and to have my order shipped back to them, Bonnie told me to just "find them a good home and to take pictures of my plants", so I emailed them to her, and I get a email from the Nursery Manager, Sabrina giving me this excuse, "After reviewing the photos provided by the customer, the grasses shipped and delivered at the size expected. The grasses do ship from our nursery which is an outdoor nursery and not from a greenhouse environment. As a result, this early in the spring season, the plant material will be in the early stages of greening up as we had a brutally cold winter followed by a cooler than normal spring. Some of our plant material is running a bit behind schedule as a result and this is certainly true of the All Gold grasses. However, the root structure is what I would find on a 1 gallon plant grown under similar circumstances and once planted, the grasses should quickly take root and start to develop both above and below ground."
I can't believe a Nursery Manager believes 3 inches of roots is an acceptable amount of roots for a 1 gallon plant. Nature Hills blamed the weather for the fact that someone put a 3 inch plant in a 1 gallon container and shipped them to me. Clearly the plants showed no sign that they had been allowed any growing time. Nature Hills did not handle my complaint and I will NEVER order from them again, Home Depot and Lowes will continue to get my business, at least I get 1 gallon of roots when I buy a 1 gallon plant from them. Nature Hills should want to stride to exceed above any and all other nurseries, and they did not. DO NOT ORDER FROM NATURE HILLS."
"My husband and I ordered a willow tree. We ordered from this site a 5'-6' tree. After 6 days of processing, the order finally shipped. When we got the 'tree' it was in a box with the 'roots' covered with mulch. I say 'tree' because this was more of a twig. Like literally this thing was no more than 4 1/2 feet tall, and roughly 3/8" in diameter. The twig could barley stay up straight on its own. I also say 'roots' because what you would expect the roots to be, cuz that by about 99%... There was 5" of 2 roots on the bottom of this thing... I was shocked that they could get away calling this a tree. Buyer beware!! "
"We recently ordered a Pieris Japonica shrub from a #2 sized container. It was to be shipped to us in 5 -7 business days from the order. After 11 business days we called to cancel the order, but instead they shipped it to us the next day. What we received was a 5 inch tall 3 inch wide plant - more like a few twigs. We were terribly disappointed after paying $39.99 for the shrub and $15.00 in shipping (for something that is about 1 ounce) we certainly expected far more than this. This really is a bad joke and when we contacted the nursery we were told we could have a credit to buy something next year (which we refused knowing we will never buy from them again). So, the woman said she would look into it and get back to us. We are not expecting much of a response. She did, however, act excited that the plant arrived alive, which was a rather strange reaction from someone who works at an online nursery. We will NEVER order from this company again and would suggest to anyone else to look at these reviews carefully before placing an order. "
"Update: 6/12/2014: Nebraska State's Attorney called to say they will be opening a case! Thank God that someone is willing to look at this company a little closer. The BBB is also involved, as well as logging complaints with the US Department of Justice/FBI and the Federal Trade Commission. Numbers do count. . .if you feel you have a legitimate claim against Nature Hills, please take the time to file an official complaint and post your "horror" stories on various sites that accept personal reviews, such as Yelp. It only takes a little time. I am listing all the links: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1 (Federal Trade Commission); http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx (US dept of justice); http://www.ago.ne.gov/complaint (states attorney office in Nebraska); and https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started (BBB of Nebraska). Review sites: http://davesgarden.com/; http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Nature_Hills_Nursery;
Type your complaint including all the details just once, and copy it for all your reviews/complaints.
AGAIN, this site doesn't offer ZERO stars as a rating, but in my books, that is what is deserved! And finally, if I should happen to ever get my $300 back, I would still give a ZERO rating!
The worst company ever as far as I am concerned! I have a complaint with BBB, Federal Trade Commission, Nebraska State's Attorney and will file more complaints wherever I can and I have plans to take them to court.
Ordered trees in early October for Fall delivery. Waited and waited, called to cancel in late November. Sales person talked me in to not cancelling. Waited a couple of weeks, still no trees, but we did get freezing temps and significant snowfall. Called the 2nd time to adamantly cancel order. All was good (or so I thought) until April 17th when package of trees arrived at doorstep. My husband thought I ordered something, and I thought he ordered something, so neither of us looked at the box until several days later. I called on the weekend and no one answered. I called the next Monday or Tuesday and told them I didn't want the trees - I had cancelled. They said I hadn't cancelled, that the girl said I decided not to cancel. What I didn't realize (and maybe should have), was that our charge card had been charged on the day I ordered the trees (oops, I guess I didn't see that charge). Because I didn't see they charged me, there was no reason to look for a credit when I cancelled in early December. After some not so nice exchanges between me and customer service over them shipping trees when I knew I had cancelled the order, I was told to refuse the shipment. I called FedEx and was told they would pick up package next day. It was gone the next day. I waited 2 weeks and still no refund. I called Nature Hills and was told they never received the return. After investigation, now FedEx says they don't show they picked up the package. ISSUES: 1) charging credit card in October for items that didn't arrive until April ??? (that they really should have never had shipped to me since I cancelled in early December) 2) not accepting my cancel as a cancel (someone needs to learn to listen and follow customer instructions 3) they are "borrowing" customer monies interest free while the customer may be paying interest on a credit card balance while the merchandise is months away from shipping 4) CSR suggested to BBB that I lied and trees are planted in my yard (really raised my blood pressure) 5) they are slow to respond - even their response to BBB was after the due date set by BBB 6) they seem to have an answer to all complaints by stating the customer "agreed" to their terms 7) there are enough similar on line complaints to see a pattern 8) Although I didn’t open the box, I had ordered 5 trees (I believe all were to be between 4 – 6 feet tall) which came in a box that was no more than 6” x 6” x maybe 6 ft long and you could tell there was plenty of room in the box because you could hear/feel the trees move freely about – indicates that the trees might be stick size in circumference. This company needs to be monitored. Their terms allow them to charge your credit card at time of order; but they don’t have to ship for months after the sale (shipping is by season), so by the time you receive items you may have lost all opportunity to dispute the charge with your credit card company. Dubious business practices. . .
Timelines are approximate as I don't recall the specific order date nor the specific dates of my calls but I am fairly accurate. I do know the ship date was April 15th. Oh, and by the way, they received 1 star because there wasn't a zero star available!"
"DO NOT BUY FROM THESE SCAMMERS. DEAD BRANCHES THEY CALL TREES, THEN WHEN YOU CANCEL THE ORDER NOT RECEIVED, THEY SHIP IT OUT IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS AN INTERNET SCAM COMPANY. BUSHES SAID 1 GALLON SIZE, THEY CAME THE SIZE OF A PINT CONTAINER. PLEASE READ ALL REVIEWS FROM PEOPLE THAT REALLY GOT SCREWED BY THEM. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPORTING THEM TO ALL BETTER BUSINESS BUREAUS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. The picture is that of a dwarf red buckeye supposedly tree. Dead on Arrival. "
"We purchased a Willow Oak tree from Nature Hills because I couldn't find one in my budget locally. The tree was dead on arrival, as its tap root had been cut. Their supposed "courtesy" guarantee is to allow me to purchase another tree at half price. I am filing a complaint with BBB and will never purchase from them again (or any other plants online, for that matter). I wish I had read their reviews first."
"Company sent the wrong tree in 2008. Replacement tree (s) had no roots. We complained, no response to our problems with their products.
We bought a dwarf red buckeye from Nature Hills in 2008. As the tree matured we started noticing white flowers on it so I looked it up online to see why our "red" buckeye had white flowers. I petty much surmised that they had sent the WRONG tree.
I called the company and a man named Brian asked for photos. I sent the photos and I waited & I waited. I had to call him back as no communication came after that. When I called I talked to Brian again and he said he had identified it as an OHIO BUCKEYE which would eventually be a tree 75' tall & equal in width. I told him that was ridiculous and that we had 4 years invested in this tree. Their response: send us a dwarf red buckeye at their expense. At our expense we had to have our Ohio Buckeye taken out and given to a good home that could house such a tree. Very stressful indeed!
And then here comes the first replacement dwarf red buckeye. It was a stick with one, just one, lateral hair root. My husband wrote and complained. No response. We planted the stick and like we knew it would do, it died before the end of summer. We called Nature Hills this year and told them we wanted a replacement for their ridiculous tree that they sent. They said, "Sure, NO problem but you'll have to pay half of the replacement costs." Had they not made the mistake in the first place by sending the wrong tree we wouldn't have had to have had another tree sent.
We finally decided to pay their rip-off price. That tree, too, arrived with 2 little buds at the top and ONE lateral root at the bottom. It was even smaller than the first replacement. My husband wrote, expressed our concerns and ALYSON's response to our email was that she was so glad that we had received our "healthy" tree and that roots should be developing shortly on it.
That tree died even quicker than the first. My husband fired off another email to ALYSON demanding our $38.42 refunded. She never responded to our demands.
While reading other reviews of Nature Hills I can plainly see that they are accustomed to sending our defective merchandise. I plan to put a review everywhere I can to express the shoddy treatment consumers receive at this company. I have also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau."
"NatureHills delivered 4 dead peach trees without the root system. They refused to replace it, never will order from them again!!"
"Recommended course of action for any potential customer of Nature Hills Nursery: Find a company with better than a B- BBB rating; one that has a reasonable and fair replacement guarantee and whose customer service can’t be defined as “thick as manure and about half as useful”.
I placed a late season order for seven roses totaling just over $300, including shipping. Unfortunately, they were dormant upon receipt with dried buds and branched falling off. I couldn’t judge if these were going to be healthy plants and of course two of the seven didn’t come back. I spoke w/ Bill in customer service who told me I could have two replacements at half price plus shipping. What a rip off. They wanted to charge me $50 to fix their inability to ship healthy plants. Oh, it is June and I was told they also wouldn’t ship until “mid-fall”.
I have to take some of the blame for the problem above. They have an awful replacement policy and I should have gone to one of the many competing operations that will make it right.
Based on the poor plants I received, their lousy customer service and self stacked service policies, each order is a potential disaster and I can’t advise anyone wait around for the train to jump the tracks."
